Re: ~Buffy*Wants*Willow~OT political rant

Hey, don't blame me, I voted for Kerry.

The problem is that the Dems managed to nominate the one candidate who could conceivably lose to Dubya.  That and Bush and Cheney managed to scare their base constituincy into submission.  When Cheney declared that there would likely be an attack on America if Kerry won, I was almost reminded of Grand Moff Tarkin from the original Star Wars; "Fear will keep the locals in line."  Face it, if Bush wasn't able to capitalize on 9/11 and keep the threat of terrorists hanging over our heads, he might not have made it to the primaries.  He should send Osama Bin Laden a nice thank-you card for making his second term possible.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."  George W. Bush says, "Be afraid, be very afraid."

No, I'm not satisfied with the current political landscape, either with the Republicans(who keep leaning further right), or the Democrats(who seem to have lost their spines).  And I for one would be perfectly happy to see Ann Coulter and Michael Moore stranded on the same deserted island with no hope of rescue.  But(excuse me while I mount my soapbox) pulling a Rip Van Winkle is not the answer!  It is time for us to prove that, just because we don't fall into lockstep with G. W. Bush, that doesn't mean that we hate America!  If I may take this moment to express some unfounded optimism, I predict that in 2006, the Dems will retake Congress and begin the shift of power toward the center.

The way I see it, the Conservatives are not the problem, nor are the Liberals.  Those terms are becoming increasingly meaningless.  The problem is those on the extreme edges.  They tend to shout the loudest.

Okay, rant over, except to say one thing.  "God Bless America" does not mean "Damn the rest of the world"!

Peace out,
Kirayoshi
