Gotta disagree, as much as I hate to.  I really think the idea that
Willow might be attracted to Buffy never crossed anyone's minds on the
regular staff at Mutant Enemy.  A lot of the Unconventional Ships got
some form of shout out on the shows, even if just a humorous exchange.
The Willow/Anya shippers got one in STSP, the Willow/Fred shippers
got Orpheus.  Even the Angel/Spike shippers got shout outs.  We, on
the other hand, got jack.  Nothing.  Nada.  The one time a new writer
(who only wrote that one episode) threw something in, it was removed
from the script, likely on the basis that it would be out of character
for Willow. 

The show insisted, time and again, that friends wouldn't think of each
other that way.  The one exception was the S3 Fluke with Willow and
Xander, and that had a years long established crush behind it.  So, I
can only conclude that any B/W subtext was accidental.
