Disclaimer:  I don't own any of the characters.  Just having some fun 
with them.
Summary:  What fun is that?

A/N: Some lines from "Bring in the Night". 
        Thoughts indicated in <>.
        Giles and the potentials arrive later than they do in the 
actual episode, just so I have time to play.

    Buffy and Willow reached Willow's room.  Buffy slowly unhooked 
her arm from around Willow.  Willow made her way to her bed, and sat 
on it.

    "Do you need anything?  Water, more blankets, anything?"  Buffy 
asked as she paced the floor, looking for something to do while not 
making eye contact with Willow.  Willow eyed her curiously.

    "No thanks Buffy."

    < Why does she look so nervous, a-and all jittery? >

    "Okay Will.  Are you sure?  Cause, you know& I ah& could get it 
for you if you wanted something."
Willow knew something was wrong.  She could see it in the way Buffy 
was acting.  Willow rolled onto her side so she was leaning on her 
elbow, looking at Buffy.

    "Buffy, what's wrong?"  Willow said as she scrunched brow and 
nose in confusion.

    All the while, Buffy's inner ramblings were driving her nuts.

    < This is crazy.  I can't even believe that I just let Willow do 
that spell.  After all that she's gone through?  It was stupid of me. 
It's just that we have no clue how to fight this thing.  It doesn't 
matter.  I won't let her get hurt.  Not again.  It won't happen.  It 
can't.  I love her too much.  Ahhhh!  I have to get out of this room, 
because all I want to do is hold her.  I just want to be able to touch 
her, to feel her body against mine, and to just stay like that. >

    Buffy looked up, wanting to see Willow's face.  Willow was now 
sitting on the edge of her bed looking worried.

    < When did she move?  She's got that cute little scrunched nose 
look on her face that she does when she's worried or confused.  She's 
saying something. >

    "Buffy!  Buffy?"  

    Buffy finally realized what was going on and broke out of her 
train of thought.  By this time Willow was already standing up with 
her hands on Buffy's shoulders.

    "Are you okay Buffy?"  Willow asked.

    "Huh?  Oh& yeah& I'm fine."

    <Resolve face?  Great!  Can't lie now.  Not like I could anyway. 
She'd know. >

    Willow's gaze was piercing.

    "Kinda&Sorta&?"  Buffy more so asked than said.

    "No."  Buffy stated with a long sigh, looking down at her feet.

    "Buffy?"  Willow lifted Buffy's chin to meet her eyes.  Resolve 
face dropped, now a look of concern rode her features.  Willow gently 
prodded Buffy to continue.

    "You can talk to me Buffy."

    < I can talk to her.  She's my best friend. >

    After a moment of silence.

    "I'm scared Will."  Buffy spoke quietly and lowered her eyes 
again.  Once again, Willow lifted Buffy's chin up, then moved her hand 
down to meet Buffy's shoulder.

    "Me too Buff, but we'll figure this out.  I know we can beat "The 
First".  I know we&"

    "Not of that Will."  Buffy interrupted.

    Willow looked confused again as her brow scrunched up.  She 
thought for a second.

    < What is she scared about then?  I don't get it. >

    Buffy saw Willow's confused expression and quickly answered the 
question running through Willow's head.

    "You."

    Willow's eyes shot open wide, and they then turned to a hurt 
expression.  Willow dropped her hands from Buffy's shoulders, looking 
anywhere but at Buffy.

    < She's afraid of me?  Oh goddess.  That's the last thing I ever 
wanted.  She can't be.  I can't do this.  I need her.  Oh goddess.  
Help me. >

    Willow's breathing picked up.  Buffy saw Willow's actions and 
knew what she was thinking.  Buffy acted quickly.  She grabbed both of 
Willow's hands with her own.

    "Willow, that's not what I meant."

    "Then what did you mean Buffy?"  Willow looked up at Buffy with 
tearstained eyes.

    "I'm scared for you, not of you."  Buffy offered gently.

    Willow looked relieved for a second, and then a little confused.

    "Will.  What happened downstairs, when you did that spell, that 
scared me.  I was so afraid of losing you&again.  I never want that to 
happen.  I shouldn't have let you do it.  I was desperate though.  We 
know nothing about this thing.  Then, that-that thing came out of your 
mouth, a-and you knocked me over, and I was so scared that I wouldn't 
be able to stop you."  

    A lone tear makes its descent down Buffy's cheek.  Willow is on 
the verge of tears herself.

    "I didn't know what to do.  I didn't want you to get hurt.  I 
couldn't take it if that happened Will.  I need you& I lov&"
