Re: FIC: The Spaces Inbetween (4/?) NC-17
Red Willow,
It's not that I don't like Tara...well, okay, so I **don't** like Tara,
but I can enjoy a good B/W/T like Bear's, anytime.
Heck, I can even enjoy a B/T, if they follow my Willow/Angel rule: that
Buffy (or in this case Willow) has to be insanely happy with someone
else and still a good friend (or dead and mourned by W/A), since the one
thing Willow/Angel (or Buffy/Tara) have the most in common is their
mutual love for the "missing part". I do really hate the "oh, Buffy's
such a jerk, I'm so over her" school of W/A fics, and ditto for
"Willow's a drip, let's dump her" B/Ts.
But I'm not getting any love for Tara here. It was bad enough last
chapter when she was hitting on her ex's best friend/housemate (while
the ex is at home, no less!), but now we find out that she was thinking
about Buffy while she was involved with Willow. Slut! She's living in
a house she never would have even been invited to if not for Willow, and
she's lusting after Buffy while still "caring" (oh, that's *real* big of
you, slut) for Willow. Yeeccch.
Oh, and you've got your continuity all wrong, too, Tara-slut. Buffy's
minor freakout at the news that Willow had such poor taste in
girlfriends had nothing to do with Spike; the outing was in "New Moon
Rising" and Spike didn't start trying to stir up dissatisfaction until
"The Yoko Factor". Now I grant you that Tara didn't see Buffy after
Willow broke the news until "TYF", but since she obviously paid
attention to Willow when Will told her about Buffy's reaction, she might
bother to remember when it was.
Oh, and when Spike was stirring up shit, he never said anything to
**Buffy**. Those daggers that Buffy stares at you in "The Yoko Factor",
Tara? That's just pure honest hatred, with no input from Spike
whatsoever.
I also couldn't help but notice that Tara seems too dense to consider
that if Buffy was ever going to do anything with a girl, Willow would be
the obvious candidate. I guess Tara doesn't bother to think about Buffy
as a person, just a chest to watch rise and fall. (Buffy has a chest?
What, has Tara been watching Season 2 DVDs or something? I used to like
Buffy's chest before SMG starved it off of her. *sigh*)
Oh and I'm not giving Big T any points for vetoing the love spell. It's
nice that Tara drops Willow like a rock for doing too much selfish
magic, yet still hangs out with these creeps who think nothing of doing
love spells (you know, that thing that Willow never did on Tara or Oz,
despite having painful first-hand knowledge of how well they work).
Hypocrisy, thy name is Tara-slut!
So, no, I vote no Buffy-shagging for the Big Ol' Slut in this one. (Not
that I get a vote, of course, nor should I.) This despite the fact that
I actually enjoy seeing non-Willow females seduce Buffy. But in this
fic, I think Buffy would be better off with Spike than Tara. Heck, at
least he was more honest with Harmony (in a less-committed relationship
than W/T) about his lust for Buffy. And it's not like **he** used to
date Willow, after all. Oh, and he actually tells Buffy what he's
about, rather than using poor Willow as a sleazy cover for come-ons.
So how about some Buffy/Willow goodness, while Spike teaches Tara how to
have some class? (No, I can't believe I'm typing these sentences,
either.) Or maybe Warren can give that Cerebral Dampener another try?
I'll nominate skank-ho Tara for a round of "yes, Master" right about
now.
Mind you, I'm still enjoying this and it's quite well-written; I'm just
not feeling the Tara-love, at all. (Actually, I don't even know if I'm
supposed to; if you are trying to piss me off at her, nice job!)
Keep it coming,
Dan
