Chapter 1
It's the first day of school and I'm feeling quite giddy over the
prospect of seeing what my first homework assignment will be. Buffy
told me I was "offbeat" but I'd rather be offbeat than some snooty
rich person, although I'm not really rich so it'd be hard for me to be
that person. I walk up the steps, cherishing the sight of the school
building looming overhead. I enter through the doors, oblivious to the
staring faces, and whispered comments. I approach my locker, still
smiling&and freeze.
"Dyke," I say, reading the inscription on my locker out loud. I look
around, scanning over the other students, but either they're busy
talking with somebody or they aren't looking at me. I feel a cold
dread now, and don't like the feeling one bit. I'm used to torment,
but it was usually of the verbal variety. At least then, I could place
a face with the insult. I whirl around and dash towards the library. I
shove the door open to see Buffy seated with Xander beside her and
Giles pacing. "Giles," I say, flustered, and gesturing with my arms
back towards the doors. Giles merely nods his head as I walk forward
and slump into a chair. Buffy reaches a hand across, taking one of
mine, while my other hand is busy checking my pulse to make sure I
didn't wind up in hell or something.
"I'm sorry, Will. It seems that the ultra hip contingent of Sunnydale
High has nothing better to do," Xander quips, trying to ease the
feeling of gloom, or whatever it was that filled the library. I didn't
think it was gloom but I couldn't come up with a better word at the
moment. I was still too transfixed on that one word.
"They had a picture of two girls&uh&in a sixty nine position&you
know," Buffy says, stammering a bit. I look at her, sad for her, and
not quite sure what a sixty-nine is. Whatever it is, it can't be good
though.
"Sixty nine? Wouldn't it be hard for a girl to position herself in a
six and the other in a nine? I mean, that would require serious
flexibility and-" I say, confusion evident, before Buffy slides the
picture across to me. My eyes widen, and I nearly tilt my chair to the
floor with me landing too. "Oh&" I reply, quickly pushing the picture
back, and blushing. Xander regards me with a mixture of amusement and
concern.
"You didn't know what a sixty nine was, Will?" he asks, as Buffy
shoots him a glare. I look at him, feeling defensive.
"I don't have access to porn. Well, I do but&If my mother&you know,
if she had&If Joyce finds out that I had such content on my computer,
I'd be in so much trouble! Then Joyce would ask Buffy, and Buffy would
get in trouble too. I'd feel sad because Buffy got in trouble over me
and she didn't even do anything," I say, calming myself down at the
end of my tangent. Buffy gives me an amused smile, while Xander gives
me a nod, but the twinkling in his eyes say it all. I pout at him.
"God&I swear, the next person wearing black sandals is getting an
earful," Cordelia mutters, walking up to the table. Buffy's on her
feet and grabbing Cordelia by the front of her blouse before I can
even let out a word. Cordelia gives a little gasp, as I'm on my feet,
and helping Giles pull Buffy away. Xander stands between the girls.
Buffy's clearly irate and I now understand why.
"Did you do this? Did you put your flunkies up to it?" Buffy asks,
biting each word. Cordelia frowns. I look back and forth between them,
not sure if I should glare at Cordelia or try and calm Buffy down.
"No. I swear, Buffy. It doesn't surprise me that this has happened
though. What? Did you think everybody in school would be welcoming the
fact that you two are lesbians and together? I hate to break it to
you, but you both have target circles," Cordelia replies, sounding a
little ticked, but still weary of enraging Buffy further. I force
Buffy back onto the table and sit next to her, wrapping my arms around
her neck should she charge again.
"I must agree with Cordelia. What happened is to be expected, now
that your relationship has come out into the open. While we have been
quite accepting and approving, most of the school likely sees it as
otherwise. You two should be cautious for the rest of the day. I'll
talk to Snyder and see if we can come up with something," Giles says.
Buffy sighs, and glances at me. I can see she's still angry, but knows
that Giles is right. I kiss her on the cheek and let loose my grasp.
"I have a class now, but I'll meet you here for lunch, okay?" I ask,
receiving a nod. I smile, trying to give Buffy the courage that I'm
feeling. Okay, not really feeling courage, more like great big balls
of fear and dread. I exit the library, ignoring Cordelia. She may not
have been involved in the acts of that morning but she had still
tormented Xander and I for years, for pleasure. Bitch.

I let out a grunt, and shoot an annoyed glance at the person who
rocked me with their shoulder. I frown, and continue on my path to the
library. I feel a hand clutch my shoulder, and reach into my pocket to
grab my bottle of holy water, before realizing that vampires can't
appear in daylight. I turn around to meet the sneering gaze of
Principal Snyder.
"Principal Snyder, hi," I say, clearly worried about his sudden
appearance, and how I fit into the picture. He just gives me a grim
smile, sending the hairs on my neck up.
"Ms. Rosenberg, I hear that you have been up to charades again.
Namely, consorting with Ms. Summers in sexual manners that are
explicitly frowned upon in this institution," he says, his voice
stern. My eyes widen.
"C-consorting? We are together b-but no public displays of affection
here. We just keep it to hand holding," I say, my brows furrowing, as
I quickly realize that this is a war I'm set up to lose. I wonder if
Buffy has met with him yet. I hope not.
"Holding hands? My students tell me that you and Ms. Summers have
been seen making out quite passionately within the library. They've
said that you have been French kissing and groping each other in a
manner only seen with apes," he growls, as I flinch, and take a couple
steps back. I realize a small crowd's forming, and blush.
"A-apes? W-we don't&no groping," I stammer, praying that Buffy would
show up, now would be a really, really great time. I glance over my
shoulder, but nobody has come to my rescue.
"Normally, I'd have you both expelled. Unfortunately, and lucky for
you, the school board seems to think that we should start becoming
more accepting of non-heterosexual people. If I catch either of you,
making even the slightest mistake, so much as drinking water for too
long at the water fountain, you'll be expelled," Snyder whispers, now
closing in on my face. I feel a hand shove me back, and I'm now gazing
up at Giles. His back rather, but I see a brief flash of fear pass on
Snyder's face as he backs away. Giles turns, and ushers me into the
library. It's empty.
"Are you alright?" Giles asks, concern on his face. He's kneeling,
eye level with me and I just throw my arms around him, hugging him as
tightly as possible. I manage to hold back the tears, barely though.
"He was horrible, Giles. H-he said he'd expel Buffy and I if he
caught us doing anything he deems wrong. I've never even been told to
be quiet in a class! He can't expel me can he?" I ask, leaning back,
and suddenly worried that Snyder could do such a thing.
"The school board could overrule him, but they have entrusted Snyder
to do whatever's necessary. He does have the power to expel you both,
and presumably, could do such a thing if push came to shove. I talked
with him earlier, and he was quite adamant that you two, and I as a
matter of fact, were troublemakers, and that if he can, he'll find a
way to get rid of us," Giles says. I close my eyes and bury my head in
my hands. It's that time when Buffy chooses to open the doors and
enter the library.
"What's going on?" she asks, instantly in "Slay" mode whenever
something bad comes up. I lift my head and look at her.
"Snyder wants to expel us," I say, as Buffy shrugs her shoulders, not
aware how dire the situation is.
"What else is new?" she asks, as I frown, then glare at her. Buffy
knows that when I glare, I always mean business.
"Buffy, he's going to expel us. N-not now, but the split second we do
anything wrong. W-why, somebody could even tell him something, and he
could expel us over that. This is serious, Buffy. This isn't Snyder
just talking and making idle threats. He threatened to fire Giles," I
whisper, suddenly seeing what could happen. I stare at Giles, who is
wiping his glasses. Buffy's busy clenching and unclenching her fists.
"I wish I could just&urgghh," Buffy cries out in frustration. I tense
a little; afraid she'll act on what she said.
"Buffy," I warn her, as she looks at me, and nods her head.
"Has anything else happened?" asks Buffy, suddenly worried that I may
have been physically harmed. I shudder at the thought, but quickly
smile at Buffy, knowing she'd take my shudder the wrong way. I like
having Buffy protect me. Makes me a little giddy.
"I'm okay. There were a few snide comments in some classes, but
nothing else&except for the Snyder incident," I reply. Buffy glances
at her watch, as I frown, knowing what's up when she glances at me.
"Sorry, baby. I have to split, since my lunch break's over. Damn&I
never ate. I'll grab something when I hit class," she says, before
dashing off. I frown at Giles, not happy at the thought of Buffy
starving her poor stomach. I bet it's begging for food and it won't
receive any nourishment for hours. By then&get a grip Willow. She'll
be fine.
"I gotta go too, homework, and stuff," I say, leaving Giles alone in
the library. Giles sighs, resting his chin on the palm of his hand.
~~~BTVS~~~
"You&must be the anointed one," drawls a voice, full of confidence. A
figure strolls into view, cigarette stuck between his lips, and clad
in a black duster over a red button down shirt, with black leather
pants. The child looks up, cautious.
"Who are you?" he asks, as the figure grins, and proceeds to deliver
a mock bow, earning growls from the flunkies around the anointed one.
"Name's Spike. Drusilla and I are taking over this operation. I heard
you wanted to revive The Master. What a noble plan&raise a vampire who
already got dusted by the Slayer. That'll definitely work," Spike
says, letting loose with a giggle. A vampire charges him, and receives
a hard right to the face. Spike promptly snaps its neck, and lifts his
face back to the anointed one.
"What do you want?" the anointed one asks, clearly intrigued now by
Spike.
"What I want is the Slayer dead. What I'd really relish though&"
Spike says, abruptly pulling a stake out, and driving it through the
heart of the anointed one. The anointed one looks up at him in
surprise, before dissolving to dust. Spike turns to see the door opening.
"Drusilla," Spike says, a smile spreading on his face. Dru's clad in
a flowering white gown, and dances into the room. Drusilla smiles and
stares over the faces of the four remaining vampires who all look
startled. She lifts a hand, and holds her hand out, palm up.
"Come on," she drawls, curling her fingers into her palm. She grins
delighted as the four move closer. They seem in a trance and Drusilla
smiles, snapping a neck of one vampire, and moving to the next one who
seems unfazed. She proceeds to dust the other three vampires.
"That felt wonderful, Spike. Miss Edith claps her hands in happiness
and the moon drinks us," Drusilla murmurs while leaning against Spike.
"The moon will be drinking more soon enough, love. We'll bathe in the
Slayer's blood," says Spike, kissing Drusilla passionately.
~~~BTVS~~~
I stretch lazily on the bed, smoothing my cotton top down over my
stomach. I rest my head on the headboard, and just watch Buffy wiping
her hair off. I smile, taking in the figure hidden beneath the white
robe. Buffy catches me staring and tosses the towel away, seductively
walking towards the bed, and climbing atop. My eyes widen a bit, and
my breathing is growing heavier. Buffy smiles, getting closer, but
pauses at the sight of my worried expression. I'm still thinking back
to Snyder's threats of expulsion.
"What are you thinking?" Buffy asks, clearly able to read my emotions
already. I guess true love allows for lovers to read each other like a
book. Okay, that made a nasty image in my head. I quickly shake it off.
"I was thinking about Snyder. I know you aren't that concerned, but I
am. My biggest offense was getting an A- on a paper. Now, I can be
expelled for drinking water too long at the water fountain. It's like
I'll be walking on glass, with all these elements around me, trying to
knock me over," I say, wrapping my arms around my legs. Buffy sighs,
and settles next to me.
"It worries me too, Will. I got kicked out of Hemery, and I really
don't want my mother having to go through that again. Snyder's a bug.
He can talk all he wants, but I have faith in the school board. Look,
if something happens, we can always go to the Mayor, okay? My mother
saw him at an art gallery, and told me that he was quite partial to
children," Buffy says. I nod my head, not feeling that hopeful. Buffy
leans forward, kissing me briefly on the forehead. I close my eyes,
and open them, gazing into hers.
"Thanks. It's just&with the locker incident, I'm feeling a little
vulnerable," I say, eyes glancing down to my feet. I stare at the red
nail polish that Buffy chose, saying they matched my hair.
"I'll always protect you, baby. Whoever comes after you, has to deal
with me first," Buffy says, kissing me passionately on the lips. We
break apart, a grin on my face. I snuggle against her, drifting to
sleep. I feel Buffy kiss my forehead again, before drifting to dreamscape.
Chapter 2
I have my head bowed beneath the raining water coming from the
showerhead of well&the shower. I glance down at my wristwatch and see
that it's 6:08 AM. Buffy has told me many times that I'm strange for
wearing a watch in the shower. I always reply that it's my way of
ensuring that I'm never late. I don't think Buffy ever buys it. I
groan, letting the water wash over me, ridding me of my past. I hear
the glass door slide open and let out a shriek, covering my breasts
with one hand and my lower region with my other. I back up a couple
steps, before realizing who it is.
"Buffy!" I screech, blushing at my predicament. Buffy just smirks,
equally nude. I feel my blush growing hotter as she steps in and
closes the door.
"You never wanted to shower with me?" Buffy asks, teasing me. I
glare, still covering. Luckily, her back is to me, but now I'm feeling
cold. I glance down, admiring her ass, before quickly bringing my eyes
back up.
"N-no touching though, okay? I'm just getting used to admiring you,"
I reply, suddenly feeling a devilish thought form in my head. I blush
again, even more than before. I lower my arms, and quietly open the
door. I can almost see Buffy frown as the cold rushes in, sending both
of our bodies into goose bump stage.
"Hey, what-" Buffy says, before letting out a cry of surprise. I let
out a giggle, my hand leaving a brief and fading imprint on Buffy's
right butt cheek. I scramble out the door, not even caring if Joyce
comes out. Okay, I do care&a lot. That makes me run harder. I dash
into our room, and slam the door shut. I lock the door, leaving Buffy
growling on the other side in frustration. I grin to myself, still
blushing slightly at my naughty action. I look around, and begin
getting dressed. I throw on a pair of black jeans and a black top. I
want to surprise Buffy. Maybe I overdid it though&all the better. I
open the door, to see Buffy standing there, a towel covering her
stomach and breasts. She glares at me and steps in.
"Nice look," she says, still peeved at my action. I frown, then sigh.
I step forward and wrap my arms around Buffy's waist, resting my chin
on her shoulder.
"I'm sorry, okay?" I ask, knowing that I'm playing right into Buffy's
hands. She lets out a long sigh, and pretends to be in deep thought. I
nuzzle her neck, kissing it over and over as I keep my hands on her
stomach.
"You never told me you were so naughty," Buffy replies, moaning, and
exposing more of her neck.
"I'm full of surprises," I say, now skipping out the door. I don't
know what's coming over me, but it feels good. I think Buffy has a
large role in this though. It's nice to not be so&same old. I can see
how Buffy has so much fun, just being spontaneous, and inventive. "I'm
grabbing breakfast," I say, knowing that I've once again annoyed my
lover. I'll make it up later. I think a foot massage will work, I
hope. That's my big plan&and I don't have any backup yet.
~~~BTVS~~~
Buffy seems to have accepted what happened earlier, since we enter
school holding hands. I stare at her, now worried that Snyder could
catch us. Buffy just squeezes my hand tighter. I wince in pain, as
Buffy gives me an apologetic smile, and loosens her hold. We're making
our way down the hallway, and I can feel all the looks from the other
students. I blush, and lower my head a bit. Buffy just ignores them
though. I wish I had that confidence in myself. We reach the library
and walk in. Giles, Xander, and Jenny are already there, waiting for us.
"I've caught wind that two vampires may have recently arrived in
Sunnydale," Giles says. I frown, not happy at this news. Xander gives
me a look, apparently surprised at my outfit. I just give him a broad
smile, feeling pleased that I can elicit that reaction.
"Buffy&what did you do to Willow?" Xander asks, again gazing over my
look. Buffy just smirks and leans forward, resting her chin on the
palms of her hands.
