This is the Australian system for comparison.

C - designed for children (eg. Barney)
G - for general viewing (eg. documentary on plants)
PG - parental guidance recommended (eg documentary on sharks that may scare 
the sh*t out of some young kids)
M - suitable for mature audiences, looking at about 12+ (eg Buffy)
MA 15+ - children under 15 must have an adult with them (eg. Total Recall)
R - restricted to people 18 and over (eg. Body of Evidence)
X - controlled. Only available in certain states. (eg. anything with bad 
music, non existant plots, and graphic display of pink bits. Hardcore porn or 
the Spice Girls Movie. hehehe.)
