Re: Questions

Hey Ivy,

to correctly translate some phrase to Latin, one must know quite a couple
of details about the context and what exactly is to be expressed by the
phrase, since in Latin, the differences between two entirely different
meanings of a word or phrase is often very subtle (one letter difference,
in the worst case).

In your case, for example, it's not entirely clear whether the phrase "go
to sleep" is supposed to be an order (imperative), although I assume it is
in the following. And it's a difference whether one or more than one person
is/are supposed to go to sleep.

'(single person) go to sleep!' = 'dormitum i'
'(more than one person) go to sleep!' = 'dormitum ite'

'Fire' is 'ignis' in Latin. 'ignem facere' is 'to turn on the fire'
(infinitive). Again, if you want the imperative, this becomes 'ignem face'.

Hope this helps,

HD