"I showed her a naughtier side," Buffy says, as I blush, flashing
back to my actions earlier. Xander just gawks at her, then at me.
"You have a naughty side?" Xander asks me, as I nod my head, and bat
my eyelashes at him.
"Yup. You're not going to find out how naughty though," I say, a
slight warning tone. Xander just smiles and I can tell that he'll
already have images. Boys. Always thinking with that thing of theirs.
Giles clears his throat and looks at us, very annoyed. I lower my
eyes. "Sorry," I say.
"We're with you, Giles. Something about vampires, two of them, and
them arriving yeah?" Buffy asks, clearly on the ball. Giles nods his
head, still annoyed at us interrupting his important news.
"I believe they are both related to Angel. Rumors are that he, Angel
that is, sired one, if not both of them," Giles explains. I look
around, confused. Xander and Buffy return my look of confusion. Jenny
seems to be aware of what's going on though.
"Sire?" I ask, wanting further explanation. Giles nods his head,
blushing slightly.
"He made them both vampires. When a vampire turns a human into a
vampire, the creator is called the sire of the human," Giles explains.
I nod my head in understanding as Buffy looks at him, wanting to know
how to end this quickly.
"Any idea on their haunts? Their names even?" Buffy asks. Giles
shakes his head, as Buffy glares at him, then returns her gaze to mine.
"Sorry. They are said to have arrived with-in the last day or two.
I'll try to find out more information of course. You three should get
to class," Giles says. I stand up, linking my arm with Buffy's as we
head out. Xander is standing to my right, still amazed at my attire. I
glance at him, and roll my eyes. Xander just gives me a goofy grin as
we exit the library.
~~~BTVS~~~
I close my locker door and feel a presence behind me. I smile to
myself, expecting Buffy when I turn around. Instead, I come face to
face with Oz. Not the wizard, although that'd be kind of cool, but
Daniel Osbourne. He has blue hair tipped with black and it's spiked.
He's quickly invading my privacy, and I frown at him.
"Hey," he says, acting casual. I glance around, hoping to see Buffy,
and worried that Snyder might see what's going on. Neither is on my
radar though.
"Hi," I reply, confused, and feeling defensive. I don't like anybody
getting this close to me. He can practically sniff me. I compose
myself, trying to feel strong, like Buffy.
"What's going on?" he asks, now leaning against the lockers. I press
my back against the locker now. I'm really not enjoying this. I never
knew a guy could scare me this much. He hasn't even done anything;
it's all proximity though.
"I was just going to see Buffy," I reply, trying to edge around him,
but he copies my movements. He grins at the mention of Buffy, a weird
grin. It reminds me of Angel, when he went evil.
"Right. Never figured you for a lesbian," Oz says, and I frown at
him. I fold my arms across my chest.
"What's it to you?" I snap back, making him flinch. Didn't mean to
get that reaction. On second thought, maybe I did. He looks at me
apologetically.
"Sorry if I offended you. You just didn't strike me that way," Oz
answers, trying to calm me down. I just roll my eyes at him and walk
past, heading towards the library. I think I might've hurt him a
little. He did seem sincere. Then again, so had everybody in this
school until that one comment appeared on the door of my locker. A man
steps in front of me, and I see it's Snyder. Uh-oh.
"Ms. Rosenberg. My office, now," he snaps, looking rather ticked.
That can't be good. I can feel the looks from my peers, and catch
Xander and Cordelia talking. They both glance at me, Xander worried,
and Cordelia at least intrigued. It was more than I expected from her.
"What's going on?" I ask, trying to fish any information out of
Principal Snyder. He just glares at me, and continues leading me to
his office. He pushes the door open and I walk in. Buffy turns her
head to look at me. I'm surprised at first, but now I'm worried. We're
both here and nobody else. That can't be a good thing. Snyder sits
down as I take a seat next to Buffy. Instinct says for me to grab
Buffy's hand but I resist, for fear of accelerating our plight.
"I've been waiting for this day for a long while. Ever since I've
arrived at Sunnydale High, you, Ms. Summers, have been a troublemaker.
You've caused trouble almost daily, even if I haven't caught you every
time. Ms. Rosenberg, you may have a sterling attendance record and
high grades, but your association with Ms. Summers tells me that you
must be a troublemaker as well. Any last words?" Snyder says,
practically gloating at this. I glare back and catch Buffy also
glaring. I'm shocked, but damnit, I'm angry too. Who's he to judge us?
Okay&so we get into stuff but we save the world. Stupid Snyder.
"W-we'll take it up with the Mayor," I say, feeling too flustered to
come up with something more threatening. Even to my ears, it doesn't
sound like a good threat. Snyder flinches though, and I find that
interesting. Buffy does too.
"That's right. We'll go up to the Mayor and believe me, I have no
qualms about doing it," Buffy growls. I glance at her, afraid that
she'll do something physically. She's sitting back, arms crossed. I
cross my arms too, keeping my glare. I'm mirroring Buffy, and I'll do
my best to scare Snyder into re-thinking. Xander has told me I need to
work on my intimidation. In my defense I haven't had much work at it
though. The phone rings, as Snyder picks it up, annoyed.
"What?" he snaps, instantly growing pale at whoever the answering
voice is, and looking a little scared. Secretly, I wish it were Giles,
but I don't think it is. Snyder nods his head a couple times and hangs
the phone up. Now he looks angry, not happy. I think angry is good.
It's better than him being happy right? "That was the Mayor. He
informed me that I was to keep you both in school, at the expense of
my job. I'll be keeping my eye on you and your friends anyway&Slayer,"
comments Snyder, now smiling. I grow pale, realizing what Snyder just
said. I catch Buffy growing tense. She leans forward.
"How did you know that?" she asks, and I can see that she's scared.
How did Snyder know that? Has he overhead us talking? Did he see Buffy
staking a vampire? Even so, he couldn't know the term Slayer right?
"I know many things, Ms. Summers. I know that this town is also on a
Hellmouth. You think I would take this job and be so naïve as to my
surroundings?" asks Snyder, rhetorically. Buffy frowns and glances at
me. Neither of us like knowing that Snyder knows what Sunnydale is and
what Buffy is. We get up and quickly walk out. Giles has to know about
it immediately. We march towards the library. Buffy strides in,
clearly angry at this occurrence.
"Giles!" I scream. Giles comes dashing out of the library, probably
expecting an attack. Buffy just stares at me quizzically as I look at
her with a sheepish smile. "I thought it'd get his attention quicker,"
I reply, earning an understanding nod. Giles glares at me upon seeing
that we aren't in danger. I flash my brightest smile, hoping it'll
resolve his anger. It works a little, but he's still scowling.
"Snyder knows that I'm the Slayer. I don't know how he knows, but he
does. The Mayor also told Snyder over the phone that he is to refrain
from expelling Willow and I, something that he was literally seconds
away from," Buffy says. Giles gives us a concerned look and frowns.
"Are you two okay? Wait, Snyder knows?" Giles asks. I nod my head,
giving him a smile to help ease him.
"He does. We don't know how much he knows, but he also knows that
Sunnydale is on a Hellmouth. I don't think it's too far fetched to say
that he knows you're my Watcher as well," Buffy replies, sitting down
at the table. I take a seat next to her, as Giles remains standing.
"Damn," Giles mutters. He's unhappy with this. I'm more worried about
what this means for Buffy. Now I wonder if Joyce talked to the Mayor.
It was really coincidental that he called Snyder right then. This day
is getting really strange.
"Willow?" Buffy asks, as I look up at her, and smile.
"I'm here. I was just thinking how strange this day's been. Did Joyce
talk to the Mayor?" I ask Buffy, as she looks back at me. I think it's
starting to dawn on her now. She shakes her head slowly, appearing to
be deep in thought.
"She never said anything. She was home all night, and we never caught
her on the phone," Buffy says, frowning now. Giles looks confused, and
I suppress a giggle at his expression.
"I'm thinking it's awfully coincidental that the Mayor called Snyder
right at that time. He had to have some idea what Snyder was up to,
especially if he mentioned Buffy and I by name," I say, trying to
catch Giles up on the situation. Giles nods his head, but I think he
still feels a little out of the loop. Poor Giles.
"We're going to head home. I want to know if my mother talked with
the Mayor or not. Maybe get some closure on that aspect," Buffy says,
standing up. I follow her action. Giles nods his head in understanding
as we quickly make our way out of the library and down the hall. Buffy
turns to me, slightly concerned.
"Something's up. Snyder not only knows who I am, but he found it out
from somebody else. I don't think the Mayor was making that call as a
coincidental move," Buffy says. I nod my head, trying to think if
Joyce was ever on the phone last night.
"You&uh&we could be overreacting too. I mean, it was awfully
coincidental but that doesn't mean that it has to be something
deeper," I reply. Buffy lets out a weary sigh, and I smile at her.
"We'll talk with my mother first. If she didn't call the Mayor, than
I get major I told you so time. You still owe me for this morning
too," Buffy adds, a sly smile spreading. I smile back, trying to match
her expression, but not sure if I'm coming anywhere close.
"Don't worry. A foot massage will be in the works," I state, earning
a pleased grin. Buffy hugs me tightly, as I blush at the looks from
the students milling about. I so need to stop blushing. I need to be
more assertive, more confident in myself. I'm Willow Rosenberg. I have
a female girlfriend lover. Yeah, it needs some work.
Chapter 3
"I just heard that the Slayer has ended up on the wrong side of the
tracks," Spike sing songs, glancing down at Drusilla who is splayed
out on a velvet quilt spread over a king sized bed. Drusilla looks up
at him, a grin tugging at her lips.
"The cards showed she would dance with that which she first met.
Silly Angel, thought he was in the deck," Drusilla purrs. She leans
back, eyeing Spike. "The moon sang to me, Spike. Do you know what it
told me?" she asks. Spike smiles, having no idea what Drusilla is
rambling about.
"You tell me, love," Spike replies. Drusilla grins and sits up.
"The moon told me that the Slayer would be meeting somebody. Very
powerful he is. He knows her secret, but she doesn't know his,"
Drusilla says. She stands up off the bed and walks up to Spike.
"Will this powerful man threaten us?" Spike asks, clearly unhappy
that somebody else will access the Slayer before him.
"He knows who we are. He'll get to know us, but he won't be a spoil
sport to our party," Drusilla replies. Spike nods his head, unsure if
he should be happy or not with Drusilla's response.
"That's good to know, I guess. I want the Slayer dead. The quicker,
the better, and I won't stand around waiting either," Spike says, now
snarling. He's already killed two Slayers. This one shouldn't pose a
problem, however he promised Drusilla that it would be an in and out
job. He didn't like being on a Hellmouth. Too many demons here, they
could always threaten to do his job for him. He likes the notoriety
that comes with being the big bad in a place, and that won't happen
with all these bottom feeders around him.
"Don't worry, my Spike. All will be settled," Drusilla says, resting
her forehead against Spike's.
"That's right, baby. One Slayer settled into the ground, while we
will be settled in London," Spike whispers, kissing Drusilla on the
forehead. "Now, let's get something to eat," he says. Drusilla looks
up at him, a gleam in her eye.

"I thought I could entrust him with that information, Allen. I mean,
we're talking about information that is fairly heavy duty, and would
send most people running into the night screaming. That'd be quite a
fitting action in this town wouldn't it? Anyways, I'm disappointed.
You know why? I have the Slayer, right here in Sunnydale. Can you
imagine what it would mean for business if she got killed? It would
skyrocket this place," says Mayor Wilkins III. He grins, pleased at
the idea. He clasps both hands together and rests them on his desk.
"Well, do you want to terminate him?" Allen asks, not sure what the
Mayor wants to hear. Wilkins shakes his head.
"Of course not, Allen. After the Flutie debacle, I'm glad we finally
have a man who takes pride in stern discipline. I just wish he would
enforce it on other students. I want the Slayer in Sunnydale. I know,
it could jeopardize what I have planned for next year, but I'm willing
to take that risk. She draws in the demon clientele after all,"
Wilkins says, now rising to his feet. "I met her mother, really a
charming woman. I want to meet the Slayer though, face to face. See if
you can arrange something with-in the next week. Try not to cancel any
PR work though. Thanks, Allen," Wilkins says, patting Allen on the
back, and walking out of the room. Allen lets out a sigh, and exits
the room, heading to his office.

Buffy and I stood side by side in front of Joyce. We were standing in
the living room. I glance at Buffy, feeling very worried. Buffy gives
me a small smile, trying to ease her butterflies as well as mine. It
has no effect on me at all. Buffy turns her gaze back to Joyce.
"Uh&Mom, did you happen to call the Mayor last night? Or, maybe he
called you?" Buffy asks. I can see Joyce frowning already. That's not
a good sign to see this early in a talk like this.
"No. What happened?" Joyce asks. Uh-oh. I glance at Buffy who's
staring back. What do we tell her? Anything? Nothing? I'm not used to
parents addressing me in such a straightforward manner.
"We met with Principal Snyder today. He was going to expel us, until
the Mayor called him, and told him to not expel us. He knew our names,
too, like he was expecting this to happen," I say, slowly. Joyce sits
down, though her lips are pursed tightly. I've been here enough to
know it's her angry face. I step closer to Buffy, out of fear. Joyce
looks up at us.
"I believe I'll have a talk with the Mayor. Thank him for his
hospitality. Has anything else been going on at school?" Joyce asks.
Damn. Buffy steps forward and fields this one. I look at her, quite
grateful for her taking this one. I'm not sure I could've said it.
"We've had a couple incidents with other students. Nothing physical,
to us, at least&but uh, it's nothing for you to be concerned about,"
Buffy says, trying to convey that Joyce shouldn't get involved. I'm
torn as I want her to get involved but I know that Buffy and I need to
stand up to this ourselves.
"I don't like the thought of either of you having to deal with that.
I know what it's like to be in high school, however I can't say that I
understand what you two are going through. I'll keep my distance and
let you two handle it, but if it gets physical, I'm stepping in. Are
we clear?" Joyce asks. We both nod our heads. I'm glad that Joyce is
entrusting us to handle ourselves rather than be all John Wayne and
save the day.
"Thanks. We'll be upstairs working on homework," Buffy says, smiling
at Joyce. They hug as I hang back, still feeling a bit like an
outsider. Joyce embraces me, and I smile over her shoulder at Buffy.
Buffy looks pleased to see her mother taking a motherly role to me. We
release our hug as Buffy grabs my hand and almost drags me upstairs.
She closes the door, and grins. It's like the Cheshire cat, only not
as creepy. That cat gave me nightmares for months. Of course, I had to
watch it over at Xander's house. I still don't know why my parents
wouldn't let me watch it. I'll ask Buffy some time about that, maybe
she knows.
"Come on&foot massage time. Vixen," Buffy says, grinning. I pretend
to be shocked, but the smile on my face completely betrays my minds
intentions. Oh well. I lead Buffy to the bed, and flex my hands.
~~~BTVS~~~
I had just finished taking a shower and enter our room. I close the
door quietly and take in Buffy's form on the bed. She's sitting with
her arms wrapped around her knees. I frown and walk closer, staying
standing at the edge of the bed as Buffy looks up at me.
"We've been together for a while, right, Will?" Buffy asks, as I nod
my head. I'm not sure where she's going with this, and instantly flash
to Buffy rejecting me or telling me the relationship's over. I feel my
chest tighten at the thought. "I just keep thinking back to the shower
and what you did. I don't want you to feel self conscious in front of
me. I don't want you to be ashamed of anything," Buffy says, and I can
see her eyes taking me in. I take a seat on the bed, at her feet.
