Re: Re: Re; Trinity's Child 8/?
To explain the whole 'Xander's got a gun' (a frightening prospect to some)
for you all.
True, British police take a dim view of guns (enough to give pro-gun nuts
nightmares or warm the hearts of anti-gun nuts) and even foreign police
generally go unarmed.
However there is the matter of 'Defence of the Realm' (National Security for
those of you who use pounds as a measure of weight, not to buy Buffy on DVD).
Remember, Xander is there at the behest of MoD (Ministry of Defence) to
assess (and maybe train a bit more) a British team (SAS, SBS, Paras, Royal
Marines, take your pick or mix and match). The MoD can tell the Home Office
(or whatever the equivalent is to the Attorney General's Department in UK. I
forget) to get knotted when it comes to matters of defence. In any case the
Security Services (what used to be called MI5 and MI6 who are, in my
professional dealings with them, extremely professional and exceptionally
anally retentive. Not dissimilar to the US Secret Service in this regard)
would be on side.
I know of several cases where foreign nationals have carried concealed
weapons in countries such as the UK and Japan (which makes the UK look like
the Wild West) with few, if any, conditions. Any bobby who nabbed such a
person would find themselves writing parking tickets in Belfast during
marching season. (Two words, look 'em up: Car. Bomb.)
As for the docklands being dangerous. Port Moresby, Dili and Ambon (in all of
which, the RPG is a fashion statement. And I'm not talking about Role Playing
Games) make the docklands seem as safe as the White House. Safer even,
considering George 'Dubbya' Bush is president and the nuclear button is way
too close to the intercom one. (And the rockets' red glare, the bombs
bursting in air). :)
Plus it could be an area where a stake and a cross are more useful than an
AK-47. (The AK-47. When you absolutely, positively, gotta kill every
motherf**ker in the room)
Hope this sheds light.
