Down Twisted part 28

here it is,as promised, the next chapter to my ode to the Buffyverse! All disclaimers and warnings are still in effect. Enjoy and, sorry, but 29 won't be up until sometime tomarrow night.

                  3 days later, mid afternoon

As Alex drove donwn Revello Drive, in Sunnydale, she couldn't help but wonder what in Hell she was doing over here.

Why is it, the voice that resided in her brain snottily asked, am I the one that has to talk to Joyce Summers ?!?!?!?!?!

No answer, of course, came forth and it was with a deep sigh that the dark womam pulled into the driveway. Alex remainded sitting in her vehicle, for a few minutes, trying to gather her thoughts together before exiting the car and walking up to the Summer's abode. The Southerner, rather prudently to her way of thinking, did square her shoulders before knocking, lightly, upon the front door.

From inside the house, an older blond was somewhat shocked to see whom was standing out there on her door step. The dark woman looked a little better than she had yesterday but Joyce could clearly see the sharp grooves that now ran along Alex Robert's finely, molded mouth. It was with a frown that the Slayer's Mom opened the door.

" Alexandra, is everything allright with Buffy and Willow?"

" Yes, ma'am, the girl's are quite hunky dory. That's not why I'm here. I think, Mrs. Summers, that it's high time we had ourselves a little talk. Gonna invite me in?"

It was in short order that Alex and Joyce where sitting down at the kitchen table. A, rather, uncomfortable silence sprang up between the two women. One was wondering how to begin, what was sure to be, a loaded conversation while the other was trying to figure out all the reasons Why it was Alex Roberts whom was sitting across from her and NOT her own daughter.

" I don't really know how to say this but I heard ya , you know?"

To say that Joyce was astounded by this turn in the conversation was little more than a massive understatment. The blond had no doubt, however, that Alex was telling her the stone, cold, truth.

" Allright, I believe you. I think, Alex, that you'ed better start calling me Joyce from now on."

The other woman's gray eyes where sparkling with amusement before the dark woman attempted to form a reply.

" If that's how you want it, I will. Sorry 'bout calling you by your last name, it's just a hold over reaction from my misbegotten youth. My Momma, you see, instilled within her young daughter the knowledge that she was Never to call one of her friend's parents by their given names. I've simply never forgotten the lesson that Mom tried to teach to me all those years ago."

Alex became silent as she watched the other woman process that information.

"Friends? Are you really simply friends with both Willow and my daughter?!?!? I have to tell you, Alex, that it seems like so much more than That to me."

Joyce Summers was calling herself the world's biggest fool for even having the balls to ask that question as she watched one of the most painful of exspressions cross over the dark woman's face. She didn't regret it, however, because she was infanitely curious about the realationship that had developed between Buffy, Willow and Alexandra Roberts.

Across the table, the Southerner cleenched her teeth as she attempted to form an answer that wouldn't send the other woman running to the police. While she could perfectly understand the blond's concerns she really had no idea how to begin explaining the whole situation to the patiently waiting woman.

" It was never my intention to become friendly with anyone here in Sunnydale. I came her to simply finish the job that began back home, nothing more or less. I've come to believe that I'm blessed that things turned out so differently. Willow and Buffy have been so much more than a God send for me, I can never hope to repay them for all the things they've willingly given to me in our time together."

There where seething, dark currents of pain in that little speech and Joyce began to fully realise that she had seriously underestimated the other woman.

" Please, Alex, help me to undrestand exactly what your trying to tell me. The girl's will only give me bits and peices to the story, Rupert even less than That!"

Alexandra Katherine Robert's lips twisted, harshly, as she became aware of how little this woman knew about the whole situation. On one hand she was honored that those people would keep the lot of her private information to themselves but, on the other, she couldn't help but damning them for putting her in this mostly uncomfortable predicament.

" Hell, Joyce, what exactly have they told you?"

In a short amount of time, Alex was informed about the bare basics of her and the girl's story. The shocking amount of gaps in that info caused the dark woman the shut her eyes as she gritted her teeth. After a moment and, with a long suffering sigh, Alex began to make her reply.

" Well, damn, this could take a while! Joyce, why don't you get yourself something to drink and, then, I'll tell you everything."

The Slayer's Mom found that to be a prudent course of action as she stood and, after walking over to the sink, began pouring herself a cup of steaming, hot, coffee. After sitting back down, the blond took a sip of her morning pick-me up before locking her gaze with the dark woman's.

" Allright, Alex, I'm ready for whatever you have to tell me."

Somehow, Joyce, the dark Southerner mockingly thought to herself, I don't think I believe you.