"For years, I was laughed at or mocked for everything from my hair to
my clothes. It's not you, Buffy. It will never be your fault. It's
just&it's hard to overcome that, you know? I'm so used to people
making snide comments about how I look, and I look at you, and you're
the complete opposite. You shower me with praise and make me feel good
about the way I look. It's still hard for me to be open with you, that
way. I've never been with somebody in that way before, and to be
honest, it'll take a while for me to get comfortable. I don't want to
make you wait, or run you off," I say, lowering my eyes to the bed.
Buffy cups my cheek and kisses me passionately on the lips.
"I'll always be here for you. I never knew that it had gotten that
bad. I just figured it was teasing. If I had known how insecure
Cordelia made you&" Buffy says, not finishing the sentence. I know
what she's thinking though, a slight clause in the Slayer book for
killing a human. A part of me would cheer her on, but I know
Cordelia's not worth it.
"When you've been conditioned to see yourself as a loser, it makes it
tough to believe people when they give compliments. I don't have the
confidence you do, Buffy. I can't just stand up to people, and dish
back what they say to me. I know you want it, and I want too, but I'm
just not ready. It's not you however, it's me, and I know it's stupid
but I need time," I whisper, feeling like a dolt for making Buffy
wait. I'm a horrible girlfriend. A good girlfriend would never make
her lover wait. I feel tears falling as Buffy hugs me tight, just
cradling me.
"It's alright, Willow. I'll wait a hundred years if it takes you that
long," Buffy says, making me cry even harder. I can't make Buffy wait
a hundred years. She has needs and that would make me so selfish.
Buffy seems to sense that she said the wrong thing. "Oh, sorry, bad,
bad wording. Just, take your time, okay? I know you feel bad for
making me wait, but I can wait. I want the time to be special. I don't
want sex just to say we had sex and you didn't make me wait. I want it
to be a loving experience, and as corny as this is, a perfect night. I
also want you to be ready. To be honest, I'm not sure I'm that ready
myself," Buffy says as I lift my eyes to hers. I can see the sincerity
in her eyes, her smile. I sniffle as Buffy wipes my tears away.
"Really?" I ask, not believing her last comment. Buffy just smiles
and kisses me on the forehead.
"Really. I love you, Willow. Don't feel bad for anything you do.
Whatever you do, I'll support your decision," Buffy says.
"Thanks, Buffy," I whisper, nuzzling against her neck as I feel
myself falling asleep.
Chapter 4
It had been a week since Snyder spoke to us in his office. He still
had his eye trained on all of us, but hadn't done anything. Buffy was
tempted to see how far she could test him, but I forcefully talked her
out of it. Mostly, it consisted of me frowning, and lamenting how I'd
be all alone without her. I also tossed in Joyce's reaction and that
pretty much ended it. We were still getting the remarks and comments,
but it had begun to die down. I smile up at Buffy, who's busy tracing
a strand of my hair that's hanging loosely over my face. I turn my
attention to Giles, who's emerging from his office. He told us that he
had some important information regarding the two vampires who arrived.
Xander's sitting across from us, eating nachos, and seeming quite
content with life. Cordelia was sitting next to Xander. I still am a
bit on edge with her, and frankly, dislike her a lot. I have very
valid reasoning though. She's helped in the past, so I put up with her.
"So, what's the up, Giles?" Buffy asks, wanting to get the news out
in the open. I glance up, wanting Giles to hurry up already.
"I've found out who the new vampires are. Both are quite deadly.
William the Bloody, known lately as Spike, is the more vicious one of
the two. He earned his nickname by torturing his victims with railroad
spikes. It's believed that he followed in Angel's footsteps as far as
his affinity for torture and carnage. The other vampire, Drusilla,
there isn't much to go on. Not much was written during the century
that Drusilla was presumably turned, although it's believed that Angel
was the one who turned her. I've heard rumors that she then turned
Spike later on, but I've also heard that Angel did the turning so I
can't say anything with true verification. Angel ran their clan, also
included Darla, whom was dusted last year," Giles says, now taking his
glasses, and wiping them. I frown at Buffy, but she just has her
Slayer mask on. That look where she's intense, and completely focused
on the subject.
"Why are they here?" Buffy asks. I feel a cold feeling of dread.
"They could be here for any number of reasons," Giles says.
"So, they could be here for the scenery, calm lifestyle, and
beaches?" Xander quips. Giles glares at him, as I shoot a frown.
Xander shrugs his shoulders and resumes eating his nachos.
"I highly doubt that would be the case. Erm, they could be here to
avenge Angel's death. They could be here to kill you, uh, take over
Sunnydale, or it could just be a brief stop before they head to
wherever their destination is," Giles says. I sigh and rest my chin on
the palms of my hand.
"I think I'll go with choices A through C," I say, feeling glum. I
don't like the fact that I'll be juggling all this stuff. I have my
relationship with Buffy; the issues with the fellow students, not to
mention now Spike and Drusilla get thrown in. We also have the Mayor
to figure out too.
"Excuse me?" asks a voice from behind Giles. I peer around him,
trying to figure out who's intruding our space. It's a girl, wearing
black leather pants, and a tight white top, hidden by a black leather
jacket. She has dark brown hair spilling over her shoulders. She looks
like she stepped out of a magazine for bikers. Giles turns, surprised,
and I give a slight smile. I think he forgets that this is a library
too. Probably since we are usually using it, and nobody else comes in
that often.
"May I help you?" Giles asks, walking forward. The girl glances at
us. She looks intriguing, like one of those people that has depth, or
something.
"I'm new. I heard this was the place to be," the girl says, flicking
her eyes to me again.
"P-place to be?" Giles stammers, not sure what's going on. We're all
confused too. Buffy looks a little guarded, no surprise there. I've
been telling her that she has to trust more, but Buffy is still slowly
getting to that point.
"Yeah. I need some books. Kind of difficult passing classes without
any books," the girl says, a grin on her face. Giles blushes and nods
his head. He makes a motion for the girl to follow him up the steps.
"What books do you need? May I ask your name, if you don't mind,"
Giles says. The girl nods her head.
"I need U.S. History and the Norton Anthology. My name's Faith,"
Faith says. They disappear behind the stacks. Buffy catches my eye.
Xander looks like he's ogling her. Cordelia looks slightly annoyed.
Maybe she thinks Faith's a new target. God, I hate Cordelia.
"What?" I ask, frowning. Buffy doesn't look that happy with me, and I
have no idea why.
"She was checking you out," Buffy replies. I blush a little, then
shake my head.
"Uh-uh. She was just looking, that's all. She's new, Buffy. She saw
we were all together, and was trying to figure out what our deal was.
It's nothing to be alarmed about. Are you jealous?" I ask, a genuine
smirk of surprise playing on my face. Buffy's eyes widen.
"No, not jealous at all. She was just busy staring at my girlfriend,
who wasn't exactly breaking eye contact," Buffy says with a pout. I
smile and wrap an arm around her shoulder.
"I was just observing her. It's not often that we meet new students,
Buffy. Besides, you are mine forever, and I'll be yours for all
eternity," I say, kissing her on the lips. We quickly break upon
hearing Giles and Faith coming down the stairs. I glance at Faith
who's looking at us, one eyebrow arched. Damn, she caught us. I blush,
and lower my head.
"Thanks," Faith says to Giles, taking the books, and leaving the
library. Giles turns to us. I'm still blushing, and am starting to
worry it'll be like that the whole day.
"Anybody want to go Bronzing tonight?" Xander asks, a smile on his
face. I glance at Buffy, who's eyeing me. I can tell she wants to go,
badly. I grin at her.
"I think we're both in for a good time," I reply, earning a wider
grin from Xander. Giles just rolls his eyes and head back into the
office. I stand up, ready to go home, and take a relaxing shower. I
don't plan to have Buffy surprising me anymore, so I've taken to
locking the door now. I also figure that this way, Joyce won't
surprise me either. That would be really, really bad.
"Let's go, baby. I hear a good back massage is in the plans," Buffy
says, a sly smile starting to spread. I smirk at her.
"A back massage does sound nice. I could definitely use one. Thanks,
Buffy," I tease, receiving a pout. I giggle and walk away, letting
Buffy follow me out the door.
~~~BTVS~~~
I whirl around, and glance at Buffy. She already spent a good two
hours getting dressed. Not that I minded though, since I saw some nice
things other than outfits. What Buffy's wearing is very nice though.
Now I'm focused on what I have to wear. I'm trying to find something
sexy but not too sexy, for fear of drawing attention. I tend to
babble, then have to flee when I have everybody looking at me. It's
not a good sight.
"I appreciate you going sexy on me, Willow. I'm very appreciative
actually, but we are going to the Bronze. It's not the Prom yet,"
Buffy says, teasing me. I blush, and turn back to the mirror. I'm
wearing black leather pants to match Buffy. They feel really tight,
but not uncomfortable, just tight. The shirt I'm wearing is long
sleeved, mostly black, with the ends tinged in a teal or turquoise
color. I think it looks good. Buffy told me she liked the shirt a few
weeks ago, so this is me paying homage to that remark. I turn back to her.
"I want this to be a special night for you, Buffy. It's our
five-month anniversary. Ideally, I'd have something better than the
Bronze planned, but this is our night," I reply. Buffy smiles, and
embraces me in a tight hug.
"Let's get a move on. Xander said he'd meet us there," Buffy says,
grinning. I smile back, and follow her out the door.
~~~BTVS~~~
I open the door, tipping the guy, and allowing Buffy to walk in
first. I grin behind her, excited to see her reaction. She turns,
mouth-hanging open.
"Oh, Will," Buffy says. I think she's in shock, which is good enough
for me. I had one table designated for us. It has a white tablecloth
over it, with a vase of roses in the middle. The Bronze owner was
surprisingly accommodating. I had this planned since last month, but
didn't want Buffy to know. Both chairs are patterned with studs and
there is a glass of red wine. I know we're underage but I felt it
added to the atmosphere. I walk Buffy to her chair, and barely contain
my laughter when Xander walks up. He's wearing a tuxedo and pulls the
chair back, letting Buffy sit down. Xander does the same for me, and
walks off.
"You like?" I ask, as Buffy is just beaming now. I can see she's on
the verge of tears, but she's holding back for me.
"It's amazing. How'd you get Xander into a tuxedo?" Buffy asks,
glancing at the band playing. They're a local band but they play soft
jazz. The band was another requested fixture for tonight.
"I told him what I had planned. He was happy to help," I reply,
smiling. Buffy smiles back, looking like she's fallen even more head
over heels for me, if that's possible. Maybe it's not possible. Since
one can't&well they could fall head over heels twice, but you can only
fall in love once, right?
"Pleasure to see you, my ladies," Xander says. I think Xander's
secretly enjoying this. He'd never admit that to either of us, but he
seems to be having fun. He knows it's important to me and I'm glad
he's my best friend. I grab a glass as Xander fills one quarter of it
with red wine. Buffy widens her eyes. I just give her my best smile. I
wait for Xander to fill her glass, which he does. He smartly takes the
wine away at that point. I raise my glass.
"Here's my toast. A toast to you, Buffy Anne Summers, love of my
life. I've learned to be more confident in myself with you around.
You've taught me that there are people out there who can love with all
their heart. I can't imagine being with anybody but you. You not only
protect me, but you make me feel important, and a valuable part of
society. You trust me more than I'll ever know, and you believe in me,
even when things don't look good. You have faith in what I can
accomplish in life, and I'll return that faith times ten. You told me
once to seize the day, carpe diem. I seized the day once, and I found
you that same night. You've shown me with your heart that I'm a
person. I love you more than you'll ever find out. So with that, I
toast you, Buffy. I toast you with my heart, and my life," I finish. I
can feel tears on my cheeks. Buffy's crying as well, but also seems so
touched. She sniffles, and raises her glass back to me. She calms
herself, as I patiently wait.
"I toast you, Willow Hannah Rosenberg, love of my life. I learned
that beneath every person lies somebody who can love with everything
they have. You never shied away from who you were, even through the
tough times, and I admire that. I admire the fact that you stuck with
me even when I tried to push you away. You always know how to brighten
a day either with your infectious smile or your optimistic attitude.
You will forever be my shining star in the night sky. So with that, I
toast you, Willow. I toast you with my heart, and my life," Buffy
says, again crying. I grab my napkin to dab away at the tears falling
on my cheeks. I smile at Buffy, watching her dab her tears away. We're
too busy crying to even think of drinking the wine. I set my glass
down, as does Buffy with hers.
"Think we could cause anymore of a scene?" I ask, letting out a small
laugh. Buffy smiles at the comment and shakes her head.
"I'm not sure. Remind me never to ask Xander how sappy we got," Buffy
says. I giggle, pointing out Xander. Buffy turns and spots him,
dabbing at his eyes. "Awww&" Buffy says, and I can tell that Xander's
gonna get a big hug when he returns. Xander walks by. I stand up and
embrace him tightly. Buffy is soon on her feet and also hugging Xander
as well. Xander lets out a soft groan as we release our embraces.
"We love you, Xander," I say, smiling broadly. I'll never be able to
thank him enough for what he helped do tonight. Xander just smiles at
us and gives a slight bow.
"You're both welcome. I love you both, and what better way to show
that than to help you celebrate your fifth month anniversary. Speaking
of&" Xander says, pulling a small box out of his pocket. He hands it
to Buffy who blushes slightly, and takes it. Buffy turns to me as
Xander sneaks away.
"I brought you a gift. I had Xander watch over it so I wouldn't lose
it. Here you go," Buffy says, handing me the small white box. I accept
it, pleasantly surprised. I open it to find a sterling silver
necklace. On the pendant, there's a B in one of those neat insignias
that remind me of the way a calligraphy pen looks. I lift my eyes up,
smiling as widely as I can.
"Oh, Buffy. It's beautiful," I say, just holding it. Buffy smiles and
steps forward, taking it from me. She stands behind me, clasping it
around my neck. She leans forward.
"This way, it'll be a reminder that not only do I love you, but that
I'll always be with you," Buffy whispers. I lean my head back and kiss
her on the cheek.
"I also got a present for you too," I say, fishing in my pants
pocket. After a bit of struggling, I manage to pull the box out. I
hand it to Buffy, who smiles. I don't think this night could get any
better. She opens it and pulls out a necklace. It's gold with a silver
pendant at the end. The pendant is a cross with a W inlayed on top.
Buffy looks up, eyes brimming. "The cross represents what we've been
through as well as the duty you perform, and the W is a reminder that
I'm always with you, even when separated," I say. It came off sounding
less sappy in my head. I stand behind Buffy and take the necklace,
clasping it. Buffy turns and we hug tightly, kissing passionately on
the lips. I rest my forehead against hers, just living in the moment.
Unfortunately, it's a brief moment.
"Where's the phone? I need to call the police. There's some big guy
out there trying to bite somebody," says a voice behind us. I can feel
Buffy tense in my embrace. Damn vampires. Can't they just stay away
tonight? I frown when Buffy starts to pull away. She looks at me,
apologetic. I just nod my head as Xander walks up.
"Vampire," I grumble, feeling crossed. Xander nods his head as we
follow. We show up just as Buffy finishes staking the vampire. The
sound of clapping fills the alley.
"Nice work, love," Spike says, sauntering out of the shadows. I look
at Xander, though he's as confused as I am. I glance back at this new
person. Hey, I recognize that voice. It was the voice asking for the
phone. Now I'm getting creeped out.
"Who are you?" Buffy asks. The man smiles, and places both hands into
the pockets of his black leather duster.
"I'm pretty sure you've heard of me already. Some people say I had
connections with Angel. I heard you dusted him, by the way. You're
good, if you can do that. I personally would've dusted the poofter
myself, but I was never really given the chance. So, big hearty thanks
from me to you for that favor. Don't worry, you'll be seeing a lot of
me later," the man says. He walks away, whistling. I really don't like
him. Oh&damn. Is he Spike? I bet it was! I walk up and grip Buffy's
arm to keep her from chasing after Spike or whomever.
