FIC: Angel Of Mercy (Prologue); The Downward Spiral
Angel Of Mercy
Prologue - The Downward Spiral
Disclaimers: Well, nothing has changed since my last post, I still do not own any of the characters on, or associated with BTVS. They belong to Joss and Mutant Enemy and still others I can?t even think of right now. We?re still out playing but the turf has changed. I just wanted to make sure everyone had a turn.
Spoilers: Uh, umm...no, I really can?t think of anything.
Rated: very low R for little bad language
Summary: Angel has been having an odd feeling for sometime now. He?s thought nothing of it, simply associating it with his next case. Could the development of Buffy and Willow?s bond be effecting him? Maybe.
Author?s Note: I just wanted more characters to come out and play, I just want to be fair to all of them. This is the first time I?ve ever tried anything with these characters, and yes I know that I?m throwing some out of character. This is the continuation of Destiny Achieved and I promise to get back to Buffy and Willow as soon as possible.

~ Angel?s Place, Los Angeles, CA ~
Nightfall was quickly approaching as Angel paced his room. There had been reports of abnormal demon activity coming from central L. A. Tonight Angel would be going out to check things out, he was upset that he hadn?t seen it earlier. Since hearing of the recent developments Angel had, had an odd feeling, a feeling of total emptiness. Something beyond simple demons and vampires was causing havoc on his town and he hadn?t seen it. >>How could I miss something like this?<< he kept asking himself. Cordelia had brought it to his attention the night before but morning was coming fast and he didn?t get a chance to check it out the night before. Neighbors had called the police after hearing screams but when authorities arrived at the alleged crime scene nothing but blood could be found. No bodies, no signs of struggle, and not a damn print anywhere. Fear gripped Angel?s soul, something just wasn?t right.
Then he remembered Cordelia?s animated expression when she told him the news and lectured him about paying
more attention to his surroundings. >>She?s so beautiful<< he thought to himself and suddenly came to an abrupt halt. After a moments thought he smiled and continued his pacing again, "So what. I think she?s beautiful. We?ve been working together long enough, I had to notice eventually. But when did I notice? It?s been a while now, who am I kidding? But nothing can ever come from this, she could never see me as anything more than her boss. Besides, I can?t even try. I mean the last time I...Buffy...my soul..."
But before Angel could finish his thought it hit him. Like a bolt of lightning an excruciating pain surged through his entire body. Before he could continue his musings he was falling to the ground. He was on his knees by the time darkness blanketed the land.

~ Outside Angel?s Place ~
Cordelia Chase banged on the door to Angel?s. The night before he had insisted that they meet at his place once night came, some type of safety precaution. Cordelia didn?t fully understand, but the vampire had been acting strange for some time now. Either way, she could never say no to the brooding vampire. Something about the doom and gloom just made him that much sexier. >>He?s just so sexy<< she thought to herself >>Now I see what Buffy saw in him all the time<<. So now she and Wesley were at his door.
"Perhaps he had to step out," Wesley answered as he saw Cordelia?s impatience growing. Even Wesley had noticed the way Cordelia looked at Angel. It was evident that she felt something for him, but it was difficult to tell if the vampire reciprocated her feelings.
"He?s not gone Wesley, we saw his car outside," Cordelia snapped back as she banged on the door again.
"Bathroom per..." but Wesley could not finish his sentence.
The wail was of pure pain, not simple yells from torture, but pure excruciating pain. Both clearly recognized the source as Angel, he was in pain.
"FUCK!" Cordelia said as she withdrew a key from her purse. >>Fuck! Faith must?ve gotten out. Damn it Angel, I knew it was all just an act. You bonehead<< she thought as she opened the door.
Wesley just looked at her with a look that asked ?Why do you have a key??
Cordelia just shrugged as she let him in saying, "Hurry, help me find him."
Both friends entered calling out for him, without receiving an answer.
"Faith!" Cordelia yelled, "What did you do to him Faith? Where is he?!"
"You wish I was Faith," came the evil reply as the demonic figure stepped out of the shadows. Wesley never stood a chance as the vampire backhanded him into the nearest wall. Upon impact he lay unconscious.
Cordelia stood in silence, fear gripped her soul as it radiated from her. "A...A...Angelus," she finally managed as the vampire came towards her.
"Well, look what we have here," he said as he brought his hand up to Cordelia?s face.
"Don?t touch me," was all she could say as she tried to shrug off his hand.
Angelus merely let out a sinister laugh, "Don?t fight it, you know you want this. You want it bad. You need me to..."
"Get away from..." but Cordelia cold not finish before she found herself pinned to the wall. A strong hand gripped around her neck as she struggled in vane.
"You live because I make it so. You will listen to me. Tell the slayer I have returned, I told her I would. The game continues, if she does not come to me I will find her. I will destroy that which she loves most," said the vampire in a deep even voice, his words truth not empty threats.
Cordelia continued her struggle until she found herself hitting the ground. She was alone, he was gone. Not seeing any signs of Angelus she rushed over to Wesley. Helping him up they rushed out to Cordelia?s car. She didn?t even have to think she knew where she was heading. >>There?s nowhere else<< she thought to herself as she dialed a number on her cell phone.
RING-RING-RING
>>Answer damn it, come on<<
RING-RING-RING
>>I know that you?re home, pick up the damn phone<<
RING-RING-RING
"This better be good!" answered the angry voice.
"Buffy..." was all Cordelia could say.
"Cordy?"

TBC
Ok, this is the beginning of Angel of Mercy. I hope it came out decent. Sorry about format. I just want to show the other side of the coin. Don't think Angel was off doing things on purpose. This entire section popped into my head when I saw the preview for this season?s Angel. I hope you liked it. In the next part I?ll explain how this was able to happen without Mr. Vampire experiencing his moment of happiness. I?ll get it out as soon as possible. And Buffy and Willow will return as well.
