Re: FF Children of the Earth (3/10)
Willow X,
Oh, goodness! And, oh, goodness, I love this fic! Thank you very much
for moving this up and not making us wait until the weekend.
So much good stuff, I'm just going to hit random points:
>I've never met anyone as pro-Gay as Dawn before.
:) Yeah, I guess I wasn't the only one who noticed that stuff in
"Seeing Red" (the Slayer Pride message board had pretty much signed her
up, too). There's a Key to that closet door, Dawnie, whenever you're
ready...
? Buffy waiting for Willow at the Bronze. Oh, yeah, it's "The I in
Team" payback time! Only Willow didn't bring Backstreet Riley and his
Boy-Band Commandos along, thank Joss!
? Buffy and Will crushing on each other's smiles. Aww.
? Working the "Normal Again" shooting script joke in (and not at all
forced, either). Very cute.
? Sheryl Crow's "I Shall Believe". Okay, I know I've seen this on TV
or in a movie, but where? I did a search on Google and found out it was
in an ep of "Roswell", but I don't watch "Roswell". Unless they were
running the promo during Buffy and playing the song? Good song, btw.
? B/W dancing for everyone to see. Aww, again.
>Had she left me dead, I would never have known how it felt to hold her
in my arms
(Warning! The following three paragraphs contain a SPOILER for "Grave".
Skip ahead, if need be.)
I spent this whole year hoping that the whole journey through the tunnel
of dreary Spuffy-grunting was to move something forward, somehow. To
bring us something new. Silly me, I even thought EvilWillow would be
the catharsis for Willow (or someone) to break through to their truer
self. Didn't have to be B/W smoochies, just something. Anything to
make this year serve a purpose.
Instead, all we did was go from "I can't lose Dawn" to "I want to be
alive, with Dawn". Yawn. What. A. Waste.
In contrast, you make the season serve a purpose with just one line.
Marti Noxon should be arrested for stealing the money, if it's that easy
to do it right.
>This woman standing before me was my life.
Okay, I'm a sap. That's all right, Ro made these lists, and he's a sap,
too. If we wanted violence and pain as the predominant colors in our
'ship, we'd probably be 'shipping something else.
*Buffy's vamp radar going on overdrive. Mmm, plot points, deftly worked
into the comedy.
>"Spike and his Nancy-boy accent"
Interesting how Spike hates being English, no? (See "Tabula Rasa"). He
really has the self-loathing deep in his bones, which is probably why he
tries so hard to be everything William wasn't. Why he needs a "goddess"
to follow, to give him purpose. Oh, and I think having Buffy switch
teams right after B/S finally hooked up should spur him nicely. A
chipectomy now should move things quite well
>Everything you do takes my breath away, Willow.
Did I mention about being a sap yet?
? SuaveWillow, sucking at being cool. I bellowed when Buffy toppled
over, pants around the ankles. And then right into a very hot bit of
hotness, meow!
? Warren, actually worried that Buffy would catch him. (Nice change
from this year, again.) Jettisoning his Geek Chorus definitely makes
the story more potent. (Yeah, yeah, I know, they're a joke so Buffy
won't take them seriously, because she needs to "grow up". Shut UP,
Marti!)
? Faith with the prophetic dreams. Always good for fics--you don't
have to worry about Eliza's film schedule.
Did I mention about loving this fic? Did I mention it enough!
More! (now that you've proven you don't need a week, I'm just going to
be a pest :) )
Dan
