Sorry for the short update. I just got off of a twelve and a half hour shift at work. I promise more of the story soon!

IV. 

After Riley left, the three friends settled in for a long night of research. They went through a seemingly endless pile of books that had even the most vague reference to transformation. Pizza was consumed in great quantity, much to Giles? dismay. 

Buffy had very little spare time to think about Riley?s abandonment. She had known that he was unlikely to ride to her rescue, and to tell the truth, she wasn?t exactly sad about being right. Actually, the very thought of how the act would be performed between two men was enough to make her squirm in imagined discomfort. Anyway, for a couple of weeks now, she had been thinking that Riley was not a person that she would want to spend the rest of her life with. 

Around 8:30 that evening, Xander stopped by to see if he was needed for any slayage duties. He was introduced to ?Scott?, a UCS student doing a research paper on the occult. Buffy had decided that she didn?t want anyone else to know about the curse, especially Xander. The jokes would have been unbearable. 

Xander left about an hour later claiming early hours at the construction site he had just started working at. After he left, the others sat down and tried to decide what to do next. 

?Well, there is one good thing about all this,? Buffy said, a mischievous grin on her face. 

?What?s that, Buffy?? Giles asked, looking at her as if she was a bit insane. 

Exchanging a glance with Willow, she looked at Giles and said, ?I won?t be able to wear this outfit forever, so that means I get to go shopping!? She and Willow burst into laughter at the incredulous look on Giles? face. 

?It?s obvious that the change is only physical,? Giles said, shuddering at the reminder of the one and only shopping trip he had gone on with the girls. They had spent an entire day in Sunnydale?s mall, going from store to store, and abusing the credit cards given to them by their parents. He still had nightmares of that day over a year after the fact. 

Growing serious, Willow said, ?First we need to figure out what to do if we can?t break this curse. I mean, if Buffy stays a guy, we won?t be able to share a room anymore, unless we get an apartment off campus. I can imagine my parents letting that happen. No, really, this is a girl that just looks like a guy, Mom.? 

Buffy wondered at the stab of pain she felt at the thought of not being Willow?s roommate anymore. True, she had been out of the room a lot lately, but there was always the knowledge that Willow would be there when she went back. Shaking off the feeling, she focused on another problem? her mother. 

?It was bad enough when my mom found out I was the Slayer. Can you imagine the wiggins she?ll have when I show up at the door looking like this?? 

?Look,? Giles said, ?I think we should all get a good night?s sleep and stop worrying about this for now. You both have classes in the morning. Buffy, how are you going to handle that?? 

?Well, I thought I would just keep being ?Scott?, Buffy?s cousin who?s helping out while Buffy has the flu or something. I think most of the professors will buy it.? 

?Good idea. Willow, you can take the spare room, and Buffy can have the couch.? 

After getting spare linens from the closet, Buffy, Willow, and Giles all made their way to their beds.
