The only problem with that theory is the following statement by Marti; "And
you won't believe who it is."

If it's a whole new character, then why wouldn't we believe it? The only way
we'd be truly surprised by the direction of Willow's love life in the future
is if she falls for an established character.

Like someone who is an established friend.

The way I see it(you're right, Dan, speculation is fun!), the friendship has
been tested by events this season. And while I wish that they'd handled the
writing better(maybe spread it out better over the eps between Wrecked and As
You Were), or have Buffy more actively involved in the finale(outside of the
'show you the world' moment), I don't see all the gloom and doom you've been
claiming about how it's all over between Buffy and Willow.

Willow being tested, the way Buffy was earlier this year. Tempered, if you
will, like steel in a forge. It's a painful process, but if she perseveres,
she will emerge from the fire finer and stronger for the experience. Perhaps
if Dawn's Key-related powers kick in, Willow can be the mentor to Dawn that
she didn't have herself, thereby keeping Dawn from making the mistakes she
made.

This season closed a chapter on Willow's life. That doesn't mean that the
rest of the book's gonna suck. I for one look forward to seeing how it turns
out.