"We should alert Giles," Xander pipes up. I keep my gaze on Buffy who
finally turns to me and nods her head.
"It was fun while it lasted though, right?" I ask, wanting to make
sure the night wasn't ruined. I'd hate to think that Buffy was having
fun, and now she thinks she didn't have any fun because some vampire
came in and fussed everything up.
"You are an amazing girlfriend. To call tonight magical would be a
severe understatement. How'd you manage to keep it secret anyway?"
Buffy asks, eyeing me. I sheepishly smile.
"I didn't put it into action until a few days ago," I reply.
"I'm glad you put it into action," Buffy says. I smile, and rest my
head on her shoulder.
Chapter 5
I was seated on the table in the library, kicking my legs in boredom.
Buffy was sitting in a chair to my right. Giles was at some teacher
meeting and Xander was at gym class, one of the few classes he
actually showed up for. Jenny was busy teaching a computer class. I
offered to assist her, but got told she could handle it. I was looking
forward to helping out and glaring at the stragglers too. Although,
being alone with Buffy also can have its perks. The library door opens
and in walks Mayor Wilkins. I recognize him from the few times he's
appeared on our local channel. He strides in, smiling. I glance at
Buffy, feeling a mix of worry, and distrust. I get off the table and
quickly step behind Buffy who rises to her feet.
"You must be Buffy Summers. I've heard a lot about you from your
mother. You must be Willow Rosenberg. I'm deeply sorry for your loss,"
Wilkins says. I just nod my head, staying guarded. I can see that
Buffy's tense, and her fists are clenched.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, trying to be cordial. I don't
exactly want the Mayor being angry with me. I don't want him being
angry at Buffy either. I hope she can control herself. Not that she
ever loses control, because she's control girl, it's just that
sometimes she can get angry quickly&okay, get a hold of yourself.
"I just wanted to say hello and meet you both. Joyce gave a raving
description of you, Buffy, and she was equally talkative about you,
Ms. Rosenberg. I understand that you two are likely going through some
trying times with-in the school. Just keep your chin up and your head
high," Wilkins says. I give a small smile and I can see Buffy relax,
just slightly. She is still tensed enough that she could probably
deliver some fancy kick that I could never do in my lifetime.
"We will," Buffy replies, now backing up so we're side by side. Buffy
takes my hand in hers, which doesn't go unnoticed by the Mayor. I
blush, embarrassed at doing such a thing in front of such a public
figure, but Wilkins just smiles at us.
"True love is hard to find, girls. Edna Mae and I, god rest her soul,
were married for twenty-eight years. It's not easy finding love in
life these days. You girls both chose an alternative route, and wound
up in a place that not many people can say they've ended up.
Congratulations," Wilkins says. I smile at Buffy, relishing in the
fact that somebody this important could see our love. Buffy keeps her
eyes on Wilkins who's retreating out the door.
"Are you okay?" I ask, touching her lightly on the arm. She turns and
glances at me, nodding her head, but it's not that convincing. "Okay,
spill," I demand. Buffy sighs.
"Something just seems weird. My spidey sense is tingling and I can't
put a finger on why. Snyder knows all about what I am and the Mayor
knew what was going on while being so far away. Doesn't this strike
you as odd?" Buffy asks me. I frown, thinking over how I want to
answer her. It has been very strange, but there has to be some
rationale reasoning, right? Then again, as Giles would point out, we
are on the Hellmouth.
"W-well, it is a little strange but I'm sure there's a perfectly
reasonable explanation," I say. Buffy just gives me a cross between an
annoyed look and an amused smile. It's hard to describe, but she
doesn't seem happy.
"That being?" Buffy asks, trying to lead into an answer. I can't
think of one yet.
"Uh&maybe Snyder informed the Mayor what he was going to do," I say.
It's a flimsy excuse, even to my mind. It's all I could think of
though and I think I should get credit for coming up with a flimsy,
but possible, idea this quickly. Hah&and Xander said I never could
rise to the pressure. Buffy just gives me a pout. I quickly
contemplate nibbling her lip, but nix it on the basis that we're
having an important talk.
"Uh-huh. Why?" Buffy asks. I gesture with my hands, waving them in a
confused manner. Why does Buffy expect me to know all the answers? I'm
really smart, smartest in my class, but still&that doesn't give her
license to walk all over me. Oh, but I shouldn't be grouchy with her!
She's just trying to get answers.
"I-I don't know, Buffy. I don't know what's going on. You should stop
acting like I know everything," I say, feeling flustered, and annoyed.
I instantly regret doing it as Buffy flinches and turns away from me.
I close my eyes, angry with myself for hurting her. "Buffy&I'm sorry,
it's just that I'm right here with you. I'm as lost as you are in
terms of what's going on. I know you're depending on me to come up
with some plausible reasoning, but I can't," I say, wrapping my arms
around Buffy's waist. Buffy leans back into my touch.
"I'm sorry too, Willow. I didn't mean to lean on you. I'm unnerved
and want to know what's going on. With demons, we could look it up,
and everything would be known with-in a day or two, for the most part.
Now, it's like we're in a circle running, and we haven't seen anybody
new for hours," Buffy says. I giggle at her analogy, kissing her on
the neck.
"Don't worry. We'll find something out. Okay, let's work out what we
have so far. We know that the Mayor contacted Snyder, so Wilkins had
to know that something was going to happen. That means he had advance
notice somehow, we don't know from whom though. We also know that
Joyce spoke to Wilkins, so he knew we were in a relationship, and he
probably knows that Snyder hates our guts. He could've just put two
and two together and called at that time. It was just a coincidence
that we were there too," I say, now in full on ramble, gears grinding
mode. Buffy turns and gives me a soft smile.
"I love when you start being all smart. It makes you incredibly
sexy," Buffy says, her voice sounding a little husky. I smile.
"Really?" I ask, wanting more ego boosting. I haven't gotten much of
that in my lifetime and I want to savor every last bit. Buffy steps
closer, wrapping her arms around my neck.
"Yup. You're everything in one neat package," Buffy says, claiming my
lips with her own. We kiss passionately, my hands starting to head
towards uncharted territory when I catch Giles over Buffy's shoulder.
Buffy feels me breaking it off and steps back, confused, and maybe a
little hurt. I gesture with my head at Giles. Buffy turns, and
instantly blushes. "Don't you knock?" Buffy asks, very embarrassed.
Giles glares back at her.
"This is my library you know. I don't need to knock," Giles says,
apparently not pleased at Buffy's remark, and feeling a little touchy.
I take a seat in the chair as Buffy sits next to me, shooting Giles an
annoyed look for breaking up our pleasure time.
"So, what's going on?" I ask. We told Giles about Spike last night.
He was clearly enthused, forgetting for a moment that we were all a
little freaked. I like research too, but Giles needs a life. He needs
more time with Jenny, if it'll help.
"Nothing important. Buffy, I want you to patrol tonight, and keep an
eye out for Spike lest he show up again. I'll make a few phone calls
and see what's going on," Giles says, heading towards his office. I
frown at Buffy, not pleased that our night will be broken up. Darn
Giles. I need smoochy time here. I stand up, hefting my backpack on.
"I have to get to computer class. I'll see you later," I say, feeling
a little down at the knowledge that my Buffy time keeps getting put on
hold. I give Buffy a brief kiss and head out the door. I can tell
Buffy sensed my mood but I can't be happy that my love life keeps
getting on the back burner today. I-I had plans for tonight too. Not
as extravagant as last night, but plans none the less. Giles then has
to ruin it. Ugh&
~~~BTVS~~~
"I'm so bored," I whine to myself. I'm lying on Buffy's bed with
absolutely nothing to do. I finished my homework early, as well as
Buffy's. I've found that it's an easy tactic to use to ensure massages
for myself. Joyce went to a showing at her art gallery. I would've
come, but I wanted to wait for Buffy. I still wasn't comfortable
waiting for her, fearing that she was hurt. I always think back to the
night Angel was killed, and how badly Buffy was hurt. I glance around,
trying to find something to keep my mind occupied. I smile to myself,
hopping off the bed, and scrambling down the stairs. I open the
freezer and pull out a tray of ice cubes. I crack three out, and place
the tray back in. I head upstairs, holding the three ice cubes in
hand, and take a seat on Buffy's bed. I close my eyes. I chant a
select Latin verse, and with any luck, my ice cubes should float in
the air. I open my eyes and am pleasantly surprised to see all three
dancing in the air. Yay me! "Hey, slow down," I command, but the ice
cubes are starting to move faster. I swear I didn't do anything!
"Eeee," I shout, diving beneath the pillow, and yanking the blanket
over me. I can feel them pelting the blanket. Finally they stop, and I
lift the blanket. The cubes are resting all displaced on the floor. I
cautiously walk over and pick one up, holding the pillow in case they
attack.
"Fending off ice cubes? Now I'm ashamed that I was stuck patrolling,"
remarks Buffy, arms folded behind me. I whirl around and throw the
pillow at her before realizing who it is. Looking back, a pillow
probably wouldn't have even scared a rabbit.
"Buffy!" I shout, surprised that she's there. I blush upon realizing
how foolish I must have looked holding a pillow at two ice cubes on
the floor. "I tried a levitation spell with the ice cubes and it went
wonky. They started whirling around really fast, and I lost control so
I hid in your bed," I say sheepishly. Great. Buffy probably thinks I'm
a big scaredy cat now. I am. Who would be scared of ice cubes? Even if
they were flying around really fast and zooming at me&
"Very brave of you," Buffy says, grinning at me. I know it's really
dumb but it did happen. Support would be nice to have.
"Thanks. Unfortunately, I didn't have my brave Slayer to watch over
me. I don't think Mr. Gordo was ready to step in your shoes either," I
reply, feeling a little catty. Buffy just smiles at this and walks
closer, tossing the pillow onto the bed.
"Well, your brave slayer is here to protect you now. I slayed three
vampires as well, so it seemed to be a fun evening for the both of us.
You did my homework!" Buffy says, leaping at me, and embracing me. I
smile and manage to position myself to where we're face to face. Doing
so resulted in some touching in other areas, making me quite aroused.
I may not be ready for full contact just yet, but I don't mind the
occasional contact. I kiss Buffy on the lips, pushing my tongue in.
This is so good. No Giles to interrupt us.
"Girls, you'll want to get to bed soon," calls Joyce from out in the
hallway. We instantly broke our kiss upon hearing Joyce's voice. I
sigh and rest my forehead against Buffy's.
"I'm thinking we'll have to soundproof this place. Maybe acquire some
signs that say "No Interrupting" too," I grumble, thoroughly
displeased. Buffy just rubs my back with her hands.
"Today didn't go as planned for you and I'm sorry. I'll make it up to
you in the morning, okay?" Buffy asks. I pull back and nod my head,
visions already dancing in my head. I peck Buffy on the cheek and head
to the bathroom to brush my teeth and let Buffy get changed into pajamas.
~~~BTVS~~~
"It went pretty well, Allen. They both seemed a bit&leery of me but I
can completely understand that. I wield quite a bit of power here in
Sunnydale, after all I built the town of course. Willow was definitely
the sweeter of the two though, innocent, and trusting. I'm going to
hate seeing her die next year, if she makes it that long. Do you think
it would be wise to have her helping out around here?" Mayor Wilkins
asks. Allen is standing still, focused on his boss. Allen pulls the
collar of his suit away to get some breathing air, but it doesn't do
much good.
"She is only sixteen, sir. I think you should wait until next year to
acquire her services. The only downside is that she'll be working with
the Slayer and they could be a big threat," Allen says. Wilkins just
smiles and leans back. He lifts both hands and clasps them behind his
head.
"You're probably right. No use having her work at such a young age,
although it does promote stability and confidence. I'm sure the Slayer
will find out what I have planned next year anyway, so I'll take the
risk with the reward. Think you could set up another meeting for me?"
Wilkins asks as Allen looks back, feeling uncomfortable. He doesn't
like the tone that Wilkins has. It's chipper, but more than usual.
"Sure, sir. Who did you have in mind?" Allen asks. Wilkins just
smiles, feeling pleased.
"Spike," Wilkins answers. At this, Allen goes pale.
"S-S-Spike?" Allen asks, really not liking the idea of cornering the
vampire. He could be a victim.
"Don't worry, Allen. Spike knows my power, and I have quite a share
of connections. Tell him I'll make him a deal. He can kill the Slayer
and all her friends on Halloween&maybe hold off on Willow if he can
help it. I'll allow him free access to them on Halloween, in exchange
for him leaving by next year. I don't want Spike or Drusilla mucking
up my plans for domination of Sunnydale. Understood?" Wilkins asks,
now leaning forward. Allen smiles nervously.
"Sure. When do you want me to contact him&them?" Allen asks.
"As soon as possible. Tonight would be quite peachy though. We only
have a week until Halloween, Allen. I think it's only courteous that
we inform and give Spike and his group a chance to plan what they want
to do. I also want you to call a guy I know. Name's Ethan Rayne. Tell
him I want some fireworks on Halloween. I'm talking a real show
stopper," Wilkins says, letting out a laugh. He stands up and pats
Allen on the shoulder. Allen leaves the office first, Wilkins
following after turning off the light.
~~~BTVS~~~
Spike was pacing. Spike met the Slayer and was a little surprised
that she had two friends helping out. He hadn't quite counted on this
girl have a cadre of helpful pansies. Most Slayers tended to fight
alone, live alone, and die alone. This&Buffy was different. Spike
really didn't like that she was different. Different meant a longer
stay here in Sunnydale. Different also meant that the Slayer was
likely harder to kill. Bullocks!
"I don't like this, love. Normally, I feel in control regardless of
the shit that is going down around us. Here though, I'm not sure if
it's the bloody Hellmouth or not, but I have no idea what's going on.
I was one hundred percent certain that this Slayer was like the
others, even with the poofter's talk, and yet I'm one hundred percent
wrong," Spike growls, now growing pissed off at this admittance.
Drusilla saunters in, smiling broadly in her black gown.
"Remember the powerful man? He's going to communicate with us. The
sky tells me he has a deal to make us happy," Drusilla says, slowly
swaying beneath Spike's embrace.
"A deal? What kind of deal?" Spike asks, growing intrigued. This guy
already met with the Slayer then if he wants to contact Spike.
"Shh&no secrets being told, or Miss Edith would inform the dancer
that she's not fit for the parade," Drusilla murmurs. Spike groans at
this riddle. He loves Drusilla with all his heart, but sometimes he
can't stand Drusilla not giving him a straight and true answer.
"Fine, love. Let's see what this good old boy has planned and see how
it goes from there," Spike replies, kissing Dru on the neck. Dru moans.
"Will you please me, Spike?" Drusilla asks, a soft pout coming on.
Spike grins and swoops her into his arms. Drusilla lets out a giggle.
"I'll always please you, my black heart of desire," Spike answers,
dancing his way into the bedroom.
Chapter 6
I have no idea what I'm going to wear! Halloween's almost upon us,
almost four hours at least, and I can't think of a good costume. I was
thinking of choosing one of those ghost costumes with a Boo written
across, but Buffy told me it wasn't scary enough. Sure it looked like
it was a tad too friendly but&ugh. Buffy wouldn't tell me what she was
thinking of, unfortunately. I've been stewing all class about what her
choice could be. I hope it's not a vampire. I've already seen her as a
vampire and while oddly sexy in a creepy way, it's not something I
want to see again.
"Buffy, what are you going to be?" I ask, nudging her with my
shoulder. She grins at me and shakes her head, returning her eyes back
to her worksheet. I sigh and let out a low grumble. I glance at
Xander. "What're you going to be?" I ask, feeling curious. Xander's
run the gamut as far as costumes go. One year, he was even the
creature from the Black Lagoon. Although considering what Sunnydale is
really like, creatures are kind of old hat.
