Trinity's Child 12/?
"Our mother was Vietnamese and our father was born in Singapore. They
met when our father went to Saigon on business. He owned a bunch of
electronics and heavy machinery plants and our mother was his interpreter.
They fell in love and got married and had us.
"It was our mother who told us of vampires. She grew up in a little
village called Long Tan. Vampires roamed the area, turning a few people,
killing most others. They turned her father and he killed her mother and two
brothers. She set fire to her father.
"She always told us of the vampires. How evil they were, how to kill
them; our father thought them just superstitious ghost stories. So did we.
But one day we discovered the body of someone who the vampires killed. The
bite marks, the draining of the blood, it showed us that vampires were real
and walk among us. We vowed that we would hunt the creatures that had
destroyed our mothers family." Tran told Jenny and Paul who sat listening to
his story.
"So you guys go cruising bars looking for vamps." Paul said.
"They hunt the bars and night clubs looking for the easy meal. They
take them to some quiet back street and kill them. Police put it down to
crime gangs or the like." said Li. Jenny nodded.
"Yeah, they do that back home too." she said.
"Now you know about how we come to fight the vampires. How did you
come to fight them?" Li asked Jenny and Paul. Paul rolled his eyes and smiled.
"It's a long, long story best told by Jen." Paul laughed. Jenny
briefly looked at Paul as if to say 'Thank's alot'.
"Ok. Where to start?" Jenny asked.
"The beginning is customary." Li giggled.
"Ok. From the beginning." Jenny said composing herself.
"To each generation there is born a Slayer. One girl..."
"Very James Bond." Tina remarked as her and Xander entered the
underground HQ. Tony was waiting for them.
"Hey Xander." Tony said hobbling over to the two of them.
"Q, meet Tina. Tina this is Lieutenant Commander Tony McDonald. He's
our gadgets man, hence the nickname 'Q'. Your 007 call was pretty close."
Xander grinned. Tina smiled too. Since that horrible night, Xander had been
there for her. He made her laugh a lot; something she hadn't done in a very
long time. He was there as a shoulder to cry on, a friendly face in a world
tipped upside down. With him Tina felt safe.
"Buffy and the rest of them are held up in traffic. They shouldn't be
too long. Give her the tour." Tony suggested and went back to his workshop.
Xander showed Tina around the HQ, stopping at Tony's workshop last.
They watched in silence as Tony made small adjustments to some electronic
gizmo. Satisfied that all was well, he turned on the power.
A sizzling snap and a shower of sparks marked the destruction of
whatever Tony was working on. Cursing like the long serving sailor he was,
Tony switched off the power and looked at the smoking device.
"What you blow up this time?" a voice behind Xander and Tina asked.
Xander turned to see Buffy, Willow and Giles. Xander gave Buffy and Willow a
huge hug. Tony walked out of his workshop.
"Hey guys." Tony said.
"Hey Q. What you blow up? Some vampire killing ray gun?" Buffy asked.
"Worse. The wife wanted me to fix the doorbell. Well, it's fixed all
right."
"Yeah, in the broken and smoking kind of way." Willow pointed out.
Giles gave a cough as a subtle way of getting their minds back on the reason
they were here. Tony picked up on it.
"Well, I better let you guys get aquatinted. If anyone wants me, I'll
be down the Watto Bay pub. Getting legless." Tony laughed at his little joke
as he hobbled out. Xander started the introductions.
"Guys, this is Tina. Tina, this is Buffy, Willow and Giles." Xander
said. With the introductions made, the five of them went into the lounge to
get to know each other.
"Hello?" Joyce answered the phone.
"Hi. Can I speak to Buffy please?" a man asked.
"I'm sorry, but she isn't here. Can I take a message?"
"No, I'll call her later. When does she get back?" the man asked.
"Wednesday morning. Are you sure you don't want to leave a message?"
Joyce inquired.
"No, it can wait. I'll call back Wednesday. Thank a lot. Bye." he said
before hanging up. Joyce hung up and went into the lounge room. She looked at
Spike who was watching the midday soap.
"Did I miss anything?" Joyce asked Spike.
"Not really. They've taken the baby to the day care centre where Sara
works." Spike told her. She sat down and together they watched what Giles
privately called 'The Young and The Clueless'.
Trent hung up the phone. He then dialled the number for the Chief
Watcher.
"Sir, it's Trent. Wednesday is the go day." Trent informed the Chief
Watcher.
"Good. Is everything ready?"
"Yes sir. By Thursday night, the Slayers Council will cease to exist."
The road to Creswell was winding and narrow. Occasionally, they would
glimpse the waters of Jervis Bay. Giles looked back and saw the smile on
Tina's face as she looked out at her new home. Giles then looked at Xander.
Xander had grown into fine man. A good man for Buffy and Willow, and a
fine father to Jenny. Xander had become a very responsible person, yet still
kept the goofy humour of the boy Giles first met in Sunnydale. Always putting
others before himself, Giles could see that it would be the same for Tina.
It was at this moment that Giles decided that Xander should be Tina's
new Watcher. Giles could think of none better.
The car slowed as they entered the gates to the base. The car stopped
to allow a mob of kangaroos hop lazily across the road. Tina was thrilled to
see them so close and snapped away with the camera that Xander had given her.
The car pulled up at Trinity House where Joyce stood on the verandah.
They got out of the car and Buffy went up to her Mum.
"Hey Mom. Where's Spike?" Buffy asked.
"He said that he didn't want to be near the new Slayer until she was
perfectly clear not to stake him. He's gone back to Sydney." Joyce said. She
looked at the young girl coming up the steps.
"You must be Tina. I'm Joyce. Buffy's mother."
"Hello. This is a beautiful place you have here." Tina said. Joyce
smiled graciously.
"Come in and I'll show you around. Buffy and the others can get the
bags." Joyce said as the two entered the house. Buffy went back to the car to
help with the bags.
Out on the calm waters, two men sat in a boat. They saw the car enter
the base and guessed that everyone would be inside. The shorter of the two
made a call on a mobile.
"Sir, it's Trent. We are in position and the Slayers have arrived."
"Good. Kill the Slayers and start the operation against the Slayer's
Council."
"Yes sir." Trent said hanging up the phone. He looked at his companion.
"Go it." Trent said. The other man picked up the rocket launcher. The
warhead was of the Fuel-Air type which was designed to smash bunkers. He took
aim at the large windows of the house.
Xander's senses screamed at him in warning of some danger. He dropped
the bags and looked around wildly. There! In that boat. Two men were...
"GET DOWN!" Xander yelled as he crash tackled Willow to the ground.
The rocket slammed into the window and exploded inside the house. The force
of the explosion demolished the house and set the front door crashing into
Giles.
Their was a moment of stunned silence as the wreckage of the house
fell to earth. The silence was broken by Buffy's scream.
"MOM!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!"
