My contribution to the rumor theme. I use Dave Matthews Band's, "Recently" in this one. It's not mine. And oh yeah, post-Hush.
Willow walked down the hallway toward Room 214, the dorm she shared with Buffy. Before she could open the door, it opened for her, and Riley came out. She looked at him, and he didn't seem to be very happy.
"Hey Riley." She said in her usual cheery voice.
He focused on her now, not saying a word. It was like he was trying to see something, or find something. After a few seconds, his expression changed to one of surprise. Closing his eyes, he sighed, opened them and then finally nodded to her in acknowledgement of her. Then he proceeded to walk away.
Willow didn't hear much of what he was muttering, but she thought she could make out the words, 'stupid', and 'I must be blind'. She shrugged. She had just come back from a strange experience herself, so trying to figure out why Riley was so upset.well it wasn't a priority.
Tara, her new Wicca friend, was nice, and.a lesbian. She could see it a mile away, bit until Tara brought it up; she wasn't going to say anything. It was kind of nice; she had to admit, to be complimented like that. A year or two ago she might have been a little freaked by that type of thing, but college was an open place for all types of people.
And on the purely spell side of things, she had found someone to help her learn stuff. She finally went into the room, and shut the door behind her.
***
She found Buffy sitting on her bed, the stereo on. She went to sit on her bed, and her friend finally noticed her.
"Hey, Will."
"So, what just happened?"
"What, you saw Riley?" Willow nodded. "We talked."
"And I'm guessing it wasn't a happy talk."
"Not really. We kinda revealed stuff. He works with the military guys."
"He does? For sure?"
"Yep. He said as long as I kept quiet, he'd keep quiet."
Willow started to listen more to the song that had just come on. She smiled, and continued the conversation. "So.it's not gonna go anywhere?"
(Recently I've been All of content and dreaming I have been 'Cause I been lately seeing Quite a bit of this woman live on my street People stare and we just ignore everything People stare and we just ignore them And they go away, go away)
"No. I said I wasn't going to go after bad boys with a dark side, and I meant it. I told him other.stuff too."
"Oh." Willow said, relief in her voice. "Well, I got hit on."
"What?" Buffy asked.
"Don't sound so shocked." Willow said dryly.
"Sorry. You know I didn't.who?"
(She comes to me I watch her drink I watch her comb her hair Both say that we never before have Felt as recently)
"Tara."
"From the Wicca group?"
"Uh huh."
"So she's -"
"Uh huh."
"So what'd you do?"
"Nothing."
(People stare and we just ignore What's the use in hiding out She says all the time Let their eyes do the worrying about)
"Oh. Good."
"Why?"
"Well.wouldn't want nasty rumors being spread around." Buffy felt the beginnings of a grin.
"Why would they be nasty?"
"No reason."
Willow got up and moved over to Buffy's bed.
(She and me go to places quiet Where we are quite alone Kiss and we hold together We will be until we're done)
"Riley could start some too, ya know."
"He wouldn't.and why?"
"You know why."
"Do I?"
Buffy put her hand on Willow's cheek.
(People stare and we just ignore What's the use in hiding out She says all the time Let their eyes do the worrying about)
"Yes." Willow said kissing her friend.
"I guess I do." Buffy smiled, and then hugged her. "But I say let them."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
(Both say the we never before Never before have felt as recently People stare and we just ignore everything People stare and we just ignore them And they go away, go away)
"Because?"
"They'd all be true. And I wouldn't care."
"Neither would I."
"Then come on. I need mocha."
They got up, and walked out the door, holding hands. As they walked to the stairwell, there was a guy and a girl coming up.
'Let them stare.' Buffy and Willow thought, as they ignored the couple, and walked away.
