Amber Benson made 18 appearances last year. She was in only 6 of the
first 10 (the first "half" of the season"), skipping "The Replacement",
"No Place Like Home", "Fool For Love" and "Into the Woods", but she was
in every ep on the back half. Perhaps they had originally planned to
give her some of the later episodes off, too, and then upped her
appearances; I don't know.

This year, she's signed for 16, but they had her in all 10 of the first
half, but only 6 of the final 12. So it does look like a conscious
effort to decrease her presence on the show--she was in 22 consecutive
eps (from "Triangle" through "Wrecked") and then had two straight eps
off (for the first time ever), for instance.
