Wow, Dan, major bitterness going on. Ouch, that's scorching.
Problem is, I can't really discredit or fault any of your comments.
The feelings of betrayal that ME quickly and efficently created this
season run deep and true and even though I'm fairly new to the show
and the online Buffy community I still feel like someone sucker
punched me MANY times but I was just too blinded by false faith to
believe that another punch wasn't going to come... but it did... and
that was when they shot Tara. There's no question that Joss has
amazing talents for writing and planning out arches for his plots and
has great skills at making loveable characters (even his evil
characters are loved to some degree). The problem was, he got too
big of a head and too busy at the same time and handed the show over
to Marti who wanted to follow in his footsteps. She just didn't have
the skill Joss did and played up too much too soon and by the end it
was way too late. She brought the characters into a whole different
world and was unable to redeem them in the end.
ME easily crossed over into every dynamic of their fan base to piss
people off. They alienated the X/A, B/S, W/T 'shippers while also
flipping off the fans of each specific character when they made them
do things completely "out of character" and then, on top of it all,
he crossed over fandoms and went after the Dark Angel fans by getting
that show canceled too. David Fury and the others seem to believe
that the shows are so big right now that even when fans leave the
show it won't hurt the shows themselves. Problem with that is, it
may not hurt Buffy or Angel, but let's see just how popular "Firefly"
and the others become without the fans he's come to rely on to line
his pocket with riches.
My conflict, however, lies in though I'm really upset with how Joss,
Marti, and the writers handled this season, I still greatly admire
the awesome job all the actors did this season. They were handed
thousands of pages of crap and still managed to pump out stellar
performances, even if it wasn't how we really wanted to see the
characters behave. Because I appreciate their work and the insane
amount of time and effort they put into the show and not to mention
my own extra appreciation for Aly and Amber, I think I will continue
to tune in for the next season, especially if Amber will return in
any capacity.
If anything, fans should continue to support their favorite actors or
the group in general but boycot any further ME based productions,
such as Firefly, if they want to. That's likely what I'll do,
personally. I just hope that after her long awaited vacation and
rest, Amber will soon be seen again in television and movies.
That's my two cents :-) (Okay, so it was more like a dollar's worth,
but who's counting lol)
