no R2 wont play on R1 dvd players, you need to have either a player
that can be region unlocked by the remote control or with third party
mod chip.

as for the shipping, there is no reason that you cannot buy from who
you want, Amazon are quite happy to ship R1 dvds to Australia, its a
free market.

have a look at http://www.ezydvd.com.au

both Season 1 and 2 were filmed on 16mm film, yes its dark and grainy
in places but way better quality than the video tape version, anyway
the dark grainy look I quite like, adds to the atmosphere of Buffy,
what! you want it to look like Baywatch? ;-)

season 1 AUS$79.95 rrp, season 2 is AUS$149.95 rrp, it can be cheaper
at the department stores like KMart when they have their 15% off
sales, but not sure if they ship to the USA
http://online.kmart.com.au/

season 3 due around November

the other problem you might have is that region 2 and 4 dvds are
encoded in Pal not NTSC, if you have a reasonably new tv then that
should not be problem.

I think I read the reason that Buffy is not dvd in the USA yet is
because it is still being syndicated by your networks

hope that helps
