Okay, the ep's still less than a week old,

Not a lot of cuts this week. I'm sorry to lose the vampire's line in
the teaser (when Spike is dangling him and says "he doesn't look like
much", that vamp's supposed to go "hey! hey!") but I can live without
it. Ditto Willow's "who's the bigger nerd?" line.

What I dislike losing is the end of the Buffy/Dawn shopping scene, which
seems to be the important part, where Buffy has to tug a distracted Dawn
out of the way, and Dawn practically jumps. The revelation that Dawn is
still scared of her, on whatever level, prompts Buffy's behavior in the
next scene (pancakes, etc.) and ties much tighter the theme of her
determination to make amends for "Normal Again".

Later, in the first "Willow on the computer" scene, when the Three
Musketeers (and hey, Three Musketeers scenes in back-to-back eps, after
the 56 ep wait! Cool, even if it wasn't as happy as the hug in "NA")
have decided that the Losers are likely responsible for the camera,
Willow and Buffy are supposed to theorize that Buffy had nearly found
them last week, and that's why the GGK'n demon was sicced on her.

Therefore, Buffy's determined "I want to find these guys" isn't about
avenging Katrina or doing her duty or being spied upon--it's about
blaming the Geeks for their part in the "I nearly killed the people I
love" fiasco from the week before. When Warren killed an innocent and
framed her for it, she was angry, but she didn't really get anything
done--but if he made her hurt Willow...watch out!! <G> Better theme,
better 'shippiness. Sorry to lose it.

Also the script confirms it's Jack Daniels in the bottle. Excuse me,
but Giles does NOT drink Sour Mash. He drinks Scotch (see "The Wish",
"Something Blue", "The Yoko Factor", and "The Dark Age"), Why he
doesn't drink gin, the downfall of the English race, I don't know, but
he sure doesn't drink Jack. Product placement?

Anyway, a couple of micro-Trio scenes were cut during Act 3. That red
light is supposed to start flashing while they're distracted by the
fire, and Andrew eventually notices it, amid the chaos. If you think
about it, there's really no reason for an alarm to go off just because
someone has hacked into the Magic Box camera (it's not the first camera
they accessed, it's not particularly important, and Willow hadn't traced
the signal to the lair yet). But they cut a couple of beats and had to
drop in the sound effect to cover.

The last major cut I agree with: when Buffy and Dawn are talking
outback, Dawn is sympathizing with her and she's supposed to go on about
how rough it must be for Buffy because Spike DUMPED her and Buffy takes
offense and points out (at length) that it was the reverse. It's funny,
but it blows the mood. Good slice.

Sadly, though, this means that the 'shippiness in that scene (Dawn says
it must be difficult having to lie to everybody--enter Willow,
inferentially the person Buffy is most guilty about lying to) is not in
the script, because there was supposed to be a chunk of dialogue in
between the two events, so conclusions drawn from that juxtaposition
would be a mistake. Darn.

Interestingly, in the final W/T scene, TARA is supposed to go to Willow,
not vice versa, so if DEM didn't like Willow's cross, she can't blame
Greenberg; it's not in the script.

I'm going to close with a SPOILER comment, so either goodbye and thanks
for reading, or you can

The very last line in the script, describing the W/T kiss, concludes
"...it is, above all else, love."

"Truly and forever."

So, yep, Tara's definitely going to die. Lay it on thick, eh, Drew?

(No need to insert my gripe about the impending Martyrdom of St. Tara
and how that'll cast a pall over any future Willow-'ships, as I'm sure
you know it by now. But that last line fits right in with my objection,
as you might have guessed.)

Dan

still willing to buy Tara a nice safe bus ticket out of town...

Good night, all.
