Don't have a lot of time so here goes:

*Personally I try to stick fairly close to canon, but if I come up with an 
interesting idea I try to do what will make the most interesting story.

*As a Pagan and a Wiccan or at least a former Wiccan let me say something 
first. Paganism didn't turn into Wicca, Wicca is a type of paganism. Being a 
pagan means you worship one of the pre-Judeo Christian deities. This could 
be the Hindu, Egyptian, Amerind, Greek and so forth. And since Joss doesn't 
follow Pagan/Wiccan canon when he writes Buffy I see no problem in you 
writing your own history of Paganism. Just remember, there are Pagans out 
there who will take what you write as badly as anyone else. So be prepared 
for flames.
