Nearly forgot about this, but I was cleaning the inbox:

I don't go to quite so much depth, but I also noted the basic
progression in S1-4:

S1:  Buffy alone
S2:  Buffy and Angel, her canon love interest
S3:  Buffy between Angel and Faith, torn between male and female
versions of the dark lover.
S4.  Buffy loses the distractions and is together with Her Willow.

As for the S1 spine, that's relatively easy to explain:  they used a S2
cast pic of Willow/Angel/Buffy/Xander/Cordy.  Giles is a later addition
(note the wire-rim, not horn-rim, glasses, and more casual clothing) and
they could either drop him over Willow's shoulder or over Cordy's.  But
if you put him behind Willow, then you have to break the photo into
G/W/A and B/X/C, and I can understand why the art department didn't want
to split B/A on the packaging.  So, more fortuitous circumstance than
deliberate Wiffy, I'd say.

And my one note from S2 is more just Willow than B/W:  that disc 4,
which contains what are IMO two of the series' four best eps
("Innocence" and "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered") and which is the
one DVD disc I would save above all others if I could just rescue one,
has a picture of our Will on it.  (And looking very beautiful.)  What
else should represent the best of Buffy than her soulmate? :)

PSBTW, did you know that while in the S3 set Willow's disc (disc 1)
and Buffy's (disc 3) are not consecutive, they do end up next to each
other when the package is folded up and in the box?   

I'ts true!  The order for boxed discs is 3-1-2-5-6-4: then, as you open
it, you unfold 1-2 off of 3 [and 6-5 off of 4] and then unfold 1 off of
2 [and 6 off of 5] to get the 1-2-3-4-5-6 layout.

So remember, when you're not watching your S3 discs, Buffy and Willow
are actually snuggling <g>.  (As are Xander [disc 2] and Faith [disc 5],
per canon, and&yup&Spike [6] and Angel [4].  I knew those vampires
didn't **really** want Buffy!)  

&er, I guess I'd better take back the part about "I don't go to quite
so much depth", huh?

PPSS5?  S6?  Never heard of them, not buying them.
