Chapter 2: Perfection

She walks slightly slumped as she makes her way through the VIP
lounge at Manchester Airport she has just landed after the long
flight from Hong Kong to London with a connection to Manchester. She
doesn't bother to check her baggage, since she had everything she
needed in her small carryall bag. She's wearing a dark gray business
suit, her closet back home was filled them, all lined up in a neat
rows, black heals make a clicking sound against the tiled floor of
the terminal building.

Once she steps outside she straightens up and smiles at the man
waiting for her, he is an elderly gentleman both tall and handsome
despite his years with silver hair. He carries a prideful air about
himself. They hug briefly before breaking apart. They've known each
other for a long time now, as friends, as teacher and student, father
and daughter. Buffy and Giles, Giles and Buffy, Watcher and Slayer.

She has at this point achieved the only thing no other Slayer in
history has ever attained, she's has Perfection, as the only Slayer
to reach maturity and the only one to retire from the fight. She now
lives in Tokyo along with her sister Dawn and their two cats Twinkle
and Black Cat. But when the call came she had, like a good girl,
packed her overnight bag and booked a first class ticket on the first
flight out. Leaving Dawn to her studies and parties.

They don't speak much, both comfortable with silence in their lives.
Their destination is a small mansion not far from London; it is
located among trees belonging to a forest replanted a hundred years
prior to shield it from the outside world. It's a hermit's home since
nobody goes there and perhaps that's for the best, what happens there
is not for the weak of heart to witness.

Perhaps more than an observation is needed to fully understand this
latest arrival on the stage, the elder gentleman will have to wait
for a better time. Her name is Buffy Anne Summers and she is perhaps
the most powerful being to walk the Earth at this given time. The
years have tempered her fires somewhat and made her stalwart and
silent, she has been transformed through fire and hardships into a
woman of character and perhaps prejudice. To her the world is black
and white, it makes life easier and the losses she has endured
tolerable.

The car speeds down the motorway and soon they have left the city
behind them and the landscape is made up of fields, rolling green
hills and the odd tree streaks by them as they drive on towards their
place of meeting. The silence stretches on between them, it doesn't
matter the only thing they can talk about is the only thing they
don't wish to discuss. They are of the Four, prophesized and
foretold, their battles are all but over but the war rages, in the
fight between good and evil, darkness and light neither can win, the
balance may shift but neither side can be fully destroyed, no matter
how zealous it's warriors may be. The Mansion looms ahead and it
starts to rain, the other two will be there shortly and the usual
arguments are bound to arise. They always do, it is just the way
things are and the world continues to flow around them.

To be continued?
