Re: OT: News

Michael,

Well, like you say, the WB has the right not to air the episode and even
though they'd hate to eat $1M+ worth of license fee networks do keep
lots of programs unaired (usually eps of shows that were cancelled due
to poor ratings), so there's a budgetary allowance for that. And not
only would Joss, David and Tim not want to lose the ep for continuity
reasons, I'm sure the performers (and maybe writer, director, etc.) lose
money if it isn't shown (although I've never been able to get my actor
friends to clearly explain residuals). So there's a financial incentive
on both sides to reach a compromise.

The WB may not have the right to interfere with content, but they still
try to (the shows are what they're selling, after all). Joss had to
threaten to quit to get them to air the W/T kiss in "The Body", which
couldn't have helped the atmosphere re: contract talks. And that was
such a revolutionary, risque kiss, too: two characters in a long-term
relationship in a moment of grief. Hey, now that Buffy's dead, I bet
the WB would let them kiss again!

I basically think that since Joss and Marti were essentially
anticipating this back in May, they won't resort to guerrilla tactics to
get it in, Marti did say that they had had one planned, but they'll
just have to cross a guest-star or something, instead. And I still
think that while you don't have to have them for their own sake (much as
I would love to see Gunn meet the Scoobs, or something), it would show a
lot of class for them to let Boreanaz take part in the resurrection. I
mean, Angel, Buffy, she returns from the dead. If not now, when?
(Well, never, I guess. Boo!)

Dan

I saw these statements earlier and I'm sure that he doesn't want any crossovers but can he really stop them? After all, both Buffy and Angel are still produced by Fox, not by Warner Brothers. All the WB has are the rights to show Angel but I doubt they have any creative input whatsoever. Just a thought.

WB CHIEF DEFINITELY KILLS "BUFFY"/"ANGEL" CROSSOVERS

Jordan Levin, during the Television Critics Association press tour, said
flatly that there will be no crossovers, which Joss Whedon and Marti
Noxon had said was likely as far back as May. Levin added some hogwash
about "Angel" needing to develop its own identity, but the reason is
obviously R*E*V*E*N*G*E. Why Levin wants to cause problems with Joss
when he's just renewed "Angel" is unknown, but inside sources (okay,
it's just me, lying) say not to rule out the possibility that Levin is
really, really stupid.

So, basically, when Buffy comes back from the dead, Angel won't go see
her. And you think you have trouble getting your ex to stay friends.