"I was thinking Army. I can likely pick up a cheap rifle and some
army fatigues," Xander replies. I smile; thinking of one of those toy
guns, then frown at the image of Xander holding one. I give him a hard
look, but he returns with a goofy grin, and tries to continue copying
off Buffy who shoots him a glare.
"Don't worry, Willow. We'll find you something at the store later
today. I heard Snyder's been looking for volunteers to walk the rug
rats, so expect to get accosted in the halls. Are you finished yet?"
Buffy asks me. I send her a frown, but she gives me her puppy dog
eyes. I swear it's impossible to resist them. I shove my paper to her,
and she gives me one of her `Yay me, I won the battle' smiles. I've
seen it often enough when she's sparring with Giles and wants
permission to do something that he'll resist to.
"I had it done twenty minutes ago," I say, proud of myself for
finishing first, as usual. Xander gives me a shocked look.
"You mean I've been working on this&okay, copying off Buffy, when I
could've just copied off you like ten minutes ago?" asks Xander with a
pout. I roll my eyes as Buffy glares at him and points at his
worksheet in a stern manner. Xander wilts and returns his gaze to his
worksheet.
~~~BTVS~~~
Sure enough, Snyder accosted us while walking through the halls. I
was heading to my locker to drop off my books.
"Ms. Summers, Ms. Rosenberg, and Mr. Harris. I think I've found three
new, eager participants for tonight's walk around. Sign," Snyder
commands. He hands a pen to each of us as I glare back at him. He may
be the principal here but to me he's a big poop head who overruns his
boundaries. We sign as Xander hands the clipboard back and Snyder
stalks off. Buffy gives a long sigh.
"I was going to stay home too. At least until it was time to go to
the Bronze, then I was going to bring my costume. Ugh. Guess I'll have
to throw it on earlier than expected," Buffy grumbles. I smile at her.
I like kids and find them so adorable. Although the thought of
changing diapers and projectile vomit gives me a big icky factor, so
in a way, I'm glad I don't have kids of my own. That and I'm not sure
I'd be the world's greatest parent, since I'm not exactly sure of what
to do.
"It'll only be two hours. Besides, Giles said that we didn't have to
worry about any demons or vampires, right? It's like their big night
off. We'll walk the kids around, maybe get free candy, and then dance
till we drop at the Bronze," I say, feeling quite cheerful. Free candy
tends to have that added effect of making me happy. I'm still waiting
for Buffy to bring me a box of chocolates. Granted, the massages,
kisses, and flowers are nice but my tummy craves delicious chocolates.
"Sounds like a plan," Xander adds, smiling. Buffy rolls her eyes and
lets loose with a smile.
"Okay, okay. You guys have won me over to the pro-Halloween side of
the fence. I'm banking on free candy though," Buffy says to me, a grin
on her face. I smile back.
~~~BTVS~~~
We're shopping at the local Party Town store. Xander decided he'd
check out the new place, Ethan's. I'm browsing around, not sure what I
want to be. I sigh and glance around for Buffy to see if she's having
any success. She pops up behind me with a wide grin, clearly pleased
at her selection.
"Come on," Buffy says, grabbing my hand, and dragging me over to a
gorgeous 13th century Victorian dress. It's a gorgeous red that looks
like it'll be great on Buffy.
"Have you tried it on? Wait, no, you can't try it on because this
isn't like a clothing store where people can change and it'd be
awkward seeing everybody nude for a brief time and them trying on
their costumes and-" I babble, suddenly quieted by a slender index
finger. I smile against the finger as Buffy pulls it away.
"Don't worry, I already held it up, and it looks like it'll fit.
Bonus, it's fairly cheap. It only costs fifty bucks! It's on sale,
half off," Buffy explains, as I nod my head. I'm not big on the whole
shopping but even I know that sales are usually good. I wonder if
there's ever a bad sale? Like&what if a person has to sell their
hamster? They could price it at uh&five bucks and it would break their
heart to sell him but Virginia needs braces or something. Then again,
the person buying the hamster might be a four-year-old boy who is in
need of a pet because he's all alone&okay, back to reality, Rosenberg.
"Cool. I still don't know what I want to be. Stupid costumes," I
grumble, looking around again. Buffy's scooped the costume and is
carrying it around with her as she follows me in my search for the
perfect&or even halfway decent costume. I spot a little red riding
hood getup and casually wander over. I glance back at Buffy for her
approval.
"Very fine choice. My parents made me be little red riding hood for
three years in a row. My mother made the outfit the first year, so I
was burdened with it. I think you'll look good in it though," Buffy
says, cheerily. I smile back and pull the costume off the rack,
holding it up against myself, and posing for Buffy at the same time.
"You should've seen her two years ago when she was a vampire.
Thinking back, it was a very fitting choice," Xander says behind
Buffy. I glare at him, feeling embarrassed that yes, I was a vampire
for Halloween. Buffy turns back to me with a big catty grin. I pout at
her.
"I see you have a small rifle. That's it? I was expecting something
more realistic," I say, surprised at the gun. Xander holds it up with
a smile.
"I'll have you know, girls, that this is a vintage&okay, I got it for
two dollars off a homeless man. I'm kidding. I got it at a garage
sale," Xander says. I smirk, as Buffy has to cover her mouth to hide
her laughter.
"We should check out our items. How was that place?" Buffy asks as we
make our way to the cash register.
"It was okay. Not really a step up to this place though, and it was
pricier&and the guy who runs it was odd. He was British too. Think a
more rowdy version of Giles without the textbooks and musty library
smell," Xander replies. I turn and smile at the image he just gave me.
Buffy frowns and I can tell she's imagining something either different
or very, very gross. I don't want to know. We pay for our items and
quickly head out.
~~~BTVS~~~
I finish putting on my hood and turn around, smiling at Buffy. Buffy
looks so beautiful. I was admiring her for almost an hour until I
decided to get into my costume. I don't think she minded the added
attention though. I think she was savoring it a little.
"You look great. It's a shame that your hair will be hidden though,"
Buffy says, teasing and flirting with me at the same time. She's
really evil that way. I can never say no to her doing that.
"Shame you are pretty much covered with your dress too. Although,
ideas can be considered about what's underneath¬ that I'll be
considering what's underneath since I know what's underneath, no, not
that I know exactly but-" I babble and stop, too flustered with myself
to continue. Buffy gives me an amused grin as I blush.
"Uh-huh. You can find out what's underneath when we're both ready.
Until then, let your imagination occupy you," Buffy says, going with
the flow. I smile back.
"We better go. You know, to avoid Snyder's wrath although we'll get
it anyway," I say, frowning at Snyder. Darn Snyder, ruining what
should be a fun night. We're getting free candy! It can't get much
more fun than that&. except for Christmas, which I never celebrated,
but I've heard it's fun with the snow and such&if you live on the East
Coast at least.
~~~BTVS~~~
I'm walking with my group. We've been about a half hour in and it's
going pretty well. It is still dusk and getting darker, but the kids
are so cute! There's this one girl who's to die for. She's a witch
with the wart and everything. Awww&I want to take her home with me. We
stop at a house as I stand at the base of the porch to let the kids
get their candy.
"Ahhhh," the woman screams and I lift my head at her. They're
monsters! Why are they monsters? Damn. Okay, too many monsters out
here now. What's going on?
"Willow!" Buffy calls out as I see her come into view. She looks as
worried as I am. That's not a good sign, I don't think at least.
"Buffy, what's going on?" I ask, confused. Just then I spot Xander
who's roaming the street with a real rifle. When did he get a real
rifle? "Xander," I say, catching up with him. He whirls around and
aims the rifle at me. I instinctively throw both arms up but Buffy
swats me down as I grin guiltily at her.
"Back off ma'am. It's not safe to be out here. I advise you both go
to your homes and stay there," Xander says at us. Huh?
"Look, Xander. This is no time for games," Buffy says. Xander just
looks at her confused. Not good.
"Do you know where you are?" I ask, earning a quizzical look from
Buffy. I ignore her.
"I was stationed at Fort Worth, base 12," Xander replies, looking
serious. I groan.
"We have to get to Giles and no firing at the monsters. That's an
order," I tell Xander. Buffy nods her head as I motion for Xander to
follow us.
Chapter 7
I shove the doors open, leading Buffy and Xander into the library.
Xander is still holding his rifle and swinging it this way and that.
"Giles!" I shout, just annoyed at this point. I think it showed in my
voice since Giles is instantly in front of us.
"Why does Xander have a real rifle?" Giles asks as Buffy and I
exchange frowns. Oh boy.
"It seems that everybody has turned into monsters. At least&wait, not
all of them turned into monsters. I had a girl turn into a thumb-sized
fairy and a kid turned into a steroid enhanced baseball player. It's
like everybody was turning into their costumes or something," Buffy
says as the realization hits me.
"Right! That's why Xander became a soldier. Wait, how come we aren't
in our costumes? Why aren't you acting like a princess and me uh&a
little girl or whatever?" I ask Buffy. Xander is still sizing Giles up
so I shoot him a glare, which finally stops him.
"Did you buy your costumes in the same store?" Giles asks as I turn
to look at him.
"No. Buffy and I got our costumes at the Party Town store that's
always been here. Xander got his army fatigues at this new costume
store. Its name was Ethan's," I reply, not missing Giles grow tense at
the name of the store. Why's Giles growing angry at a store name? It's
not like the name "Giles" was up for consideration or anything.
"We have to get there now," Giles says just as the library doors
shove open. Oh shit&uh&crap. It's Spike and I presume Drusilla, with
roughly five more vampires. Buffy nudges Xander hard in the back.
"Those guys, you can shoot at them," Buffy says as Giles and I race
towards the weapons cage. I toss a cross bow to Buffy. Spike and
Drusilla are hiding behind the counter while I hold a stake. I'm not
big with the hand-to-hand fighting but I know how to use a stake. I
think if I had a cross bow, I'd end up shooting Buffy or Xander. Soon
the five vampires are dead, however Spike and Drusilla aren't. They
both stand up, staying behind the counter.
"Nice work, love. Ordinarily, tonight's pretty much monster free, as
I'm sure the Watcher there explained to you. This year though, things
are just a bit different. I'm not up on most of the details, however I
do know that I'm going to kill you in a few minutes," Spike says with
a smirk, stepping around the counter. Xander raises his rifle but
Buffy steadies his arm. Why, I haven't the slightest idea. Then again,
bullets can't kill a vampire but I'm on the side for pain any way
necessary.
"Red has power. She's filled with quiet, the hidden waiting to be
unleashed. Can you feel it, my little Robin? It purrs content but
it'll hatch in due time," Drusilla says with a smile. She's officially
freaky. I-in a big insane way and I don't have any power at all. I
can't even float three ice cubes without them going bonkers.
"Giles go to Ethan's and figure out what the hell's going on. Spike,
you two want to fight, I can deal," Buffy says, charging at Spike. I
let out a low whimper, torn between following Giles and helping Buffy.
Xander fires at Drusilla who takes a couple bullets but it doesn't
seem to faze her at all. I finally charge at Drusilla after seeing
Giles disappear. Xander seems in some kind of trance and has dropped
his rifle to the ground. I glance at him and turn to see myself face
to face with Drusilla. I let out a startled gasp as she smiles and
grabs me by the throat. I struggle to get out but it's not working. I
fish in my pocket and find a cross, quickly thanking God for that
minor miracle, and hold it up. It drives Drusilla back. I catch a
glimpse of Spike flying against the wall and getting up, growling.
Buffy steps next to me as Xander remains lost in wherever the hell he is.
"Are we going to be okay?" I ask Buffy. Buffy just nods her head,
picking up the stake from the ground, and holding it out in front of
her. Spike is back on his feet and leering at us.
"I like this, Slayer. You can certainly fight, I'll grant you that
much. I thought this would be really simple. I mean, I've killed a
couple Slayers already, so what's one more? Yet, you have friends.
You've made this night a lot more difficult than it has to be. I'm
going to call it off, for tonight. We'll definitely be seeing each
other in the future though. Tell Red that she'd make one hell of a
vampire if Drusilla's right," Spike says with a grin. He grabs
Drusilla's hand and marches out of the library with swagger. I can
hear Xander come to his senses behind him, confused. I frown at Buffy,
who seems scared. It's not an emotion I'm used to seeing from her, and
that makes me extremely worried.
"I'm here, alive. It's like I was trapped and couldn't speak or say
anything," Xander says as Buffy and I sit down at the table. I don't
like the thought of being turned into a vampire. Then I'd have to
drink blood, eeeugh.
"Oh! We should get back, and try and find the kids. Take them home
and such," I say, rising to my feet. Buffy gives me a soft smile and
rises to her feet as well. We head out as Xander follows us.
~~~BTVS~~~
It had been a month since that fun Halloween night. I had still
managed to get stuffed with chocolate goodness, which I promptly threw
up two hours later. Buffy scolded me and then had to follow my
example. I would've given her a big smirk upon her return but I was
too sick to bother. Life had been fairly boring since then, though
Jenny finally let me help out. I had done this five-page lesson plan
and everything too! Only a page was used but Jenny complimented me on
my dedication and told me I should be a teacher. I don't know if I
could handle high school but I think I could handle middle school. I
glance back at Daniel Osbourne, who continues to watch me. I just give
him a quick smile, which turns into a frown when I face the front of
the class again. He's really creeping me out lately. He's always
watching me and it's like he's stalking me. I've told Buffy this, and
she's kept a close eye on him. He hasn't done anything physically
though, so all she can do is just comfort me with words.
"Okay class, we'll pick this up tomorrow," says Ms. Johnson as I
breathe a sigh of relief that class is over. I grab my books and throw
them in my backpack, rising to my feet. I exit the classroom when I
realize that Oz is walking with me. I give him a glance, unsure of
what he's up to.
"Hi," I say, feeling creeped out. Oz just gives a casual nod.
"Hey," he replies. I don't like this at all and want to get away. He
begins moving into my zone of privacy, again. I glare at him but this
doesn't do anything to control the situation. I'm frowning now.
"What do you want?" I ask, wanting him to go away as quickly as
possible. He just gives me this Snyder like leer.
"Are you still a virgin?" he asks now sniffing my neck. I clench my
teeth at this action. I feel powerless right now. Everybody else is
just ignoring what's going on.
"That's totally inappropriate," I snap back at him. He pulls back and
growls at me. He growled! Now I'm scared. It's like facing a vampire
who can attack in daylight. Just as I'm about to scream, I see Buffy
placing a hand on Oz's shoulder, and throwing him to the floor quite
forcefully.
"You ever come near Willow again, I'll beat you into a coma," Buffy
snarls. She's pissed, and it's a side that she only unveils when she's
in Slayer action. Oz slowly rises to his feet but he gives a grim,
creepy, smile. He winks at me and turns, walking away. Buffy turns and
I instantly crush her in a hug.
"Buffy," I whisper into her ear. She just whispers into my ears a
variety of assurances. I rest my head on her shoulder, hating Oz, and
hating that peers of mine can be so vicious.
~~~BTVS~~~
I was holding Buffy's hand in mine as we walked along the grass. We
had scoped out a couple cemeteries however nothing had popped up, or
risen. I was lost in my thoughts as Buffy nudged me with her shoulder.
"What's going on in there?" Buffy asks, poking my head with her
finger. I give her a quiet smile.
"Just thinking about this morning and the way Oz has been acting
around me. He reminds me of Angel, or Angelus, or whatever. Oz just
acts predatory around me, you know?" I ask, wanting confirmation on my
train of thought. Buffy looks at me, and I can see the worry in her
eyes. I know that she's worried about me getting physically hurt after
this morning's confrontation.
"To be honest, he scares me, Will. He's already made remarks and
hasn't exactly been afraid to invade your space. I can't be around you
every second and I don't want you getting hurt by him," Buffy says. I
smile back.