As Alex began retelling the details of her sordid youth, she couldn't help but wish she was anywhere but here. By the time she made it to where she'd come to Sunnydale, Joyce Summers was looking at her with equal parts compassion and no small wonder.

" I rented the house after Angel and Cordilia told me the skinny on what I needed to do to get around Sunnydale. In fact, I had just finished moving in when those girl's came knocking upon my door. Can you even begin to undrestand what it did to me to see the sheer and utter beauty that is Buffy and Willow to be standing there in the bright sunlight?!?! It floored me, Joyce, I have absoultely no trouble adimitting that to you. I did the proper thing, of course, and invited them inside. We...I guess you could say, got aquainted rather quickly. I was cool with That, however, it stunned me to realise that I was actually begining to care about both those girls. That, I'm sorry to say, is Not a natural reaction for me. Imagene, if you can, my total shock to realise that the feeling was mutal for both Will and Buffy too! I like to think of myself as a somewhat intelligent person so I did try and not let either girl into my heart. That, as you've come to see, never happened. They got in before I had any real chance to stop them but, I must tell you, that neither Buffy nor Willow realised it then. They've been so bloody good for me, I can only pray that I've brought something worthwhile to their lives too. I must confess, Joyce, that not only am I an intensely visual person, I also happen to possess and inate amount of natural curiousity to boot. I dunno, at this late stage in life, it That's a good or bad thing. I had just assumed that the girl's where a couple, it flabergasted me to realise that wasn't yet the case! Puzzled me too because I had no trouble seeing that something was bubbling up between them. I actually pained me, Joyce Summers, to fully undrestand exactly what was keeping them apart."

" Oh my God," said the flustered blond, " are you saying, Alex, that Bufffy and Willow are a couple?"

This, quite naturally to Alexandra Roberts, caused the younger woman to erupt in laughter. Her high amount of merriment was very evident to the older blond, she simply awaited for the moment Alex would regain control of her emotions.

" Absofreakingloutely, YES, Willow and Buffy are fully together! Christ Almighty, Joyce, they are so, damn, Good for one another that it even brings a tear to my eyes!! You aren't really gonna sit there and try to tell me that you haven't noticed the extent of emotion that flows between Will and your daughter, are you?!?!? Come on, Joyce Summers, I know your smarter than That."

The blond haired woman could only sit and stare at her guest in utterly, stunned amazement. While, on some level, she'd always suspected that it was attraction that was simmering between the 2 girls, she simply never given much thought that Buffy and Willow would have the guts to give into those desires!

Alex, meanwhile, didn't quite like what she was imagening going on iside the other woman's mind. Wanting only to forstall any bad happenings, the dark woman leaned forward to stare straight into Joyce's surprised gaze.

" It's perfectly allright to be shocked, Joyce, by what you've just been told. Hell, you can even be amazed, if ya like. That's your God given right, I don't want you to think I'm here to take it away from you. It's just, Buffy has shared with me your less than welcoming reaction to her being the Slayer. I'll grant you that you where rathere angry at that discovery because, really, what mother wouldn't be? In fact, Joyce, you may even be pissed off that no one has told you any of This before now. I'm begging you, however, please don't be angry at the girl's for finally giving into their emotions. If you where to do That, I promise ya, that only bad things can happen. The way I see it, Joyce, is that you've got two, distinct, choices before you. You can either accept the love that flows between Buffy and Willow and be happy they've finally realised how right they are for one another or you can let your emotions get the best of you and go off half cocked to rant and rave over them. Make no mistake, lady, you'll end up losing both girls if you take the second option. Take it from one whom knows, ya'll deserve so much better than That! I have no right to ask you this but I going to anyway. Please, I beg of you, consider my warnings before you go and confront everyone with this knowledge."

Out of breath and feeling that there was no more to this conversation, Alex Roberts stood and made ready to leave.

" I regret that I leaving you with such pressing matters to go over on what, I'm sure, was suppoused to be a realaxing afternoon. Good day, Joyce, I'm truly sorry if I've been kinda hard on you."

As the apologetic woman walked into the harsh sunlight, Joyce Summers could only sit there as Alex's choices began replaying in her brain. The blond woman was Not stupid and she fully acknowldged that the Southerner had made some fine points. It wasn't even that she was againist a same sex realationship, no, it was more that she was afraid of all the crap that both girls would face in the outside world. Therefore, it was with a deeply troubled sigh that Joyce got up to refill her coffee cup.

I've got some serious thinking to do, she hapahazardly thought to herself, lets hope I make the proper choice This time around!
