Nope, you sure weren't imagining it. They goofed there, changing the 
birthdates around, and what grade she was in. And then they changed it again 
later on in that season when they showed in 'Nightmares', on her tombstone, 
that she was indeed born in 1981. I think maybe the 1980 thing came from them 
wanting to make her 16 when the show started. But the show only premiered in 
1997, although they did film the entire first season in 1996.

So it's basically just a goof up production wise I guess.
