Re:_::BuffyWantsWillow::_OT_Question—minor corrections
Hey there Dan! ^_^
Wow, two de-lurks in one month--this has gotta be a record or something for me! <*wink*>
To offer another possible "caboose" for Tara's train of thought in the 'Blood Ties' quote, when I'd heard it I instantly thought she was inferring that "some of (her) best--" birthdays had been boy less (or boy "friend" less). The solitary inference never popped to mind-- maybe cuz I've always had the impression of Tara as having come from a too often lonely past (that she *really* didn't want to return to) so I'm hoping that her "best memories" would include companionship. And her trailing off when she saw Dawn there would fit in with all the other times the gang have tried to shield the Dawnster from any and all Sapphic love fests and/or inferences, such as Xander's 'rantlet' in "Once More With Feeling" (after W had T 'under her spell')(or-- um-- just, under her, as the case may be). Yippers, a fave Willow & Tara moment, there. ^_^
That said, I still would luv to see Willow and Buffy get together, but in my sparkly little "Kumbaya" world Tara would move on to another shiny, happy, "Lesbian, Gay-type" relationship, perhaps running the "Wiccan Womyn's Co-op/Vegan Collective/Animal Rescue Shelter on the outskirts of Sunnydale where she and her new partner will host the occasional potluck/movie night with the Scoobs (primarily Buffy & Willow of course)(And perhaps Xander and his new boyfriend "Olaf the troll" since they have so much in common now, i.e. exes of Anyanka and a shared love of large, manly 'power' tools <*wink*>).
But thats just me. ^_^
Back to lurk mode now--have a good one y'all!

And here's the transcript of "Blood Ties":
Buffy: Maybe it's time to start a new tradition. Birthdays without
boyfriends. It could be just as much fun.
Willow: Preaching to the choir, here, baby!
Tara: Yeah, some of my best?
(at this point she sees Dawn and breaks off)
Subtext analysis:
<more snippage> IMO,
Tara takes Buffy's words as expressing an interest in staying single
(about the only good sentence I can come up with for her line is "some
of my best birthdays were when I was single."), but Willow takes Buffy's
comment about being man-free as a chance to express solidarity with
Buffy. And, of course, Willow's own moving beyond boyfriends has
entailed moving TO a girlfriend, so by claiming she's doing what Buffy
is talking about, Willow implies that the natural result of Buffy's
post-Riley emotions would be for Buffy to embrace lesbianism.
So Buffy talks about cutting men out of her life, for good. Willow
thinks she means going gay (which Will supports and even encourages),
but Tara seems to think Buffy is considering celibacy.
Dan
doing a lot of reading into three little lines, I admit
