Re: FF: Two Steps Back (1/1)
Kirayoshi,
(and, yes, the week's worth of Spoiler Space for "Older and Far Away"
ended on Tuesday)
Well, I don't know about Willow giving her magic gifts--the only other
birthday present we've seen Willow give her is the dress she and Tara
got Buffy in "Blood Ties". (While Willow organized the surprise parties
in "Surprise" and "A New Man", we didn't see a gift on either occasion.)
The spell in "Gingerbread" may have been Willow trying something new,
since that was the first birthday Buffy had celebrated since Willow
started practicing magic. After that, however, Buffy seems unimpressed
by the protection pouch in "Bad Girls" and disses Willow's abilities in
"Fear, Itself" and magic generally in "Pangs". So I don't know that
Willow would give Buffy magic. In "Listening to Fear", she bought her
the yo-yo--which I found very sweet, since we hadn't seen Buffy's yo-yo
since "Some Assembly Required" and "School Hard", three years
previously, but Willow remembered.
OTOH, Willow and Tara were working on that "artificial sunlight" spell
in "Triangle" and "Checkpoint", so maybe the dress in "Blood Ties" was
just a last-minute idea after the two witches couldn't get the spell to
work. So maybe she was thinking magic this year, after all. (Although
she'd had more than 32 days to come up with a "Plan B" on the gift.
What can I say? I just like to think that Willow could come up with
something that provokes a more sincere reaction than "Thanks. Great.")
Thinking about this waaaaaaaaaaaay too much,
Dan
