Well the thing is, from the ending of 'Spiral' on Buffy wasn't thinking as
the Slayer, she was thinking as Buffy. Not as a superhero who needed to save
the world, again, but as a person who lost their mother and was about to lose
their sister. So when Buffy leapt off the tower, she wasn't being selfish,
she was just being Buffy, not the Slayer. She was saving Dawn, and in turn,
saving the world. I think Joss really wanted us to think of Buffy as a hero
in 'The Gift', and then the whole arc about her friends ripping the 'hero'
out of heaven, pulling her away from the place that was her retribution for
saving the world so many times. The problem is that it never was elaborated
on this season, and it really should have. We're left with alot of questions
about both sides of the fence that probably will never get cleared up :(
