Re: OT: Delievery Issues
There's a new virus going around that's screwed up the whole damn net. It's
not just the list.
Here's a copy of the virus warning I got on another list on Sept. 18.
*******************
It's a new virus that's slowing the web. They've named it the Nimda virus,
or rather, it's a worm like Code Red.
This isn't a hoax; it's verified on several sites including Symantec, makers
of Norton Anti-Virus software. If you have Norton, have a virus definition
available as of about an hour ago (3:30 p.m. on the west coast). You can
find it here: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.nimda.a@xxxxxxx
It's another e-mail virus, this one with a .eml attachment (and it looks to
be PC only, again. I think we Mac types are safe.). Don't open .eml or any
other suspicious attachment.
It's got other ways of attacking, however. You can download infected files
from websites, so I'd suggest you restrict any kind of downloading for a day
or two. And it can spread itself on networks. If you're on a company
backbone, you're at risk. The CNN article suggests not surfing the web
tonight because there is a chance you can download the virus.
The virus was first spotted at about 6 a.m. and has spread rapidly since
then.
Here's CNN's info:
