This is after all a pair of shows where the rules of magic were adapted to fit the currently running plot lines, ignoring consistancy in favor of plot expediency, so there's no reason you can't do the same. Yes, it is different than I'd envisioned -- I'd expected the pregnancy to draw the two together because Willow would fall naturally into the partner role with Buffy -- but this is a worthy variation.
