those are good points although by saying that the buffy off the last three seasons was Joss' alter ego does that mean Joss secretly wants to sleep with Spike?

 in many ways SMG is eerily reminiscent of her character, an expert martial artist, estranged from her father, devoted to her mother, straight A student, ice skating fanatic etc, etc. beyond a shadow of a doubt she's had a lot of influence over the development of the character

Well, the original script was supposedly very nice, but was royally
screwed with.

Of course, Kristy 's Buffy wouldn't have been the Buffy we knew and
loved, anyway, because a lot of the actress was written into the
character. For the first four seasons, Buffy WAS Sarah in a lot of
ways (Most recently demonstrated in that recent Esquire where she
discusses Thanksgiving). The last three seasons, of course, saw Joss
making the character a female version of himself (which means she
should have been even more in love with Willow than usual, but that's
beside the point), but still, this would have been a very different
character, and show, with someone else in the part. Even the darker
and more extreme things that happened to her were done because,
according to Joss, he knew that Sarah could go there, that there
wasn't any limit to where he could take Buffy, or the show.
