SUBTERFUGE (28/?)


Giles opened the door, not at all surprised to see his slayer standing there. 
Buffy looked at him, looking so much older than her twenty years. He sighed 
as he opened his arms, the girl rushing forward and hugging him tightly. He 
stroked her hair as he whispered, "It's going to be okay, Buffy."


Buffy sniffled, allowing the tears to flow as she pulled back, giving him a 
wry smile, "How can it, Giles? How can it be okay?"


"I don't know," he admitted, wiping away a tear with his thumb as he said, 
"But we'll find a way."


She laughed softly, moving into his apartment as he shut the door. She looked 
at him, "Sorry about this," she gestured at her face, feeling rather silly to 
have been crying. "It's just, I've been thinking about it the entire way here 
and it just seemed so overwhelming."


"I assumed you've spoken to Willow," Giles said as he sat back down.


"Yeah," Buffy said, sitting on the sofa with her legs tucked under her. She 
drew her bottom lip into her mouth as her eyes grew thoughtful. Finally, she 
smiled shyly as she said, "Willow loves me."


"I know," Giles said, giving her a small smile.


Buffy's eyes clouded over as she continued, "And Glory is after her. Did 
Willow tell you everything? Do you know what she did?"


"Yes, she told me," he said, running a hand over his face. "It wasn't the 
smartest thing she's ever done."


"She did it for me, to help me," Buffy defended before groaning, "that's what 
makes it worse, you know? I can't even really be angry with her because she 
was trying to help me. But, I am angry, Giles. It's been weeks and she never 
told me."


"She was scared, Buffy," Giles pointed out, not able to defend the redhead's 
actions but also wanting his slayer to understand that the girl hadn't been 
acting with bad intentions.


"I know that," Buffy said, making a face. "I just feel like she didn't trust 
me, that she put all of us in danger."


"She did," Giles said truthfully.


"She's in danger, Giles," Buffy looked at him, looking lost as she whispered, 
"I'm scared."
