Re: "Seduction" and Fire--SPOILERS for "Gone" (long)

Kathy,

Glad to see I wasn't totally clueless on the subject, although I'm sorry
to hear what you had to go through. Certainly, denial happens, even in
ways one wouldn't expect. Heck, Elton John married a woman; anything's
possible.

I don't know that a B/W arc would necessarily portray B/S as a CONSCIOUS
avoidance/denial mechanism, though. I have a feeling that Buffy would
have a realization moment about her sexuality, rather than simply coming
out and saying she's known for a while, but been in the closet. Even
though I can make a pretty good case (based on a lot of Season 1 stuff)
for Buffy being gay and always having known it (as opposed to
blossoming-bi Willow), I don't think the show would take that route. As
the protagonist, we're supposed to be getting an honest look at her
emotions--and she's certainly been capable of lying to herself about
her emotions before?

So I don't think it's an act when Spike touches her and she moans, even
though you're right about it being a little quick reaction for a hand on
a jean-clad thigh. Maybe her subconscious has done a number on her
conscious: "you crave Spike; you can't resist him", and that's why she
overreacts to physical stimuli and initiates sex after not wanting to be
around him. She's certainly lying to herself about SOMETHING--even the
B/Sers have her in denial. Hopefully, it's the "right" kind of denial
(quotation marks because I know it's never actually a good thing?).

Finally, I've bitched before about how Buffy this year is more like the
BuffyBot (all over Spike, no human emotions), but I just noticed how
much the BuffyBot was like this relationship. Spike didn't program it
to say "I love you" or "hey, take it easy, Tiger; it's just a good
fuck"; he had her going "oh, Spike, devour me!" and "darn your sinister
attraction!" The Buffy of his dreams, his built-to-order Buffy was THIS
Buffy, a Buffy who hated being with him, but was a slave to her physical
lusts. (Albeit in her chipper, BuffyBot way) I find that interesting.
