Although I would prefer more Buffy and Willow in a B/W fanfic, I find this an engaging story. Prescience is a tricky idea to explore, but I think you're doing fairly well with it. It seems that one of the themes you're exploring is whether one can change a future already seen. My main concern with your treatment of it here is that I'm not entirely convinced when Dakota hesitates. I'm too aware that she's hesitating because of the needs of the plot. You've previously established Dakota as fairly strong-minded and strong-willed, succeeding despite the many obstacles she's faced, so it's going to take a lot to convince me that she'd lay in bed all night, sit around shuddering most of the morning, and then go to attend to guests rather than getting her ass to Will's room. All in all, however, I'm enjoying the story and look forward to future installments. |

DEM - thank you for your honest feedback! I felt at the point we are in (pt 7) the same way you do - this is supposed to be B/W, so where's the B/W? I am getting there, I promise. As re: Dakota... good point, very good point. I think what happened is that Dakota reacted to what she saw in a way which was very out of character for her: she froze. Which is not a very Dakota-like thing to do... but briefly put yourself in her position: she's never before seen a thing that didn't come to pass; she didn't know if she would be able to do anything about it; she knew Giles (aka advice-man) was coming; she didn't think Willow would move that quickly; and above all else - she'd just had a moment of prescience which foretold the death of the woman who is the greatest love of her life thus far. I don't think I would be myself in such a position. As I say, I think that's what happened... this cycle has really for the most part written itself, and sometimes the characters do things I don't expect. |
