>It's so inconsistent, there are storylines set up and then picked up
three or four episodes later, or not at all.

Yeah, had to love all that Anya/Dawn tension this week. Oh, wait, there
wasn't any. Gee, that would be like Buffy having a total breakdown over
her relationship with Spike one week and then barely blinking when he's
in her house, hitting on her in front of all the people she's terrified
will hate her, the next.

In December, I complained that we had the finances subplot in "Flooded"
and "Life Serial" and then it totally vanished. Someone on a board
sneered at me, telling me it would be back in "Doublemeat Palace". Gee,
I never knew you were supposed to drop subplots cold for seven eps and
hope the audience remembers them.

Likewise, why couldn't Dawn have been show shoplifting in "Gone" or
"Dead Things"? She's already acting out. Instead, they have her steal
in "All the Way" and "OMWF" and then nothing until seven eps later in
"Older and Far Away".

And if Amy is going to go all big Bad on us, shouldn't she have put in
an appearance in the last 3 eps? No major bad has ever taken 3 straight
eps off.

(There was a bit of a winter break in Season 3, but they kept Faith and
the Mayor around often enough that you never forgot who they were:

"Band Candy"--Mayor
"Revelations"--Faith
"Lovers Walk"--Mayor
"The Wish"--neither (Faith mentioned)
"Amends"--Faith
"Gingerbread"--Mayor
"Helpless"--neither (Faith mentioned)
"The Zeppo"--Faith
"Bad Girls--both of them, and they only skip "Earshot" and "The Prom"
the rest of the way. )

>It really makes me appreciate Season 4.

Well, there Xander's resentment at being the left-behind "townie" takes
a 15-ep break from "Beer Bad" to "The Yoko Factor", but they do keep
better track of B/R, W/T, the Initiative/Adam and Spike's changing
situation than they do with this year's plots.

Dan

PS--good luck with your AP test results.
