Ah, Zephyr, this was good stuff.
I'm glad you liked it! I'm still trying to decide whether there should be
a sequel. There's something in me that's drawn to a bittersweet ending,
but I might manage to persuade it to let Willow and Buffy be
happy. Eventually. After lots of time-travely angst. And a few people dying.

Nice to see someone else who's pissed off about that craptacular present
Greenberg had Willow give Buffy.
BUFFY
Will, it's okay. You're the best present you could give me.
WILLOW
Aww, Buffy. But I still feel kinda bad. I mean, an electric back
massager? What was I thinking?
BUFFY

I dunno, but I'm thinking you could show me the old-fashioned way...
They KISS. The camera zooms out as they move into a more passionate
embrace, then...

ZEPHYR
Wow, they must have gotten Fury to do that ep after all.
He looks down and sees that he's in bed, then looks at the CLOCK, which
reads 7:03 in red glowing digits.
ZEPHYR
Damn.
Not to mention that Willow does the Wish demon bit properly, having
Buffy wear the pendant and granting the Wish instantly.
To give credit where it is due, my being careful about the wishing was
partly inspired by your reviews of Older and Far Away over at JAABAW and
elsewhere (or at least one place that was else--ScoopMe, I think.) I
haven't gotten around to setting up a posting account at JAABAW yet,
procrastinator that I am, but I'm a dedicated lurker. I was also a little
put off by the handling of the new vengeance--excuse me, justice--demon,
half-wreck. So: giving of the talisman, check; instant change in reality,
check; service for a wronged woman (Buffy) against the one who wronged her
(Willow, at least in her mind,) check. Her little bleach-to-dust act
wasn't an "official" act of demony vengeance; she just really didn't like
Spike.
Of course, I have to wonder about the time paradox--Buffy's non-return
will keep Willow from chanting up D'Hoffryn and she won't have the
impetus to use the power that created the reality to begin with--but
that's standard scifi stuff.
Quite true, and The Wish did it as well. A Cordelia who lived in a reality
where there was no Buffy in Sunnydale would never have cause to meet Anya
and wish that Buffy had never come to Sunnydale.
Of course, in this case it is an action performed by Willow herself that is
being undone, so it's not quite the same. Anya apparently still remembers
both the '"real" world and the Wishverse. In essence, she was outside of
the situation, so I guess the paradox didn't apply.
Ah, well; magic works in mysterious ways. But if I do a sequel, I'll be
sure to at least try to explain the matter :)
And a beautiful echo of "Becoming, Part 2" and Buffy taking two steps
back as she sends Angel to hell, with Willow doing the same to send
Buffy to heaven. Just wonderful stuff.
Delighted,
Dan
