FIC: Destiny's End 4/?

TITLE: Destiny's End 4/?

SUMMARY: Final in Terra/Trinity/Destiny series. Buffy, Willow, Xander face 
the final battle. The battle to end destiny. Sequel to Terra Australis 
Incognito, and Trinity's Child. 
SPOILERS: None really. AU. 
RATING: R (suggested sexual situations [no smut]) and language (if I lived on 

the Hellmouth I'd swear more too). 


Destiny's End 4/? 

"OK, we're here to fight The Twelve, so what do we know about them?" Buffy 
asked Professor Alibek.

"The Twelve, from what we know are a group of ultra powerful demons who were 
prophesied to fight the last battle between good and evil. They are here to 
bring back the Old Ones and return Earth to its former Hell like state. They 
have built a fortress in the forests of what used to be Southern Russia and 
have gathered demons and vampires to form an army.

"It was promised that The Powers That Be would send their greatest warriors 
to save mankind. They would send Trinity. That is why you were locked away in 
the Black Opal for all these years. To fight that final battle to either save 
or destroy all mankind."

"So once again we have to avert an Apocalypse. Just great." Buffy grumbled.

"I don't think you get what this means Buffy. Win or loose, there will be no 
more Apocalypse's to avert. No more girls will be called to become the 
Slayer, no more battles between good and evil. This is the end of destiny 
itself." Professor Alibek told her.

Buffy, Willow, and Xander thought about what they had been told. For as long 
as they could remember, they had fought a seemingly unending battle against 
evil. But now they were faced with the prospect of fighting the final battle. 
Destiny's end.

"So, when do we leave Doc?" asked Xander.

"Not for a while yet. Winter is just coming to an end here which means that 
it will be soon winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Nothing can be done during 
winter, especially travelling. You see, The Twelve have placed a protective 
force surrounding the fortress they are in. For a radius of about 1000 
kilometres around the fortress technology begins to fail. The closer you get 
to the fortress the more primitive the weapons and technology you can use. It 
gets to a point where you are down to using swords, bows and horses. Hence 
you need several weeks of good weather to travel to the fortress." Buffy 
turned and looked to Xander and Willow.

"Looks like we've got a couple of months to get back into the groove after a 
couple of centuries worth of holidays. Think we're up to the challenge guys?"

"For a chance to end it all, you bet we're ready." Xander replied, the idea 
that this would be the last battle appealed to him.

"Let's kick some evil demon ass!" Willow enthused.

It was at this point that the evil demon attacked.

A grey blur raced out of the trees towards them. With her Slayer speed and 
reflexes, Buffy was able to doge its charge, but the others were knocked to 
the ground. Buffy saw the demon that had attacked them. 

It was a large, grey crab like creature with razor sharp claws and a mouth 
full of ugly pointed teeth. Buffy kicked out at one of the creatures legs in 
an attempt to smash it. However, the creatures hard shell which covered its 
body was like steel and all Buffy did was hurt her foot.

The demon reared back, ready to strike out at Buffy, when something smashed 
into it. The demon was sent flying into a tree, smashing it into match 
sticks. To Buffy's unending relief, Willow was up and using her Witch-Fu on 
the creature. Fire, bolts of lightning, objects smashed into the creature who 
struggled to get up.

Before anyone could react, the creature leapt at Willow, knocking her to the 
ground and spearing her through the chest with one of its legs. Blood sprayed 
from her mouth as Buffy and Xander screamed an inhuman sound and charged into 
try and save their soulmate.

They never made it.

>From above them, a humanoid shape descended with great force on the creature, 
snapping the leg with pinned Willow. It kicked the creature across the 
clearing and attacked it with a huge sword, slashing and hacking the creature 
until it quivered then lay still. Had Buffy and Xander looked at the thing 
that had killed the creature, they would have found out that it was a trainee 
Slayer in a robotic Slayer-suit. But all their attention was focused on 
Willow.

They were in a panic. Willow was badly hurt. One look at the wound told them 
that she would probably not make it. Frantic that they were loosing her, 
Buffy screamed at Professor Alibek.

"For god's sake, her us!"

Professor Alibek calmly walked to where Willow lay.

"It's OK, she's going to be fine. See?" she said and removed Xander's hand 
from Willow wound.

To Buffy and Xander's amazement, the wound was closing before their eyes. In 
less than 3 minutes, the wound was gone and, other than feeling a little 
weak, Willow was fine.

"What kind of magic was that?" Buffy asked in awe. The Professor shook her 
head.

"It wasn't magic." she said.

"Then what happened?" Xander wanted to know. Professor Alibek sighed. She 
really didn't want to explain it this soon.

"You remember how I told you about that virus that attacked DNA of 
unprotected humans? You three are unprotected humans, and the virus is still 
around."

"You mean we're going to die? I don't understand!"

"No! Quite the opposite in fact. We knew that when you three returned we 
would have to find a way of protecting you from the virus. In the end we 
developed nano-bots which could attack the virus in your body and repair the 
damage done to your cells and DNA. They were injected into your bodies after 
you were retrieved from the opal. The up side is that your healing abilities 
is massively increased as you have seen.

"The down side is that with your DNA being constantly repaired, you will 
never get sick, never grow old and, end of the world aside, you will never 
die.

"Until the end of the universe, you will live your lives as the only three 
immortal humans."
