OT: What I hope is a new kind of Challenge
Greetings,
Yup, still hammering at Forge.. Promise.
I was just taking a break though and filtering some older fanfics.
I've noticed a plethora of 'Buffy Gets Vamped' fics.
Usually this end up with her becoming some sort of incredibly powerful
monster as the author cites the combination of vampiric strength with
Slayer powers.
More often than not these wind up as kill fests. Which is fine.
But this lead me to thinking, and being the incredibly dangerous thing
that is, my thought led me to thus:
Given that 'A Slayer' is a force for Light, and it is eveninced by
such things as Slayer Strength, Slayer Speed, Stamina and, of course,
Slayer Wit is can be easilly surmised that there is an outside Element
added to the Mortal shell to cause these changes. A Catalyst so to
speak.
Add that too..
A Vampire is a force for Dark. And this is also shown with Vampric
Speed, Strength, Dentures etc..ad infinitum. Once again we have an
outside force, another Catalyst that is added to the mortal frame to
cause these changes. Often refered too(Somehwhat carelessly IMHO) as
'The Demon'.
So, we have to Outside Catalysts that alter a mortal physioligy, and
most likely their mental and spirtual one as well. (Slayers:A little
more..alive. Buffy is many things but disspassionate is not one of
them. Vamps: Much colder, no sense of morals. Children basically.)
These two catalyts are diametrically opposed to each other, so what
would happen if both these agents of Power find themselves locked into
one mortal coil?
Do they combat? Causing the poor person to be driven mad as one Aspect
gains an upper hand for a brief moment before the other side wrestles
control away?
Do they annhilate each other? The image of an unopposable force
striking an immovable object comes to mind.(whatever that looks like.)
causing said Mortal coil to be reduced to a mere mortal or even spread
out all over the road?
Or is something new made? Something Grey. With all, none, more,
less..something never seen before and what exactly would that be?
This is not an easy thing to concieve of. Maybe I'll look into it
myself but I'm busy. I'm hoping someone snaps it up.
What does this have to do with Shippyness? Having an emotional anchor
could make, or break this..combined entity..saving all..or destroying.
Something like this could easilly go either way. This is not easy
though, real looking into the Powers behind the Catalysts and maybe
the disturbing realization that Light and Dark are not so diffrent
after all.
And no, under no circumstanes is anyone allowed to use the line "The
needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many." Brrrrr..
I remain, as always,
Mad-Hamlet