"I love you, and I know I'm not big with the fisticuffs, but I can
handle myself. If it's any comfort, I know I can scream at least. We
can't be living our lives always worried about what might happen,
right? We're young females in love. We should be living in the
moment," I say, smiling broadly. Buffy returns the smile. I'm feeling
happy, content with what I'm going through in life. It's kind of funny
considering the badness in it but I think I'm used to it. Sunnydale
kind of has that effect.
"Did you hear that?" Buffy asks. We stop as I strain my ears to
listen for whatever Buffy heard. I can hear a low growling, like an
angry puppy. I glance at Buffy, confused at what's causing the sound.
Buffy releases my grip and cautiously stalks forward, pulling her
stake out. I follow quietly, not wanting to be away from my protector.
"I think it came from over there," I whisper, pointing at a hedge of
bushes. Buffy turns to me, nods her head, and moves towards that
direction. The growling is starting to grow louder. Suddenly, a shape
comes out of the bushes. We both instantly rise to our full height and
start backing up. It's like a man wolf&or a werewolf.
"Do you see a werewolf, Will?" Buffy asks, now nervous. I'm scared
out of my wits now. The thing looks much bigger than me. I bet it
could eat me in one gulp.
"Uh-huh," I whimper back, still backing up. Buffy holds her stake up
and stands still. The werewolf continues forward, snarling. Without
warning, of course since why would it give us a warning and ruin the
fun, it charges forward. I let out a shriek of surprise and fear.
Buffy tries to tackle it but it pretty much knocks her to the ground
and aims at me. Uh-oh. I turn and start to run but get slammed to the
ground. I feel the wind, what there is, get knocked out of me. I roll
over onto my back and stare into a snarling snout. It seriously needs
a breath mint, ugh.
"Willow!" I hear Buffy shout. She's on her feet. Why isn't the
werewolf biting me? It sniffs my neck and now come the wide-open jaws.
I close my eyes, waiting for the teeth to sink into my tender flesh.
Instead, I get a really, really loud roar of pain in my ears. The
werewolf lurches off me and to the side. I've gone deaf from the roar
since I can't hear what Buffy's saying. I instinctively scramble away
on my butt. I see three stake wounds in the fur of the werewolf. It's
breathing is lessening, slowing down. I rise to my feet, my knees
still trembling from the too close for comfort call of nearly getting
bitten by a werewolf. I wonder if that would've turned me into one.
For the first time tonight, I look up, and take in the glow of the
full moon.
"Is it dead?" I ask Buffy, not daring to take my eyes off it for fear
of it attacking me again. Buffy just stands beside me, not answering.
We watch it for about ten more minutes, neither of us brave enough to
get closer. I notice the hair start to recede and glance at Buffy.
"It's changing," Buffy, whispers to me. I nod my head, curious about
whom it is, and now worried that we killed it or him or her, whatever.
Okay, definitely a male. I frown at Buffy, feeling awkward in this
situation.
"Oh no," I say, half choking on the words at the sight before me.
It's Oz, completely nude, and seemingly quite dead as suggested by the
three puncture wounds in his chest. I look at Buffy, scared that we
could go to jail, and afraid that we just killed a person. Buffy looks
back at me, worried, and also scared. She tentatively walks closer and
bends down, checking his pulse. I see her eyes close as she pulls her
fingers away. I cold feeling of dread washes over me, like a riptide
but it doesn't pull me away.
"Dead," Buffy whispers, rising to her feet. I walk or stumble towards
Buffy until I'm right beside her.
"What do we do?" I ask. I don't like Oz, he's been creepy, but I
didn't want him dead. He was a werewolf though, and if it weren't for
Buffy, then I'd be one dead lesbian redhead in Sunnydale.
"Let's bury him and get back to Giles," Buffy says. I think I'm
hallucinating, but Buffy seems oddly calm. That or she's just detached
from this considering the deaths she's likely seen in her life. She
told me once when we were in bed about her Watcher in Los Angeles. I
bend down and start scooping dirt with my hands, making a makeshift
grave for Oz.
Chapter 8
I yawn and spread my arms out, feeling Buffy shift to remain
comfortable. I smile at her, watching her chest rise with each breath.
Giles was quite happy upon our finding a werewolf in Sunnydale. That
was after he expressed his concern at what happened to us and the fact
that Oz, a student, was dead. I snuggle against Buffy, not wanting to
get up. I'm too comfortable at the moment. Buffy turns and opens her
eyes, smiling. I kiss her on the forehead.
"Morning," I say, just feeling happy to be in bed with my girlfriend,
away from the perils of life in Sunnydale.
"Mmm, hey. I love waking up to you," Buffy replies. I smile as she
scoots herself up into a sitting position against the headboard so
we're face to face now.
"Did you sleep well?" I ask, now concerned that she had nightmares. I
had a nightmare involving a werewolf turning me into a vampire while
frogs danced at my feet as I was up on a cross. It was strange but
scary too.
"I don't remember much. It wasn't scary though&and there were
cherries and a hot tub involved," Buffy says with a smirk. I blush,
knowing full well that she remembers all the details. Now I'm starting
to get a very good image. I better get ready for school lest my body
take control of my mind. I get up off the bed, earning a protesting
groan from Buffy. I just smile back at her.
"Sorry, but if I stay, I'm not sure we'll make it to school at all,"
I say, pulling my pajamas off so I'm wearing only a white lace bra and
matching panties. It took me a while to get comfortable with wearing
just those two items in front of Buffy. Sometimes I still feel a bit
self-conscious, but I'm getting better about it. Just a year ago, I
could barely talk to a boy, though it's obvious why, now.
"That would be bad right?" Buffy asks, teasing. She's now in
seductive mode and she knows that I know. She has to make this so
hard, doesn't she? Evil vixen.
"Very, very bad. I-I have to go, take a shower," I stammer, grabbing
a towel, and clean clothes before dashing out of the bedroom. Buffy
grins, leaning back, and glancing at the clock.
~~~BTVS~~~
"We killed a student, Giles," I say, still feeling bad about killing
Oz, even if he was a werewolf. Buffy just rests her head on my
shoulder as we're seated at the table. Xander's sitting opposite us,
while Giles paces, as usual.
"I understand your feeling of despair, Willow, but he was a werewolf.
If you hadn't killed him in his werewolf state, he likely could've
harmed somebody else," Giles says, trying to reason with me. I frown,
still not getting over the fact that a person is dead.
"I don't know about you, but I'd rather take Willow living over a
werewolf Willow and werewolf Oz," Xander says, as Buffy kisses me on
the cheek. I let out a sigh, knowing they're right, but refusing to
accept it.
"Will, you know they're right. You shouldn't be beating yourself up
over this. The guy was harassing you, and you said it yourself, he was
acting all predatory. Who's to say that he wouldn't have attacked you
another night?" Buffy asks me as I look at her. I can see her concern
and worry.
"Before you came to Sunnydale, it was never an odd occurrence. Yeah,
people would go missing, but it was the norm here. Now that we're on
the inside, it's like we know the secret. We see students we know,
talk to, and walk with everyday dying. We know why they're dying and
often see their corpses. I don't like to think that we're the reason,"
I say to Buffy, feeling bad about the deaths. Buffy sighs and takes my
hands in hers.
"It's tough doing this, Willow. I understand exactly what you're
feeling, because I felt that way throughout my freshman year at
Hemery. All I can say is, imagine how many would be dead without us?"
Buffy asks as I sigh.
"Have his parents been told yet?" I ask Giles.
"I believe so. I'm sure they've been contacted," Giles replies as I
nod my head, and stand up.
"I have to get to class. I'm fine, really. I just need some time to
sort my thoughts," I tell Buffy, grabbing my backpack, and walking out
of the library.
~~~BTVS~~~
"Did they do their job, Allen?" Mayor Wilkins asks. Allen knows that
the Mayor already knows the answer, and tugs at his shirt collar in a
nervous manner.
"W-well&" Allen begins, but gets cut off.
"They didn't. Granted, I wasn't expecting them to kill everybody but
I figured that with their backgrounds, they could at least wipe out
Buffy. Instead, their gang remains formidable. It's no fun if they
never die, Allen. I like them for their aid in the tourist trade, but
I really can't afford to have them here when I Ascend at Graduation.
What should I do?" Wilkins asks Allen.
"I-I don't know, sir. They're always together," Allen replies,
stammering. Allen doesn't like being in the spotlight, especially when
Wilkins is displeased. Allen's heard rumors of what the Mayor does to
those that displease him.
"We can figure it out next year, though. I really shouldn't be
concerning myself with such matters this year. After all, this year is
about preparation, and making sure that everything is ready to go when
the next school year is under way. I need my PR dates settled, my
tributes accounted for, and so on and so forth," says Wilkins with a
smile. It's cheery, typical of the Mayor, but underneath it is a cold
hostility. Allen knows that smile too well. Allen nods his head, and
exits the room. Wilkins sighs and leans back. "Willow Rosenberg
certainly would do well as my right hand next year," he mutters to
himself.
~~~BTVS~~~
I know I'm skipping a class, but I can't help it. I'm standing next to
Oz's makeshift grave, holding a rose in hand. I don't even know why
I'm here. It's not like I felt safe around him or anything. It's just,
he was a student, you know? He shouldn't be dead and buried in a place
where his parents can't even locate him. I place the rose on his grave
and kneel down, finger painting "Oz" in the dirt. I stand back up,
placing my hands in my pockets.
"I'm sorry, for what happened. I hope that wherever you are, you're
with loved ones. Goodbye," I say, turning, and heading back to high
school. Oz deserved that much from us, a final goodbye from somebody
in this world. It might be selfish, but I couldn't live with myself
without doing something for him. Sure he was all stalker guy on me,
but that doesn't mean he deserved to die this young. I'm still not on
board with his death, but I no longer feel like ripping myself apart
over it. He was a casualty of the war, as Xander told me one night
after we had just joined up with Buffy as her Slayerettes.
~~~BTVS~~~
"What's wrong, Buffy?" I ask, entering the library, and seeing my
girlfriend seated in a chair with a cold cloth pressed against her
forehead. Her blonde locks are drenched in sweat and she looks pale.
"Just the flu, or something," Buffy replies. I frown at Giles who is
attending to her. Can Slayers get the flu? I thought they were pretty
much indestructible, at least to stuff like common colds.
"Is that the case, Giles?" I ask, wanting to make sure that is the
case and that it's not like some demon hurt her or something. Giles
just shrugs his shoulders.
"I believe that it is a strong possibility. Although Slayers are not
prone to such viruses, they are not completely oblivious to them,"
Giles replies, standing up, and letting me sit down to hold the cloth
against Buffy's forehead.
"You shouldn't patrol tonight," I say as I sit down. I don't want
Buffy getting hurt in her weakened condition. She needs my tender love
and care tonight, and for as long as it takes for her to get over this
thing.
"Really, I should patrol," Buffy says, trying to fight me. I frown at
her and give her my resolve face.
"No way," I reply. Buffy sighs, seeing that I'm not budging at all on
this issue.
"Xander, Jenny, and I can certainly take up the task of patrolling a
few cemeteries and slaying a few vampires. We may not be as skilled as
you, but we are efficient in our own way," Giles says now frowning at
the end of his sentence as I grin at him. I think he just admitted
that they screw up a lot, which isn't making Buffy feeling any better
about staying in tonight.
"They can handle themselves, Buffy. It's just a few vampires right?
You'll be up and about before you know it," I say, smiling at her. She
gives a small smile back, apparently feeling the effects of whatever
she has quite a bit.
"Promise to dote on my beck and call?" Buffy asks me. I giggle and
nod my head.
"Yes, I will be your personal slave tonight¬ a love slave though,
cause that's just strange, but your housekeeper, like turning your
sheets over, and washing your towels, and maybe not putting a mint on
your pillow unless you're craving a mint in which case I'm sure I
could scrounge something up," I say, babbling away to my hearts'
content. I stop, blushing, and glare at Buffy who just grins back at me.
"I love when you babble. It makes you stand out even more from
everybody," Buffy says. I smile back as she swallows. I just shush her
and keep pressure on the cloth, trying to keep the fever down. I stand
up and walk over to Giles who's standing by his office. Buffy has her
eyes closed, a hand placed on the washcloth. I glance back at her,
concerned, before turning my gaze to Giles.
"She'll be okay, right?" I ask Giles, concerned that Buffy won't be
okay. I don't like seeing Buffy suffer, and it seems that she's gone
through that quite a bit. I just wish I could take the pain away, or
transfer it to myself, and make her all better.
"S-she should be fine in a few days, I suspect," Giles answers. I
stare at him, a little harder than usual. He seems like he's hiding
something. He keeps shifting his eyes from me to Buffy, and just seems
fidgety. I supposed it could just be that Buffy has a bug and Slayers
don't normally get it, though.
"Are you okay?" I ask, trying to figure out what the hell's up with
him. He's usually stern and focused and not prone to moving much, if
at all besides to pace around and tell us how the world is going to
get blown up or something.
"I-I'm fine, good as ever. Why?" Giles asks, in a slightly guarded
tone. I frown at him, not happy that Giles is keeping something from
me. I'm not exactly his bestest friend in the world but I like to
think that he could confide in me if something came up.
"Nothing," I answer, still staring at him. I move back over to Buffy
and help her rise to her feet. I throw my backpack on and manage to
sling Buffy's over my arm while keeping a hand on the cloth and the
other on Buffy to keep her on her feet. "Let's get you home, baby," I
whisper into her ear. She mumbles something that I interpret as okay,
even if it was to the contrary. We can afford to blow off one class
for her health, especially since we've saved the world. I think that
entitles us to some perks and leeway.
~~~BTVS~~~
I finally forced Buffy to take some pills to help her out. They
haven't seemed to work that well, much to my disappointment. I watch
Buffy, still applying a cold cloth to her forehead. I took her
temperature a half hour ago and I received a 99-degree fever, which
isn't that high compared to normal but doesn't make me do jumping
jacks either. Buffy's mumbling incoherently as I frown down at her. I
hope she beats this thing soon. I feel so bad to see her suffering
like this with no way to help her. The phone rings and I glare at it,
angry at the interruption. I pick up the receiver, making sure that
the cloth is still on Buffy's forehead before answering.
"Hello?" I ask, still feeling a bit cranky at my TLC getting
interrupted, especially when Buffy's still in pain. "Oh, hey Giles.
No, I haven't seen Joyce. Why?" I ask, before glancing at the clock.
Wow, it's really late, even for Joyce to not be home yet. This is more
like Buffy returning home from patrol time. Something's wrong. "Why's
Buffy involved?" I ask, now confused. Giles is telling me things that
I have no idea about. He says something about a test that went awry.
"W-what? What test, Giles? Look, can we talk about this in the
morning? I'm a little busy with Buffy right now," I say, cutting Giles
off. Giles stammers his apologies and I hang up the phone. What test
was Giles talking about? How are Joyce and Buffy involved? I let out a
sigh of weariness and lean back, brushing a couple hairs off Buffy's
face. She still looks to be in pain but she's finally starting to cool
down some. I think the fever's breaking a bit. I yawn and mentally
admonish myself, trying to keep my eyes awake for Buffy's sake, but
it's a losing battle.
~~~BTVS~~~
I help lead Buffy into the library the next morning. Joyce never came
home last night, not that I saw anyway. I looked around for a note or
any phone messages and there were none. That worried me, coupled with
the fact that Giles had been all mystery guy earlier then confession
guy last night. Something's going on and I want to find out. I take a
seat at the table, holding Buffy's hand in mine. She's still pale and
her skin's clammy, but she no longer has a spiking fever, as if that's
any comfort. I glance up in surprise at the thump made by a briefcase
smacking the tabletop. Giles looks down at us with a somber face.
Somber face is never good, especially with Giles.
