Actually, I think what really happened is that they went on a big
shopping spree, and blew a big wad of Giles's check right there. That's
why we keep seeing new, expensive clothes--it's all from a big splurge
they had in November.  

Makes Buffy's comment about her "stylish-yet-affordable boots" in "OMWF"
interesting, no? Perhaps she was trying to convince Giles that she
hadn't done what she actually had with the money.
