Me again,
I was just wondering...Where do we stand when it comes to
beta-reading ? Are people accepting it ? Are people offering to do it? I
know that the whole fanfic writing theme has come up recently and i
noticed that one of the things that people seem to mention the most is the
necesity of a beta reader, so i just wanted to know if there are people
out there up for the job...You see, i was thinking, and i thinkthat
it would improve, at least a little, the quality of the fics posted here,
or at least give the more unexperiented authors a chance to discuss their
work...
So, the idea i had in mind, an idea i had since i created the lists
and that i tried to implement, without sucess , in our should have been
site was: we could try to gather a group of people
willing to do a little beta reading, and post a weekly notice with their
names and especifications and mainly let people know that there
are others out there willing to take a look at their work and maybe
help them improve a little....It would also help give the newer writers a
little more confidence...Knowing that someone looked over their work and
all that...
As for the specifications, it would be something like, the kind of
story said reader is more used to...there are some people who are not
familiar beta'ing crossovers, others don't like stories with too much
sex...It would mainly narrow the field a bit, try to avoid a more
complicated situation later on...Also, what is your strongest point as a
beta...People sometimes only need someone to go over the grammar,
others need help with the plot, other with the story/character development
and so on...That would give the writer the chance to pick someone more
suited to attend their needs...Also, the amount of time or even whichtime
the beta is more likely to be availible and so on...
So, if anyone out there feels fit to help , please do let us know,
on/off list, doesn't matter...It's a great way to give a little back to
the writers : ) ... But remember, this is serious....We really don't
need people saying they want to be a beta just so they can get the stories
first...We need people who are willing to take this seriously...So, if you
think you could help, PLEASE join the ship : )...
Well, one or two more posts and i'm gone...
ANd yeah, i'm aware that that my ordinary posts need a little
betareading, but in my defense, it's 1:23, haven't slept in the past 48
hours and it's the internet, everybody's spelling is always bad : )