"What's this?" I ask, glancing at Buffy. She's as confused as me,
though I'm sure that this flu that she has isn't exactly making her
super genius Buffy either. Giles opens the briefcase to reveal a
syringe and a liquid in a vial.
"I'm so sorry, Buffy&and Willow. I was merely following the Council's
orders. As your Watcher, Buffy, I had to administer this in the event
of a test. Normally, it would fall on your 18th birthday however they
changed the wording so that it's now on the 17th birthday of the
active Slayer," Giles explains. I frown at Giles, not liking the sound
of this at all. Buffy is now looking a little angry, at least as angry
as she can look in the condition that she's in.
"What did you do, Giles?" asks Buffy in a fairly cold tone. Giles
flinches and stares back down at the contents of the briefcase.
"When that birthday comes, the active Slayer is given this&erm&drug.
They will then be placed in a contained setup where they are to face a
task, usually a vampire, at the Council's choosing. The Slayer is then
forced to fight to the death. Should the Slayer die, the next one is
called. Should the Slayer win, then the Council just continues with
its job. This drug is designed to make the Slayer a normal human
being. It takes away all of the Slayer enhancements and renders you a
normal, teenage girl in all facets from hearing to physical strength
to awareness," Giles says, regret in his voice. I glare at him,
shocked that he could do such a thing to Buffy, of all people. Buffy's
on her feet and lets out a low growl.
"You injected me," Buffy growls, now quite angry. I just sit there,
glaring at Giles. I'm still too shocked to say anything. How could
Giles do this? "You betrayed my trust in you, Giles. I trusted you
like a father, and you use that trust to manipulate me. Who are you?"
Buffy asks, now bitter, and hurt. I stand up, placing my hands on her
shoulders, but she shakes me off. I frown at the action.
"Buffy, I-I'm sorry. If I had known-" Giles starts, but Buffy lets
out a laugh, a Cordelia type `what a loser' laugh.
"You knew exactly what you were doing, Giles. What were you going to
do? Send me in to fight a vampire when I was defenseless? So, I guess
my almost getting killed all these times wasn't enough for you, huh? I
mean, I died last year, but no, you wanted to ensure I'd stay dead
right?" Buffy snarls. I can feel the hurt and pain that Buffy's
feeling course through me.
"No," Giles says. Buffy just shakes her head. I look at Giles, as
hard as I possibly can muster.
"How's Joyce involved?" I ask. Buffy looks at me in surprise, she
never knew about Joyce. Giles swallows as Buffy swivels her head. Her
glare could take out the sun in its intensity.
"The creature that we had set up for Buffy to face, Zachary Kralik,
escaped. He's a vampire but has had an affinity for mothers upon
killing his own after being turned," Giles says as I pale. Buffy leans
forward, both palms on the table.
"Where are they? So help me, if my mother is dead&" Buffy threatens.
Giles just nods his head.
"The old boardinghouse on Prescott Lane," Giles says in a whisper.
Buffy turns and marches out. I watch her leave and turn back to Giles,
now just very angry.
"You were her father, Giles. She trusted you&more than she even
trusts me. Your relationship with her exceeds any that she has,
including with her own mother. To do this&" I say, just disappointed
and so angry that I can't even finish. I stalk off and shove the doors
open, hoping to catch up with Buffy. She's in no condition to fight
and I'll help her every step of the way.
~~~BTVS~~~
Buffy pushes open the front door and carefully steps in. She's
holding a crossbow while I'm holding a stake. We each have a backpack
with additional items with a bottle of holy water in our pockets.
Buffy's wearing overalls over a black shirt while I'm wearing a white
top and blue jeans. We creep in, me backing Buffy up. I hear a low
growling and whirl around to see a vampire, but I don't think this is
the head guy. Buffy shoots a crossbow into its heart, instantly
dusting it. I glance at Buffy, silently thanking her.
"I want you to find my mother and make sure she's alright, okay? I'll
try and distract this Kralik guy," Buffy says. I look at her, worried
about us splitting up, and her being able to protect herself against
this guy. Giles made it sound like the guy was very dangerous. I nod
my head and walk off, trying to find Joyce.
"Very smart. Yeah, let's split up so we can both get killed," I
mutter to myself, gripping the stake in my hand tighter. I can hear
the sounds of a chair scraping below me and frown, trying to find some
way to gain entry. I spot a chute and walk over, peering inside. I can
now hear the chair scraping, volume rising up through the chute. I pat
myself on the back, internally at least, and say a quick prayer before
sliding down the chute. I could hear Buffy fighting somebody, I assume
Kralik, just as I began my descent. I hope she's okay. Not that I'd do
her much good being up there with her, aside from moral support which
isn't really needed in a fist to fist fight. I turn and spot Joyce
tied up with a gag in place. I pull her gag off and smile. "Hey," I
say, trying to be calm in the face of a scary situation.
"Willow, are you okay? Is Buffy here?" Joyce asks as I nod my head,
trying to untangle the ropes but not having much success. I look
around for something to cut through the bonds but I don't see anything.
"I'm fine. Buffy can take care of herself," I say, worrying that
Buffy may be having trouble or possibly injured. I let out a gasp, as
the door slams open with Buffy appearing. "Buffy!" I say, surprised
and relieved. My relief quickly turns to fear.
"Kralik's coming," Buffy says, looking for something, I have no idea
what. Buffy spots a bottle that looks like prescription pills and
takes out her bottle of holy water. She pours it into a cup and grabs
the bottle of pills just as Kralik appears, roaring in pain, and
clutching his head. He's mumbling something about pills as I dash
behind Joyce to avoid instantaneous death. Kralik pins Buffy to the
wall and grabs his pills, popping like five in his mouth before
grabbing the cup of holy water and drinking it. I just watch in
amazement as he begins to groan in pain, before vanishing in dust
after realizing he was drinking holy water. I hug Buffy tight, glad
that she's okay, before releasing my hold.
"Uh, girls," Joyce says, bringing us back to reality. I blush and
kneel down to help with the bonds when I feel myself thrown against
the wall and hear Joyce scream. I glance up to see Buffy thrust
against the wall, and a vampire leaning in when Giles appears out of
nowhere, staking the vampire in the back. Buffy and Giles just look at
each other as I rise to my feet and move to stand by Joyce.
Chapter 9
I was sitting in bed, feeling antsy. Buffy, Giles, and some British
guy had gone back to the library. Buffy sent me home to keep Joyce
company. Joyce had just gone to bed, but I was staying up to make sure
Buffy came back safe and sound. I glance at the clock before swiveling
my head back to the opening door so quickly that I wince in pain.
"Hey," I say, glad to see that Buffy's alright. She gives me a smile
and walks closer to the bed but doesn't climb in. I just watch her,
waiting for her to start. I can tell she's working on what to say in
her mind.
"Quentin, the other British guy that you saw with us, talked with
Giles and I. He told me that he was head of the Watcher's Council. He
congratulated me on my victory. He told me I had passed, but Giles
hadn't. Quentin said that Giles had shown too much of a fatherly love
and affection for me and that he was jeopardizing the cause, the war
between the Council and the demons," Buffy explains, now sitting on
the edge of the bed. Giles was fired? They can't fire Giles though can
they? Wait&are we supposed to be sad or happy after what Giles did? I
can see that Buffy looks sad though, so I think it's sad.
"Giles was fired? S-so, he's unemployed now? He's like, jobless,
right?" I ask Buffy, wanting more clarification on this very important
matter.
"He'll still be the school librarian, but he won't have access to the
Council. They are sending me a new Watcher soon, probably with-in the
week," Buffy says. I frown at this announcement. I want Giles as
Buffy's Watcher. I like Giles, even if he did what he did but he was
just following orders&
"Is Giles going to leave when this guy comes?" I ask, now scared at
the prospect of Giles going back to England and abandoning us. Buffy
shakes her head as she sidles up next to me.
"No, Giles will stay, for us. He won't let anything happen to us, I'm
sure of it," Buffy says. "I can't wait until I get my powers back or
become the Slayer again. Did you know I had to ask Giles to open a
bottled water for me?" Buffy asks, rhetorically. I smile; glad to see
that she isn't angry with Giles any more. I felt betrayed but he is
Giles&I didn't want to hate him.
"I bet it sucks being your average girl huh?" I ask, leaning in, and
kissing Buffy on the lips. She smiles as we break.
"It has some perks, although those perks were there when I was the
Slayer. I'm having a craving for Willow lips&want to help satisfy me?"
Buffy teases as I grin and take her lips with my teeth.
"Satisfaction guaranteed," I reply.
~~~BTVS~~~
"Hey. Mind if I join?" I hear a voice ask from over my shoulder. I
turn to recognize Faith standing there. I smile.
"Sure, take a seat," I say. I'm waiting for Buffy but I could use the
company while I wait. I've seen Faith around since her first day.
She's very sure of herself and tends to come off as a bit of a slut,
not that I know she is one&"How's school treating you?" I ask, trying
to make conversation.
"It's going alright. I've never been a big school person, it's more
to just do something. So, I gather that you and blondie are something
of a new fixation for Sunnydale High, huh? Just hearing rumors and
such," Faith says as I eye her, trying to decide if she's being nasty
or not. She doesn't seem like she is.
"It's not exactly what's considered normal in Sunnydale but Sunnydale
isn't exactly known for being normal," I reply. Faith gives an amused
smirk.
"I've definitely learned that," Faith replies with a chuckle. I frown.
"What do you mean?" I ask, trying to figure out what she meant. Does
she know?
"Well, you know, things at night," Faith says as I pale, but she
doesn't seem to notice.
"Faith," Buffy says, somewhat cold. I glance up at Buffy, surprised,
before recollecting myself.
"Hey, Buffy. Faith just joined me to eat," I reply as Buffy narrows
her eyes and sits down. I frown at Buffy as Faith looks between us
uncertainly.
"If you want&I'll go," Faith says, getting up, and walking off. I
watch Faith, then glare at Buffy.
"See what you did," I admonish her, angry that she can't trust me.
"What? I just sat down," Buffy says, full well knowing exactly what
she did. I glare at her harder, as she lowers her eyes, refusing to
look at me.
"Yeah&you sat down and basically intimidated her. Buffy, you have to
be more accepting&and you have to trust me. I've told you that I won't
abandon you. Did you forget our five-month anniversary? I feel like
you don't trust me in her presence," I say as Buffy looks at me.
"I do trust you, Will, I just don't trust her," Buffy says, finishing
somewhat lamely. I frown at her.
"Look, just be nice to her, okay? For me?" I ask, as Buffy gives me a
slight scowl but nods her head.
"I'll be nice. Doesn't mean that I'll like her though," Buffy says as
I smile, catching Buffy's pout. She can be so irresistible.
"Thanks, that's all I ask. If Xander and I can put up with Cordelia,
you can definitely put up with Faith," I say, with a smirk. Buffy just
rolls her eyes. I kiss her on the lips before standing up. She frowns.
"I wanted to catch up with Xander. Thank him for the fifth
anniversary. I never did formally thank him," I say, blushing. I had
been meaning to thank him, but it was never the right moment. I walk
out of the cafeteria, in search of Xander.
~~~BTVS~~~
Jenny asked me to help after the last class today, after I had
briefly talked with Xander. I told Buffy I'd meet her later, which
turned out to be five hours by my count. I had finally got out. Jenny
would've driven me home but she had to fix some things up and get a
guideline setup so she was staying, which meant that I was left with
the wonderful task of walking home&alone&in the dark, at night.
"It's okay. You have a bottle of holy water and can handle
yourself&against one vampire at least. Let's just hope there's not
more than one, okay?" I ask myself, trying to make me feel better
about this but it's not working at all. I think I'm making myself more
nervous. I let out a scream as I feel a hand clasp my shoulder, whirl
around, and throw the bottle of holy water at the face of my attacker,
bottle and all. The thing lets out a grunt of pain and falls to the
ground, clutching his face.
"Ow, bloody hell," the man sputters as I frown. He doesn't sound like
a vampire&and I don't think vampires are prone to wearing business
suits and carrying briefcases.
"Who are you?" I ask, trying to make myself scary or intimidating.
The man rises to his feet as he lowers his hand. He has a pretty good
black eye as I wince and lower my eyes, embarrassed that I hurt him so
badly.
"I'll be f-fine, thanks. Wesley Wyndham Price, Buffy's new Watcher. I
saw you walking around and I've heard rumors that Sunnydale can be
rather dangerous. I wanted to make sure you were safe. Here, I believe
this belongs to you," Wesley says, bending down, and handing me my
bottle of holy water that remained intact somehow. I sheepishly take
it back and begin to walk towards Buffy's house with him in tow.
"So, you're the new Watcher, right? What do you know about
Sunnydale?" I ask, curious to find out exactly what Wesley knows and
doesn't know. Giles seemed pretty up to date on the going ons but
didn't seem to be big on the fighting, at least, at first.
"It's on a Hellmouth. Demons, vampires, and the sort converge,"
Wesley answers. I nod my head.
"Have you ever fought any vampires?" I ask, trying to appear innocent
without showing my hand so to speak. My hand of cards that is,
although I'm not carrying any cards.
"I've managed to fight two vampires. Of course it was in a controlled
environment&for their protection of course," Wesley says, quite proud
of this fact. I giggle at this. Wesley looks at me with a mix of a
frown and a glare. How do those British guys do that facial thing
where they can express two different emotions at once? I swear, Giles
has done like four or five at once.
"Two vampires? Well, you don't have to worry in Sunnydale," I reply.
Wesley looks confused now.
"I don't have to worry about vampires?" he asks, as I have to stop,
laughing so hard. I finally quiet myself to a manageable smile.
"Controlled circumstances. We get plenty of vampires, believe me, and
they aren't your ordinary everyday garden variety either. We've had
The Master, Angel, and now we have Spike and Drusilla," I say,
rattling the names off in my head, and ticking them off on my fingers.
At this, Wesley grows pale. "Don't be scared. We've already killed two
of four," I say, trying to ease his growing tension. It's starting to
affect me and I don't like it.
"Do you know where a Mr. Giles lives? I would like to speak to him
before the night's through," Wesley says as I nod my head.
"Yeah. I'll let you know when we reach home, Ms. Summers' place. I'm
sure you know why I call it home, I hope. I don't like to talk about
it much if I can help it," I reply quietly, thinking back to the end
of sophomore year. Wesley remains quiet, letting me dance about in my
head. We continue to walk in silence for a good thirty minutes,
thankfully, no action, before arriving home. I thank Wesley and inform
him of where Giles lives. I give him my bottle of holy water before
heading into the house.
~~~BTVS~~~
"Tomorrow night, Slayer," I read again, placing the note on the
table. Buffy, Cordelia, Xander, and myself are all seated there. We
were basically just hanging out, until Giles gave us that letter. He
said that Wesley had received it from a fellow that gave him "quite a
fright" as Wesley put it.
"A shindig at Buffy's house?" Xander asks, a grin on his face. Buffy
gives him a pout.
"Last thing I need is a party at my house. I can just picture my
mother being happy cleaning up our mess. I'm to assume it's a Spike
and Drusilla message. Gee, nice to know that they live in the subtle,"
Buffy says, looking restless. Buffy didn't get much action last night,
from vampires or me for that matter. It's not that I didn't want to,
more that I was just bushed from working so hard. Buffy understood but
I think she has the teeniest grudge against me now. I'm always on the
side of the grudge&I'm never the grudger person. I should do something
about that someday.
"All I have to say is that I'm glad they're finally making a move.
I've been trying not to see you people, you know? I barely like any of
you but you guys have a way of saving me. God, it would be so nice if
I didn't have to do this whole secret agent act," Cordelia grumbles. I
glare at her as Xander smiles.
"If it were up to me, the number of times we saved you would be
drastically dwindled down to oh&zero," Xander replies, smirking at
Cordelia. I smile. It's not often that Xander can get a dig in at
Cordelia.
