Re: Re: Buffy Spoiler (Amber Benson)
just
to
add
my
two
cents
now
that
I
don't
watch the show any more and can therefore read spoilers (if you don't
actually see the ep, you're not spoiled for it, right?)
Joss announced the return of Clare Kramer (Glory) at the press party to
kick off filming, so yes, this "shapeshifter" theory would be a way to
unify all the guest-star teases. Keep in mind that these things do tend
to break in different ways, due to actor availability and so on.
For example, last August, David Greenwalt was giving interviews to
Cinescape wherein he promised the return of Lindsey, Kate (this was
scheduled, but "Law & Order" refused to give Elisabeth Rohm time off to
do the eps), and Faith. Zip for three, obviously. And Mercedes McNab
was saying that ME had been in touch with her agents, so she figured
she'd be playing Harmony on one show or the other. Nuh-uh.
Also, well into October, Marti Noxon was bewailing the fact that she
desperately wanted Marc Blucas to come back for an ep but she couldn't
get him. Gee, to think that we might have had to live without "As You
Were"...
So far, the only actor confirmation I've heard is that Mark Metcalf said
on his radio show that he'd be doing an ep and they had him optioned for
another (presumably as The Master). Nothing about George Hertzberg
(Adam) to my knowledge, and of course Boreanaz is barred from crossover
duty.
Also Robia LaMorte has been spotted around the ME offices, but then
again she was up for a role on "Firefly", so this could be about
something entirely different.
All in all, the eye candy won't matter if the story isn't any good. The
stuff I've heard for the majority of the season (Dawn, Dawn, Dawn, Dawn,
Dawn, and Dawn--with sidekicks yet!; SouledSpike trying to woo Buffy
back) basically makes me ill and there's no reason to believe that ME
has any better grasp of story mechanics than they did last year, so we
can expect lots of slow, stupid, soapy stuff, albeit wrapped in a
shinier package. (I figure Buffy doesn't find out that Spike has a soul
for about 10 episodes, and then it's played as the climax of an ep, even
though we already knew about it, and what we want to see is what happens
next. "Already I'm bored." [Me too, Balthazar, me too.])
And yes, Jude, some incurable optimists (hi, Cas! hi, Kirayoshi!)
persist in dreaming that "you'll never believe [who Willow's new love
is] " means Buffy. Not a chance, I'm betting. I've put together
"Willow is still gay" (David Fury) with "Willow will have a new romance
coming on later in the season" and "Xander and Anya will resolve their
differences, one way or another, by the end of November" (Marti) and I'm
getting Willow/Anya. If both characters hadn't been utterly destroyed
and if there was a chance they'd get more than five minutes of airtime
per ep, I'd be willing to think that Aly and Emma might be able to sell
it....
(Oh, and Marti, Xander and Anya are already finished; thanks for
stalling for half the [final?] season to clean up a plot that is dead in
the water and damn near no one cares about anyway. Nice to know you
haven't lost that soap opera touch after all.)
Still bitter,
Dan
