I can't answer this question but it sparked on of my own. Is
there any guide anywhere as to what the different ratings mean
and mapping the ratings systems of one country to those of
another? For example I'm most familiar with the UK ratings
system as that's where I live but tend to rate my fics using the
US system as that's what I tend to see most and guess the rating
on the ratings I've seen of other fics I've read.

As best I can tell here's how it seems to be (ratings expressed
US/UK, --- means no equivelent):

G/U - Suitable for pretty much anyone.
PG-13/PG - Parents might not want to let children under 13 see
this.
---/12 - Unsuitable for children under the age of 12.
TV-14/--- - Suitable for a television audience over the age of
14.
R/15 - Unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15 (no
unacompanied/no under 15s allowed).
NC-17/18 - Unsuitable for anyone under the age of 17/18.

I have heard mention of a PG-17 rating but am not sure if that's
an actual film rating or just someone got confused and meant
NC-17. I have also seen an Austrian rating of MA 15+ which I
guess is the same as an R.

Is this right? Can anyone fill in the other nations ratings
(email me and I'll put together a web page with a table of
equivalencies[1])? Have I missed out any US ratings?

[1] It can't be exact as, for example, I know that the UK and the
Republic of Ireland use essentially the same rating system yet
films in the UK which get a PG certificate will frequently get a
12 or 15 in Eire.
