They're were being called on once again to save the world. It wasn't
even their world this time, but an alternate universe that would
perish without their help. And they would do it, they would go into
this battle and give up their lives if need be, they were Senshi,
that's what they did.
Everyone one of them was needed, no power could be expended; because
of this the air was thick with tension. Not everyone was pleased to
rush off and leave all the responsibilities they had here. However
the Princess had ordered them to, not asked but ordered, something
they were not used to.
Usually so pliant with the ideas of others, willing to bend to
compensate everyone; she had held fast here. No compromise this time,
she was the leader and they would follow her. It was their destiny,
their choice.
***************
Sailor Pluto appraised her fellow soldiers. Each of these girls she
would entrust her life to. Every one of them was closer to her than
any sister could ever be. All of them were going on this mission
based on nothing but her word that a thousand years ago the Queen
Serenity had promised that if they were needed they would help.
Yet none of them knew her, not Sailor Pluto or Setsuna Meioh, but the
girl she had been before she was ever Sailor Pluto. The girl that had
accepted this destiny not knowing the loneliness that would come with
it, the girl who was rapidly despairing at her fate.
****************
From within the circle a golden haired girl smiled at her ring of
protectors. They had done as she'd asked, followed her. Of course
there had been opposition, but when it came down to trusting her to
lead them they had not let her down.
Lead them, that was what she would do, as she never had before.
Because now that they were following her she couldn't afford to show
the weaker side of herself. She must not be Usagi Tsukino but Sailor
Moon, Princess Serenity. No, there could be no weakness now, because
this mission would be groundwork for Crystal Tokyo. Relations between
the two dimensions were important, and she had to prove to herself,
to the others, that she could handle it.
*****************
She hated this; to leave her world unprotected. She felt as if she
was shirking her duty, something no one would ever accuse Haruka
Tenoh of, at least not to her face. She trusted Mamoru with this as
much as she could but she would have felt better if they weren't
leaving.
And of course they were, because Pluto had said it was needed, and
the Princess wouldn't allow them to forswear the oath her mother had
made. They all realized what an important time this was for
Serenity, realized that she must mature in her leadership.
So she was going. Going to another universe to help people she'd
known in a past life, a life she could barely remember. She had no
quarrel with that-of course not- or she wouldn't be Senshi. She was a
true Soldier of Love, willing to fight for others if the need came.
But still she felt uneasy about leaving this place, this universe,
even if it was in the hands of Tuxedo Kaman.
******************
For days before Setsuna had ever mention this alternate dimension to
them; she had seen something in the Great Fire. Flashes of a girl
with blond hair, of monsters like youma, but different. She had known
that something big was about to happen; that somewhere there was a
great evil they needed to fight, innocents to save.
So it didn't really matter if Usagi ordered them to go. She'd already
known they would, had known that they would be abandoning things
here, so she'd prepared herself. Began the process of assuring
herself that this was the right thing to do. So she wasn't really
obeying a demand, but following through her own decisions. Because
Rei Hino did not follow demands or orders, people followed hers.
Deep down though she knew that Sailor Moon had affected her decision.
That she felt that in some strange way following her would
communicate to Sailor Moon-to Usagi- Rei's support. Because she could
not say it, could not bend for even a second. Sometimes a part of her
cried out against that, that she must always stand tall in the face
of adversity. Just once she would like to be able to be Usagi, to be
able to make mistakes.
********************
They were all watching her, looking towards the center of the circle
waiting for their leader to tell them what to do. Waiting for her to
command them to risk their lives. And she would do it, even though it
broke her heart and made her want to cry out at the injustice of it
all; she would do it.
At last it came, the signal. Sailor Moon turned towards Sailor Pluto
and nodded her head, they were ready. Sailor Pluto nodded her head in
response and raised her Time Staff. She opened the portal, silently
willing it to stay open.
All heads turned towards the portal. This was really happening; they
were going to do this. Their was a momentary air of disbelief
surrounding them, and then Sailor Moon stepped forward, out of the
circle, and in front of the portal. Usagi desperately wanted to turn
back, to make sure that they were following her, but she knew she
couldn't show that weakness. So she walked on, head high, back
straight, and eyes forward.
They followed-of course they did- even if they didn't agree with her
about the importance of this mission. They would have followed her
just because she was their friend, because she inspired that kind of
love in them, that kind of devotion.
The Inner Senshi went first, as it should be. After all they'd been
with her first. Had loved her-it seemed- longer. After them followed
the Outer Senshi, more reserved and mature. They'd been reluctant in
the beginning to follow her, but it made them no less fervent in
their devotion to her. She was the Princess, they would... they had
followed her not only to the ends of the earth, but into the depths
of hell. Now they were preparing to follow her to another dimension,
to more girls with forced destiny.
Girls who had no choice but to forestall their own life for the good
of a world, girls who like them would one day lose their lives in
the fight for justice.
It's strange the things that bring us together.
