The only time it becomes even possible is post series.

Hmmm... I would agree that after 'Chosen' is the only time it makes practical sense for Buffy to become pregnant, assuming it was planned. Not sure I agree that, because she's the slayer, there is some mystical imperative or ethical reason (if I understand your point here) that makes it impossible. Not saying it would be a GOOD idea... but waving the "She's the Slayer" stick at an issue as an explanation is too simplistic for the Buffyverse, IMHO.

On the other hand...

Plus, slayers and having kids don't mix.
Where do we see that? It certainly isn't canon. Other than one slayer,we have no evidence one way or the other.

It's never directly stated, no. But it seems reasonable. After thinking about it, I've developed a theory that slayers are incapable of bearing children. I'm serious and it makes sense. I think that that they can have children before they're called, but not while active.

I've been leaning in that direction myself also... for all of the stated reasons about the chances a pregnant slayer would have to survive pregnancy are slim to none.

But we don't even come close to canonical evidence for such a thing. Sure, Niki Woods had a son. But we don't know anything about the time frame - was she a slayer or just a potential when it happened? No idea.

You'll remember that my question was aimed at fanfic WRITERS. Not at the Buffyverse PTB. I'm asking "Why Willow", not really "Why NOT Buffy". The answer seems to be "Willow makes a better mother" (With no real proof) and "Because making Buffy a mother isn't practical" (And I don't have anything invested in the arguments pro or con. I'm just curious.)

( Of course, in the world of Buffy/Faith fics the question would have been phrased as "Why Faith, and not Buffy" (Faith seems to be the slayer who predominately gets pregnant in B/F fics that I've seen).)

Also, it would make sense that the PTB would even prevent her from even having periods in the first place.

Well... the PTB didn't actually "create" the slayer... as we learn later in the series. They just make use of them. They actually seem to be fairly 'hand-off' - they toss out a prophecy to their "tools" on occasion and watch things happen. It makes more sense to assume that whatever magic transfers that "demon essence" to a potential slayer, making her an actual slayer, changes them instead of saying "The PTB did this, that, and the other"

(If nothing else - the Council probably used some kind of birth control on their slayers without the slayer being aware of it. )

Look at prinicpal wood, he was screwed up by it...
Huh? You mean the whole "revenge kick" he had going? Why does that makehim screwed up? Except for the conflict with Buffy of the fate ofSpike... he seemed a lot saner than some characters when it came tovampires.

No, but he did have to live with the trauma of losing his mother at a young age. That's the inexorable truth of ANY child of a slayer.

But that applies to ANYONE who loses a parent at that age. This isn't a slayer thing.

Plus, willow is just more nurturing and stuff, I think.
I guess I don't actually see her that way. Tara gives off that earth-mother vibe. Willow is more of the "seeker of knowledge andpower"

I think Alexis meant more nurturing than Buffy. And that point is arguable.

Yeah. I think that one is hard to measure. Trying to figure out which one has more of something we never really see... I think in Willow's case people mistake her shyness as "gentleness" which leads to "nurturing-ness". I think, in 7 seasons we can find more examples of Willow having empathy/sympathy for Buffy than we can of her "nurturing" Buffy.

But how someone acts to others and how they'd act to their own child are two different things.

If so we don't really have anything to hang an accusation of "Willow is nurturing" on. With Tara, in later seasons, we see how she is with Dawn,Buffy, and Willow. She does behave in a nurturing fashion. But you're saying we can use something like that as an example.

Plus, I think it's interesting to imagine Buffy's reaction to being the father.

Let's go one step further... I think a fic that uses the idea you give above that a slayer CAN'T have children (and isn't a Highlander crossover with Buffy as an immortal (Highlander style immortals can't have children - ever)) and applies it to Buffy/Willow (with Willow pregnant) would be even more interesting to read.

I've only seen one fic that even came close - some pre-slayer reason why Buffy couldn't have children- but it didn't really address that at all.

 Those are my thoughts...
Thanks for sharing them.

Well, some of these are my thoughts, the others are yours and Alexis's forwarded thoughts. So...these are our thoughts.

And more :-).
