RE: OT WOOT! I'm alive!

Rainne,

Glad everything's okay (except for the heat, but that's par for the
course). Just remember, only 3 months more of hurricane season to go! ;-)

Hey, everyone!!!

Thanks to all who sent such kind messags and all of your prayers/thoughts/karma were GREATLY appreciated. The storm skirted me at the 11th-and-a-half hour, going in juuuuuust to the east of me. this is a good thing because (for those who don't know), the strongest winds of a hurricane are in its northeastern quadrant. My area never actually saw the 115-120mph winds, although we did still take a bit of a beating.
For me personally and my family: all of our hoems are fine, and I am
actually the only one who sustained damage! My brother's house,
which flooded 18.5" last time, got NOTHING, and neither did my
mom's; I, however, lost part of my privacy fence. And I am also the only
one in my family still without power. But thank [insert deity here] for
generators! I'm currently running the fridg, the computer, and one little
fan... those last two are the only things keeping me sane right now.
YAY for generators! :)
Cell service is still up, thank God... that was one of the problems we
had with Ivan; all the towers got knocked over. Not this time, huzzah.
And also, I don't think it'll be long before I have power; the red light
around the corner was flashing when I came home from dinner and the
Shell station is up and running. So all is pretty much well in
Rainne-land.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled Buffyness.

Buffy pulled the crank on the generator and it roared to life. A few moments later, from inside, there was a whoop. "Cable's running!" Willow shouted as she began turning her beloved computer back on.
Buffy walked inside and grinned at Giles, who was dropping to the floor
in front of a fan. "Thank God, Buffy. I can't imagine surviving through
this for another moment."
"It is pretty hot," BUffy agreed, wiping sweat off her forehead. "Remind
me why we came here?"
"I believe you and your compatriots were blithering about sun and fun
and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico," Giles replied with some asperity, "and
waving a tourism brochure."
Dawn came in through the front door a moment later, followed by the
redhead from next door whom none of them had met yet. "Guys," she
interrupted the conversation, "this is Jenn. She lives next door. She
doesn't have a generator and she was wondering if she could put
some bottled water in our fridge."
"Certainly," Giles replied, waving a hand toward the kitchen. "Feel free."

"Thanks," the girl replied. Then she paused, loking around at them "Um... Wow... y'all all look so familiar. Are y'all from here?"
"Nope," Buffy replied cheerfully. "California."

"Oh," the girl said, then shrugged and moved toward the kitchen. "I'm sure I'll think of it later. Probably at like, two a.m."

"Let's begin at the beginning, shall we?" [Giles] said [to Dawn]. "What has Buffy done that is so out of the ordinary?"
"Well, when she came down to give the big, daily motivational, 'we're all
going to die' speech, she didn't. She said stuff that really was
motivating about all the stuff we're fighting for, like puppies and apple
pie and a world with no Celine Dion music in it, which, I could totally get
behind, but it's not like her. Then she told us all we have to take
opportunities...like the one she said she took last night to ask you on a
date which she said she's wanted to do for years. Creepy, huh?"
