More on Seeing Red (Spoilery)

Spoilers for the ending of Seeing Red, nothing else.

I've been trying to figure out that shot since
Tuesday. I talked to someone I know at school, and
here's what we came up with:

1. The angle *was* wrong, but maybe not by too much.
Tara was in front of the window, Warren in the back
corner of the yard. It should have missed her by a
few feet and gone over her shoulder into the ceiling.

On the other hand, from the outside shots as I
remember them, Tara was looking down and to her *left*
at Buffy and Xander; the back right corner of the yard
might not have been so far out of alignment with the
window. It's still not great, but it's closer.

2. Taking her being hit as a given, the blood
spattering on Willow's chest rather than her face was
fine. While the bullet should have travelled more or
less in a straight line, the *blood*, which would not
have been traveling nearly as fast, would have arced
downward with gravity. And Will and Tara were
standing fairly far apart. So even with an
upward-travelling bullet, the blood would have
spattered about where it did.

3. The exit wound should have been much bigger than it
was, unless the bullet was armor-piercing. But maybe
it was just a non-gore censory thing.

4. "Your shirt," while not exactly heroic, worked
fairly well as a death line. Could have been
delivered better, but it has that whole "senselessness
of death" quality to it. A speech would have been
tacky.

5. They should have ducked. Speaking of which, do you
think that Xander's having ducked way before Buffy
thought to do so was because of his soldier training
or his deep-seated hiding and running away instinct?

6. Finally, while it's sort of interesting to see
someone actually using a gun on the show, we both
agreed that Tara's death should have been done
differently. We came up with a few ideas, some of
which were not completely unfounded ;) He suggested
she should have died defending Willow (heroic
approach.) I argued for death either by Willow's
hands and magic (*very* bad for the show, but would
make a good darkfic) or in defense of Buffy (the "she
knows who Willow's true love is" approach.) Whaddaya
think?

Yours in Wuffydom, I remain,

Jason Rune

(Who thinks that the Season 7 finale should consist of
the entire main cast becoming evil: Willow an evil
witch, Tara resurrected as undead, and everyone else
vamped or something. Giles would make a great master
vamp. Faith should then come back to stop them, but
be vamped by Buffy after a nice long fight and made
into her and Willow's pet. Then, Willow just needs to
open the hellmouth, and watch as the first thing that
comes out...

is Snyder.

The End.)
