Re: OT: (A Rant) Drain Brameged Inc. Bites the Hand That Feeds It

I have to agree that what you said was a little over edge, and utterly harsh. I'm working on my degree in English Linguistics, and have one more semester left. Basically, I'm a syntactician, which means I work with grammer, and have been overly trained in the great writing styles and works from the beginning of the written word to now. So a person has a few grammer mistakes here and there...big deal. Sure, it drives me crazy but I don't let it drag me down too far. I focus more on the story itself...and they all aren't so terrible that I want to drive myself into a brick wall. No, I've read terrible fiction...trust me...I have read fiction that has made my 149 IQ drop down to a 23. The fiction I've read from some of the major players, and even some of the minor players...maybe they have grammer mistakes, maybe they don't write new stories often...that doesn't mean they're out of the game. I was reading fanfiction, trying to find a comfortable community for a while. Maybe...at least...8 months max. I found it here with the B/W shippers. I even swore up and down that I wouldn't write any fanfiction myself but I eventually signed up as members to these groups and sites, and had ideas outside of my own imagination and creative field. It's fun! It's not meant to be the most intellectual thing out there. That's why we're all here (or rather almost all). To find the fun. We found something that we enjoy, something that we have in common, and we gathered together with what we have. Things come up in life that disallow us to stay on constant target all the time, and we may just take a quick look at what's there. That doesn't mean we've all disappeared. You have to remember who and why we're all here. There are many different reasons. We all have our own. If one person causes another person to stop writing, then that is truly a sad day. This is my way of saying that I regret that fact that anybody would drive a person to a bad place in their creativity. I wholeheartedly apologize to you, Carol Clarke, that you were driven to that point, and (I don't think, at least) I wasn't even the cause! Taking away a person's want to share their creativity is like telling a fish that it can't swim anymore. You're trapping a person, which in turn takes away the fun. Sometimes things aren't meant to be serious. Even when I had to sit through a workshop with the 23 point IQ incident, I had nothing negative to say. I didn't tear her every word apart. No...constructive criticism is completely different than a person's personal opinion regarding a piece of work. You have to remember that a lot of people hated Van Gogh's work. Look where he is now. I'm not saying that we in the B/W are regular Van Goghs. More like...we all have our different opinions, passions, lifestyle choices, experiences, and ideas. Not everybody is going to mix. Hell...I've probably pissed tons of people off just from this simple reply. The point is that we are all different, and we join together because of something we love. That doesn't mean we all have to do something everyday. I'm not the most social of people, either. However, I still don't feel the need to write something everyday. If one person posts something, that doesn't mean that I'm going to reply to everything. Certain things appeal to me, others don't. That's how it is with everybody else. We all have our opinions...that doesn't mean that we feel that every single one needs to be heard. It's what's so great about free will...we get to decide when, and if we do or say something. Maybe I'm completely off base here...I just don't think harsh words and criticism is going to bring more people to the community, or for that matter, make them want to be active. Carol Clarke already stopped writing (which makes me sad...b/c I enjoyed your work)...don't drive more people away. Not everybody is Shakespeare.

Thanks!
-Rin (firerancher...whatever you want to call me)
