First of all, who are we talking about exactly ? Buffy and Willow OR Sarah and Aly.
For the real life, beauty goes the same of course but Aly's style is more feminine and better than Willow. Sarah is ok too. And about their real characters Aly is much more smart and cool. She's not a goofie. Sarah is ok again :) she seems to be nice, respectful and disciplined.
But for the ones in BtVS, BUFFY i say. She's both beautiful and strong. I love her personality. She always makes sacrifices for the ones she loves. And there's a muscle advantage goes with her ;)

Sarah was playing the central character the show. But her character was being treated like shit.

Yeah I’m with you exactly! I love Willow, don’t get me wrong, but Buffy it was her eyes. One scene just grabbed me, the episode Beauty and the Beasts(?) where at the end, a just returned, Angel hugs her...so many emotions flashed over Buffy’s face and then her eyes man! Wow. I hate quoting Joss cause I feel Joss just says what he thinks people want to hear, but Joss said at the middle of the second season that he had no idea what he had in SMG. He thought BtVS would be a cute a little show that lasted a few seasons – but then he
discovered SMG’s true ability and that’s when he changed the show into a real drama. He said that cast was good but when SMG turned it on it made everyone turned it on to keep up with her.
As for the season six and seven SMG has said that she really didn’t like the direction the show took and that contributed to her leaving. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her come out and say a bad thing about it – just that she didn’t like the direction. The scene with Spike at the Bronze was just one of the things she complained to the writers about.
