I cut out a lot of Dan's post that I didn't think
was relevant to what I'm going to throw out, but
another thought concerning Spike occured to me
while watching Becoming-pt. 1 last night. Could
Spike be obsessed with Buffy because he's jealous
of Angel?

As a side note, I've never seen any of season 3,
so I only know bits and pieces from what I've
read about it, and therefore may be way off base
depending upon what happens in Becoming-pt. 2 and
the rest of season 3. Anyway, in the first part
of Becoming, it almost seems like Spike could be
a little jealous of Angel, bad Angel that is, and
Dru. Angel and Dru did share a lot of warm
fuzzies (in a sadistic, vampiric way of course)
right in front of Spike. Or maybe it's kinda
like a child wanting to one-up their parents
(again in a weird, twisted, undead way). Angel
is, after all, Spike's sire.

I'm not saying jealousy of Angel is THE
motivating factor in his obsession with Buffy.
Maybe it could even be a subconscious thing with
Spike. Again, I'm not up on the Spike/Angel
history or background, but maybe jealousy factors
in a little somewhere, along with any number of
other factors we've all touched on.

Just tossing out thoughts.
