Re: Pissed-off Rant-NO SPOILERS

Dan,

Venting is good. It releases anger and lowers your blood pressure, and God knows, this season has been cause for both frustration and disappointment on the part of the fans. I'm as big a fan of angst as the next guy, but, come ON, if I want to be seriously depressed I'll just turn on CNN.

That being said, I remind myself that I watch the show (or any show, for that matter) because I like the characters, not the storylines. For me, the plots are incidental. If I honestly gave a rat's ass about the direction that the writers are taking the show, I would have stopped watching after season 4.

When I want a good story I go where the stories are, i.e. fan fiction, written by people who love the characters and the world they live in, and *listen* to the characters when they write about them. As an example, any Xena fans here? Ok. Anyone into Xena fic who *doesn't* know who Missy Good is? I didn't think so. (If you don't, go to http://merwolf.com/ffiction.html and knock yourself out. Bring food and drink, you're gonna be there a while. You might want to turn off the phone, as well, heh). Anyone who thinks Renpics did a better job of portraying the Warrior and the Bard? Anyone? Anyone at all? I rest my case. IMHO that's why this season is such a monumental suckfest. The writers are making the characters behave in ways that simply arenot *them*.

Granted, some things are beyond the writers' control. Tony Head wanting to spend more time with his family, for one. But does anyone honestly believe that Giles (the character) would have left the way he did? Or that, in thisday of instant communication, he would have no contact with the gang at all? I don't think so. The same can be said about the whole magick addiction fiasco. Willow has many facets to her personality, some good, some not so good, but a tendency to addiction is not one of them. (Personal experience here, a family member now deceased). An outside influence from the use of the dark stuff? Ok, that I'll buy, but getting hooked on the high of a magickrush? Yeah, right. Pull the other one. And don't get me started on the Spuffy thing. I just had lunch.

I won't go into my feelings about the upcoming eps in deference to those wanting to remain spoiler free (I'm totally spoiled, I *really* hate surprises, bad and good, being the slightly paranoid idiot that I am).

In any event, Dan, rant all you want. It'll make you feel better. Besides, you're so damn good at it <g>.