"I wish it were zero so I didn't have to hang out with you guys. It'd
certainly help my status remain intact," Cordelia snaps back.
"So, why are you even here then?" I ask, now wondering what good she
does. She rarely helps and when she does, she's always griping about it.
"Think of it as me doing you guys a favor, okay? I offer my aid and
you guys get marginally cooler. I'm helping you out here in more ways
than just whittling stakes," Cordelia says, like it was all so obvious
and we were too dumb to even notice. I frown at her, not happy that
her answer was so condescending. I know I'm not exactly cool, and am a
nerd, but I'm not that bad off, am I?
"As much as this talk of status encourages me to knock myself
unconscious, let's focus on the matter of Spike and Drusilla, shall
we?" Giles says, clearly annoyed now. Wesley seems to be annoyed but
in a way that he can't say anything. He's also paying quite a bit of
attention to Cordelia&ewww.
"Uh&y-yes, we should be prepared for whatever Spike and uh&Drusilla
have prepared for tonight. Granted, it can't be good," Wesley says as
I grin at him.
"Wow, Wesley. No wonder the Council was so proud to send you here," I
say casually. Now I definitely know that Buffy's been a very bad
influence on me. That was harpy, and a little cold. I try for an ease
smile but Wesley just looks ruffled. Buffy looks at me, surprised, as
I blush and scrunch in my seat to try to hide myself.
"Let me guess what the plan is? We all stick together tomorrow night
and just wait?" Buffy asks, looking at Giles, and ignoring Wesley.
Giles sighs and begins to speak over Wesley's protests.
"Given how dangerous Spike and Drusilla are, I would consider it ill
advised for us to split up at all," Giles replies as I nod my head in
agreement.
"There's no way we're splitting up tomorrow. Over my dead body, not
that I want to be dead and you could just step over my dead body
pretty easily but&" I say, starting to get into babble mode and
cutting myself off before I get too off track.
"Y-yes. We won't let you get harmed if we can help it," Giles says,
giving an encouraging smile. I smile back, proud to see our friendship
coming through the forefront.
"Need I remind you that Buffy's a Slayer and the rest of you would be
merely endangering yourselves for no reasonable purpose," Wesley says,
clearly flustered at our actions. I glare at him, as does Giles while
Xander just shakes his head.
"Ah&as opposed to the mortal danger that we face every single night?
Clearly you've won me over, Wesley. The danger we face nightly pales
to this one night so let's stay home and wait for Buffy to die," Giles
says, driving the stake of sarcasm deeper than I've ever known him to
do before. I think my eyes are bugging out and I can see Xander with a
really pleased smile. Buffy looks as shocked as me. We aren't used to
Giles acting like one of us.
"I'm aware that Sunnydale may be rife with vampires but being a man
who's fought two, I can tell you that you'll only be risking
yourselves to permanent death rather than helping Buffy," Wesley
protests, trying to get us to give in.
"Fought two? They were in controlled circumstances. Remember our talk
last night? You're not breaking Buffy and I up. I'm not going to
abandon my girlfriend in the face of this. We've fought side by side
with her against the Master and had to endure Angel right with her.
It's futile, Wesley. Just accept that we aren't budging from our
position. You can either join us or stay in the library to mope," I
say, basically laying it down for him. He may be the new Watcher but
he's not apart of the Scooby Gang, not yet anyway. One thing we take
pride in is being a team, Buffy and her Slayerettes.
"I still strongly forbid this, but if you five want to go out and get
yourselves killed, I won't stop you," Wesley says as Cordelia frowns
and raises her hand.
"I'm not going. I have cheerleading, you know, something that's
non-demon related. It's apart of normal life. I don't even know why
I'm still here," Cordelia says as I roll my eyes, already sick of her
`me' comments. She gets up and leaves, Wesley obviously missing her
presence. I give him a disgusted look as he blushes and promptly walks
into Giles' office. I glance at Buffy who gives me a knowing smile.
I'm sure she had the same exact emotion upon that sight.
"Well, now that we erm, got our way, I think we should try and map
out a plan," Giles says. I nod my head and lean forward; ready to work
out whatever we need to do.
~~~BTVS~~~
Xander and Giles are squatted behind some bushes. I'm seated on a
park bench next to Buffy, who's holding her stake. So much for hiding
what she is. I look around, not pleased that Spike and Drusilla
haven't shown up yet. It's already been fifteen minutes.
"Well, if it isn't our two lovebirds. I wanted out weeks ago, Slayer.
You just wouldn't suffer though. You had to completely change on me,
with your friends, your bleeding Watcher, and the fact that you've
already survived death. Yeah, I heard about that one, love," Spike
says, sauntering into view. He's alone though and that's unnerving in
its own right. No Drusilla and no flunkies to back him up. Buffy and I
exchange glances, worried about why Spike's alone.
"We are going to fight and not make small talk, right?" Buffy asks,
already getting herself into position. Spike just grins.
"In due time, love. You Slayers are always fight first, talk later.
Me, I like to talk. I like to learn about my victims just before I
kill them. The last Slayer I killed was on a subway system in New
York. She had a child then, quite amazing considering the longevity of
most Slayers. I killed her right and proper but she put up a fight.
I've heard about you though. Transferred from another high school, got
kicked out for burning down the gym. I find that fascinating," Spike
says, staying where he is. He pulls a cigarette out and lights it.
Clearly, Spike's taking his time and I don't like it. He's like Angel,
just waiting things out, rather than attacking instantly like most
vampires. It's unsettling is what it is.
"I'm sure you'll find it equally fascinating when you dissolve to
dust too," Buffy comments. She's growing testy now, she really wants
to fight, and get this over with.
"Witty, always a bonus for a girl. Shame I'm going to have to kill
you, though. You're a hell of a lot more interesting than most Slayers
I run into. Don't worry yourself, Red, I'll make sure you both get
reunited in the afterlife," Spike says, taking his cigarette out, and
grinding it out on the grass. I back up a couple steps as Spike
charges at Buffy who quickly rolls out of the way and rises to her
feet. Where are Xander and Giles? They should be ambushing right now.
Why isn't this going to plan?
"Ah&so quiet when you're scared. Shhh, no need to be afraid of Mommy,
little one," whispers a voice behind me. I instantly freeze as
Drusilla places a hand around my throat and presses myself against her
body. I can see Buffy still with the upper hand on Spike. She glances
over and sees me. I try to smile at her, but instead I wave my arms
frantically knowing it would be far more effective. Hello, I'm about
to die here, you know?
"Shit," I hear Buffy curse, getting knocked down by Spike. Spike
positions himself between us, not well. I can hear Drusilla breathing
on my neck and shudder. Why isn't she biting me yet? Buffy ducks a
roundhouse kick and levels Spike with a right hand. She grabs him by
the chest and lifts him up, holding him to her chest with a stake to
his chest. I manage to look up at Drusilla, in full vamp guise, and
she's smiling. Smiles are bad, big bad, especially in my current
predicament. No smiles, please?
"Buffy," I cry out, growing more worried with each passing second.
We've reached a stalemate and I still don't know where Xander and
Giles are.
"O-okay. A trade. You let her go, and I'll release Spike. You two
leave and Spike doesn't die," Buffy calls out as Drusilla lets out a
giggle.
"Slayer. That trade isn't very fair. I like the redhead, she
brightens my sunny disposition so tell me, Buffy, are you ready to
lose her?" Drusilla sing songs in my ear. I wince at the foul stench
of her breath and look at Buffy, pleading with my eyes. She lets out a
growl and presses the stake harder to Spike's chest. I now understand
the ruse Drusilla's playing. She doesn't think that Buffy will stake
Spike.
"Hehehe&come on, Slayer. If you're gonna bloody stake me, then do it
already," Spike snaps at Buffy. I frown, knowing that if Buffy does
that, I'm good as dead&literally.
"Spike, shut up. You touch a hair on her head, Spike goes, and you
get tortured," Buffy growls at Drusilla. I let out a small yelp of
pain as Drusilla bends my head to the side sharply. I feel her tongue
caress my neck and barely keep my vomit down.
"Red is awfully enticing though," Drusilla says with a pout. She
glances at Spike, almost looking at him for permission to release me.
I give him my most hopeful, pleasing smile for added effect.
"Bloody hell, Slayer, you just staked me," cries out Spike in alarm.
I glance at Drusilla who looks surprised, and now angry. I wasn't
expecting Buffy to stake him, even if it wasn't the heart. I give the
slightest hint of a smile, seeing Buffy's surprise in her eyes before
she turns all serious again.
"That's right. Let Willow go, or I'll stake you right in the heart
next time," Buffy snaps at Spike who's practically pleading with
Drusilla to release me, or his eyes are at least.
"Dru, honey, the sooner I'm out of the clutches of this bleeding mad
woman, the better for my undead life," Spike pleads, struggling in
Buffy's clutch. I feel Drusilla's grip loosen enough to where I can
get away, and get away I do. I scramble to the side, making a wide arc
to Buffy so Spike doesn't just intercept me. Now I hear Xander and
Giles groaning by the bushes&so much for manly help. Buffy only lets
go of Spike when I'm behind her. Spike stumbles away, hand over his
wound as Drusilla walks over to him. "You bloody staked me, and
personally, I like my undead life more so than your sodding
girlfriend. I don't need to be getting staked, ya know! You are the
Slayer though&which presents a problem. You see, I came here to kill
you, not get myself killed," Spike says, still perturbed that Buffy
would physically harm him in such a manner. I whirl around upon
hearing a voice that I recognize.
"I thought I told you, Spike, that you and your girl could only
attack on Halloween," says Mayor Wilkins. I frown and glance at Buffy
who looks ready to kill first and talk later. Xander and Giles come up
from behind us.
"Wilkins. You didn't tell me that the Slayer would actually be
tough," Spike snarls as Drusilla smiles, watching the interplay along
with the rest of us. Wilkins walks forward.
"I have some power, Spike. I know that two of your old clan are
already dead, both at the hands of Buffy&and her friends. I'm not
going to protect you or Drusilla. Buffy brings in a boatload of demons
from all over. You said you wanted your mitts on her, you did, and you
failed to kill her. I have important business to conduct next year and
I don't want you or Drusilla around," Wilkins says in a warning tone.
Spike snickers and walks forward, Drusilla by his side.
"Or what, Dick?" Spike snarls as Wilkins smiles.
"Well, I could have you two tested on. Yes, we have an experimental
facility that takes pride on seeing what makes demons tick. I've heard
that they've been working on implants. Pretty much, take yourselves
for example. They implant this tiny chip, and you won't be able to
harm a living thing, not even a flower, without feeling massive pain
in your head. I've seen them for myself, really quite remarkable. You
want to test me?" Wilkins asks, as Spike glances at Drusilla, now
seeming unsure. I bet the thought of not being able to feed is making
Spike have second thoughts.
"He's telling the truth," Drusilla whispers to Spike, eyeing the
Mayor with scrutiny.
"The truth, huh? I'm not one to be constricted. You want to run the
show here? Fine. We'll be back though, Dick. We'll return and when we
do, the Slayer, and her friends better watch their backs," Spike
snarls, looking over us one by one. He grabs Drusilla's hand and
stalks off, clearly pissed off at what's happened, but not willing to
risk himself to getting tested upon to prove himself the bigger bad.
"Excuse me&what the hell was that?" asks Buffy, waving at Wilkins. I
frown, not sure if Wilkins is a good guy or not. What does he have
planned for next year?
"Ah, Buffy, and the rest of the group. Sorry for the intrusion,
however I had to put my foot down. Don't worry yourselves over what's
going to happen, really. Just make sure you get through this year.
Next year's going to be a doozy, I can promise you that," Wilkins
replies with a smile. I frown, still confused as to what side he's
really on. He turns, walking away, as we all look at each other
confused. Giles has a nice welt on his forehead; it looks angry, and
lumpy. I frown at Giles, staring at the bruise. He gives me a smile.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. Give me an icepack and a gallon of pain
killers, and I'll be good as new," Giles says. Buffy kisses me on the
forehead as I snuggle against her, still thinking about Wilkins, but
also pleased at Buffy's actions.
"You really staked him," I tell her, happy that she did, and not
exactly hiding my surprise in my words. Buffy just nods her head.
"I couldn't kill him, but I knew that I had to make a statement. I
told you I'd protect you, baby," Buffy says. Xander and Giles look
confused, unaware of what exactly happened.
"We'll explain it to you when we get back. Right now, I'm craving
mocha. We also need to try and figure out what's going on," I say as
we turn to head back to life in Sunnydale while Spike and Drusilla
flee to wherever they are headed to.
"So, think we'll get anymore excitement over the next five months,
G-Man?" Xander asks. Giles glares at him.
"Don't ever call me that. I can't say for certain, but I'm sure we'll
have our fair share of battles, and we also have the Mayor to figure
out," Giles replies.
"Look on the bright side. We live in Sunnydale," Buffy says as I just
smile, resting my head on her shoulder as we walk. Life can't get more
exciting&or scarier for that matter. Me? I'm looking forward to what I
got on my SATs. I've already gotten several dozen letters from
colleges wanting my services due to my high GPA. Poor Buffy hasn't
gotten any, but I'm sure she'll get hers soon. I'll drag Buffy to a
4.0 kicking and screaming if I have to. Through hell or high water,
she's getting into a good college if I can help it. Yeah&we'll show
them. Buffy looks down at me with a smile. "What's going on in there?"
she asks as I snuggle against her.
"Just thinking," I reply. Life should continue to be exciting,
provided we survive the rest of junior year. Hey, we've already fought
major big demons, so I'm not worried. Sunnydale or no Sunnydale, I'm
charging into the second half with a full head of steam.
~~~BTVS~~~
Five months have come, and gone. We haven't learned much on the Mayor
unfortunately, but we're making progress in other ways of life. Faith
occasionally joins us at the Espresso Pump. We haven't exactly
included her into the Scooby Gang, but I think she's aware that we
haven't been up front with her in regards to our extracurricular
activities. If she has noticed, she hasn't said anything. Buffy has
been better around her, though, which I'm grateful for. I've recently
become the "fulltime" tutor for both Buffy and Xander, though they'd
both deny that. I know they're using me, but it's nice to help my
friends out in the academic area. SAT results were returned and I
managed a 1540, Xander got a 1050! (After I spent nearly 2 straight
weeks of 24/7 mentoring with help from Buffy and Buffy had to resort
to prizes&), and Buffy got a 1430! Xander also managed a 2.50 GPA for
the year and Buffy managed a 3.20! She's been getting letters from
some big colleges now, like Boston College, UCLA, and Northwestern!
I'm so excited for her, and Xander too. Xander's gotten a couple
college acceptance letters&okay, only one, but it was from UC
Sunnydale. Yes, academic achievements make me very excited, as Joyce
pointed out to me when we read our scores to each other in the living
room. Buffy's gotten her driver's license too, along with Xander.
Right now, I'm the only one who's car less or rather can't even drive
but that should change this summer. Joyce hasn't said anything about
getting cars for us though, which makes me think that she's smart and
knows the insurance rates. I saw them one night online&yikes.
"Hey, you ready?" Buffy says, leaning through the doorway with a
smile. I grin back, just feeling excited.
"Sure, I'll be right there," I reply as Buffy ducks back out. I pick
the phone up again. "Hey, back," I whisper as I listen to the other
voice on the end say stuff, then hang up. I hang up the receiver and
glance at the door, feeling slightly guilty. You see, that was the
Mayor&You know, Wilkins, the guy who we're trying to figure out. He's
offered me a job that I have to accept or reject by the first day of
Senior year. It is a fairly important job, and I might be able to get
some inside information. Okay, I'll discuss it with the gang when that
time comes. Right now, we have to celebrate the fact that we're all
likely go to college. I bounce off the bed and scramble out the door,
mochas swirling in my mind. Senior year, here we come!
