Chapter 3: The Gentleman

Summary: Set after the serie's end, kind of hard to put into words 
really.

Chapter 3: The Gentleman

My name is Rupert Giles, there is a sir in front of that now, not 
that it matters much to me these days. I wonder if it has ever 
mattered. I feel hurled towards another meeting of our little society 
of movers and shakers. As the elder statesman of the group its 
meetings have always been held at my ancestral home here among the 
hills of Northern England. These meetings are often filled with 
extremes, bitterness and anger over what has transpired and happiness 
and joy over seeing each other anon. We have all suffered losses in 
our lives, but we also deal with them in different ways. Some of us 
like Alexander do the human thing we accept the loss and move on, 
others sadly never let go.

I chose to move away, to retire to my old haunting grounds to better 
keep an eye out for our most volatile member. My life is calmer now, 
my Slayer is grown and there are many more out there today, the world 
changes and the Flow as Willow calls it moves on. 

I'm fetching my charge of all these years from the airport for the 
upcoming meeting. Buffy has grown into the woman I always saw in her, 
although I don't approve with some of the choices she has made over 
the course of the last few years. I still love her as a daughter and 
she is perhaps the one of us that has changed the least. She still 
smiles and is still so firmly rooted in her opinions of the world. 
But this has driven a wedge between her and Willow and Alexander. Why 
aren't you hearing my story? Well my story would be of little 
interest to you, I'm not the star of this show, look upon me as more 
of a guide. So we'll talk after the meeting, perhaps I can then help 
explain some things that will undoubtedly weigh heavy upon your mind.
